Emil is now Lead Designer?

Oh. Oh. Now I'm getting the idea of how Fallout 4 will be.

Mind you Fallout 1 is sort of like that. The Master's plan is insane, and pretty rubbish. The difference is of course, you can convince him his plan is insane and rubbish with reason and evidence.

War. War never changes. Except when Bethesda makes these games.

Starring: Liam Neeson being ashamed of you because you nuked a town but forgetting it two seconds after, Power Armor shooting dudes, metro firefights, random supermutants.

And BEEEWWWBBSS- oh wait that's a different thing.

Also, more celebrities providing 5 lines and taking two thirds of the VA budget leaving the rest of the NPCs to be voiced by 3 people.

I predict Peter Dinklage and Tom Cruise.

Hopefully there is no quest design as lazy as the Wasteland Survival Guide.

Has seen previous work, we have. Skeptical whether that is to significantly impact this next one, are we.

I don't know what to make of this yet, if he was the one that wrote most of what was Fallout 3 then good because we most definitely need someone better. But at the same time, how much of an influence does the lead designer have of the writing itself?

It depends. Take Mass Effect 3. Casey Hudson was the lead designer, and also an over-bearing ego maniac who controlled much of the writing direction together with his best friend and crony that he installed as lead writer.

The other writers were basically left out of the loop and their contributions ignored, left out or contradicted. Resulting in the appalling mess we got a few years back.

Didn't mean he has a direct hand in every single quest, but rather as lead writer, I would assume he has the power to yes and no all potential plots. As such, he shares responsibility for if a writer on his team creates a dud and he just OK's it.

That would add more cause and effect which is good and it would add a choice that actually matters and that is a good thing I think.

I'm pretty sure location/level/world design is separate from what he does

Wow why does everyone jump to conclusions so quickly. Relax.

You all sound crazy" emil wrote a bad story for Fallout 3 and now he is designing fallout 4 so its going to be bad, emil's name starts with an e which is the 5th letter of the alphabet so that means the game will release on the 5th day on the 5th month at 5pm for $50, also if you rearrange the letters in his name it spells mile! Which means the the Map size with be a mile long and a mile wide, half life 3 confirmed.

This might be the most ridiculous strawman I've ever seen.

Have you tried bothering to read? Emil has been writing things since Oblivion, and had a big hand in both Fallout 3 and Skyrim's writing. None of it has been impressive, and writing is a huge blemish for Bethesda, so obviously we'd like to see the guy moved elsewhere. And yes, it's 100% reasonable to expect poor writing in FO4 if he's still at the helm.

Lead Designer is not technically a writer. The designer simply makes decisions on the games design and mechanics. It has little to do with the story. He does have final say on the story however. But honestly, Fallout 3's writing wasn't bad. Try not to jump to conclusions yet, guys. He might actually do wonders as a designer rather than a writer.

Thing is, he was both lead designer and lead writer in Fallout 3. Will retain those roles is the big question. Since the writing in Fallout 3 was very subpar and below.

Who in this thread is saying he'd be an awful designer? Plenty of us are saying he's given us no reason to believe he's an awful designer.

Also, Fallout 3 had a 200 year old community composed solely of children. Your argument that the writing was ok is invalid.

To be fair, the children were clearly Kryptonian.

Yeah one of them even had a sick Wazer Wifle. Clearly not earthling technology.

Not to mention, still not the weirdest writing in Fallout. Colony of talking Deathclaws from Fallout 2, anyone? :P
