Emotional Moments from Skyrim

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 2:49 pm

Warning: Side quest spoilers.

My most emotional moment was finding and doing the Frostflow Lighthouse random quest. It's a lighthouse on the northern coast, west of Winterhold. You go in and find a gruesome murder scene of an older Redguard woman apparently killed by a Chaurus. Looking around, I found the journals of all the family members (father, wife, and two daughters) and apparently they were all murdered...quest was to find the source of the murders. Turned out their basemant had a hidden tunnel to a Falmer clan who apparently used half of one daughter's body for noms, and the father was apparently eaten by the lead Chaurus when he went to investigate. It was just very sad because you got to read these poor people's journals and see how they had family issues anyway before apparently being brutally slaughtered by the Falmer and Chaurus.

Makes me hate those *%*$ Falmer even more...grrr.

I was doing the final part of the whiterun Kynareth tree side quest. I decided to take Jondelle with me, thinking he would be a normal NPC that i could talk to. The moment i realized that i couldn't interact with him, i knew he was going to have a messy end. When we got to (The Twins) east of Whiterun, i hoped i would be able to clear it of the bandits camped there before chucklehead did something stupid. I didn't. I cut down two bandits before Jondelle ran screaming into the first keep, fists a swinging. On one hand i admired his tenacity, on the other, i was too damn busy cleaning up the bandits he ran pass. Apparently he had it in his mind to make the archer camped on the rocks on the other side of the river pay for being so far away. By the time i kicked the Bandit chief's corpse off the bridge and made my way over to deal with the lone sniper, Jonelle was riddled with orc arrows at the feet of the Bosmer bandit. I am happy i got a finishing move cut scene when i dispatched that guy. That was a satisfactory end to a nearly botched quest attempt.

Doing the companion quests made me rather fond of Skjor. So, When I found him dead at the end of the SIlver Hand quest I was quite upset.

TOTAL HORROR
I was clearing out a place full of rogue wizards. Down in the lower levels, behind a locked door was a ramp leading down. I followed the ramp down a corridor that ended in a large cell with a door you can't open. Inside the cell were a collection of burned corpses laying in still glowing ash. It was obvious they had been roasted to death.

To find it....
Spoiler
Do the "Night to Remember" quest. You start it when a guy in a bar challenges you to a drinking contest. If you follow the objectives after that you'll eventually get to a fort for mages. Within this fort is a locked door. Behind the locked door is a named wizard "___ the Wicked" or something like that. Behind that named wizard is the cell in question.

The first emotional moment for me was actually from reading a book. I was wandering around High Hrothgar and started reading some of the books when I got to some about the rise of the Thalmer/Aldmer dominion and about the war between the Aldmer dominion and the empire. It was just background history but it made me realise just how much crap the world of Tamriel has been through in the past two hundred years. It really got to me.

I felt incredibly tainted after an early DB quest. I had completed the intial kill no problem but the client wanted an extra kill for her fee, A woman who was once her friend..
I tracked down the target in her home town and followed to the market place. Her parents turned up and even spoke to me about how sad they had lost a son recently. I felt bad at this point but reasoned that a DB assassin will always carry out the contract..i followed the young lady away from her parents and the market, waiting untill she walked through a narrow alleyway, then i swiftly struck with my dagger, watching in horror as my assassin slit her throat from behind. It was quite gruesome. I returned to the client for my fee. A good while later i visited that town and heard a local remark how the family had also lost their daughter and were devastated..

I felt very sad for them

i did that too, turns out the mother commits suicide because of the loss of her children, and her husband is just sitting silently by the fire repeating that he wont know what he'll do, first his children, then his wife

The quest you can get to kill the dark brotherhood. Definitely felt like I made up for some misdeeds there. Made me proud (despite it being a game).

I had been heading towards Northwatch Camp with my friend-in-arms and companion, Uthgerd the Nord, when I saw a dog running ahead of me. Readying my sword for battle, I waited for its attack but instead it just ran off. I followed it through the trees to a little hut, where a Nord lay dead in his bed, killed by Rockjoint, by the look if it. I reassured the poor mutt, Meeko he was called apparently, but I had to leave him as I couldn't possibly bring him and Uthgerd with me to Northwatch Camp.

"I'll come back for you one day, little dog. Make you a home with me, I will." As it was getting late, I told Uthgert to wait outside the hut, on guard, placed my armour on the table for the morning along with the rest of mine and Uthgerds' supplies and, having moved the dead Nord's body out of the way, I decided to get some sleep.

I woke up at about 6 in the morning as planned, and who did I find awaiting me? Some hired thugs; "It's time to teach you a lesson, Nord", they said. Unarmed and unarmoured, I panicked. But not Meeko, he did what I could not and leapt into battle. He took one of them down but not before he was slain. I cried a mighty Nord Battlecry and they must have felt my anger for they ran. I grabbed my sword from the table and as I left the hut, Uthgerd came running to me. Ignoring her a charged the one and cut him down. I sliced into him, ripping him to pieces for his horrible actions against myself and that poor, innocent dog. Uthgerd took down the other. So much for a companion, if it wasn't for Meeko I would have been dead.

I found the Hired Thug Chief and on his body found a contract. The head of the Battle-Born in Whiterun had paid for my execution after I killed his son, Idolaf. He will pay for what he has done. I killed Idolaf because he wouldn't tell me information I needed but now, now the whole Battle-Born family will pay with their lives for what they have done! I was so upset about poor Meeko. I carried his body down to the river and watched him be carried away and over a waterfall by the current - I was so moved, so upset by that dog, who didn't even know me; so happy and hopeful about me being his new owner, who lay down his poor life for me.

The slaughter I commited at Northwatch Camp helped me relieve some of my anger somewhat and I am now at Solitude, having just been released from prison after I saved the man who was about to be executed, (he got himself killed anyway, ungrateful punk). But I am returning to Whiterun, and when I arrive there the Battle-Born better hope that they have hired some guards for their home because I will strike with hate and vengeance and I will wipe their family off the very face of Nirn, even if it means dying myself because that dog died with honour; more honour than most men I have battled and his death will NOT be in vain.

So may the divines help you, Battle-Borns because I. Am. Coming.

...sorry about that rant. I get ever so in character and Ormvard Grey-Smith the Nord is a man of strong emotions. He appreciates honour and valiance above all else. He is looking forward to seeing Meeko in Sovengard, if that is what will happen when he takes the Battle to the Battle-Borns. I think he will survive, but who knows?

My saddest moment: watching a mammoth fall from the sky to its death.
My happiest moment: finally figuring out how to use whirlwind dash to cross the broken walkway between the pillars to get to the secret room.
My angriest moment: discovering that the chest in the secret room had like 14 gold and a potion of minor healing.
My most curious moment: 3 stormcloak soldiers are walking down a road. When I approach them, they take defensive positions and warn me away, "This does not concern you." I back off, then follow them for a good 20 minutes, but they go no where, and do nothing.
My most difficult moment: discover some burly dragon at the same time some mega liche attacks me (immune to all spells and poisons), and at the same time I get some memory leak because my FPS is dropping to like 10, so I'm missing every arrow possible. Took about 30 minutes to kill both the dragon and the liche thing.
My most disappointing moment: completing the entire companion questline in order to get that huntress as my follower, just to find out she has only 1 equipment slot.
My most disturbing moment: going to an abandoned house and listening to an evil spirit that, by the end of the quest, had me beating an old man with a rusty mace. Seriously now.

One of the most emotional moments so far was one of the Mara quests, where you reunite the ghosts of a married couple. The music really enhanced the end of the quest too; Soule composed a great score for "Skyrim".

Ok, this is my recent emotional moment...

After clearing a fort and taking a moment to settle back down to move on.... a dragon spotted us. i didn't even know he was circling over our heads! My character was only level 9 i think. i was forced to fight this dragon, and i died several times. i did not want to reload a later save-date because i would loose so much ground, so i just pressed forward and tried my best at killing this dragon. i still kept on dying! i tried all of my potions and poisons and magic and weapons and nothing was working. i was feeling sad...

FINALLY, during one of the fights Lydia ran down a hill into a medium sized pool of water and the dragon followed her. As i watched from the hill, a giant was standing near the pool of water and must have felt threatened, because the giant started attacking the dragon!! After three good blows from the giant the dragon died... and peacefully the giant stood by while i looted the dragon and moved on. if i could, i would have hugged the ankle of that big giant-like oaf !! <3

This is why TES games need co-op. They could enjoy some Nord Ale, a good bard's tale and have a proper Nord fistfight! ;)

I'll paint a picture for you:

It was around mid-day and I was in Riverwood, trying to buy some ingots to forge some new armour for myself (as my current armour wasn't up to par), it was all well and quiet and I was in search for Alvor (for the afforementioned ingots) but unfortunately I couldn't find him. So, I decided to wait a few hours as it may have been his lunch break, so I waited and then when I returned to the game-play I was met with evening.

But I was also met with the roars of a Blood Dragon up above us, at the time it wasn't attacking, just circling, so I got my bow and arrows ready and waited for it to get a bit lower down so I could hit it; Alvor rushed outside. ( I then also facepalmed as to why I didn't check his house, as he was with his daughter and wife.) Any-who, the guards, a few villagers and myself began firing arrows at the dragon as it began to get closer to us. It's health was gradually dropping, albeit not by much. But then it decided it would sit on the roof of a house, a house Alvor was situated under.

Alvor was armed with a battle-axe and standing next to his wife and child.

The dragon began spraying me with it's frosty breath as I kept firing arrows at it, but it was only now that I realised Alvor had gone out into the open with his wife to try and get a better look at the enemy, which is when the dragon saw him.

Unfortunately the dragon saw the opportunity to take out two people at once (Alvor and his wife) and so launched them from the center of town to the borders of it with a blast of it's breath and although I looked over to see if he would get back up, he didn't.

In the end though, after the deaths of 3 guards, Alvor and his wife and possibly 3 - 4 other villagers, the dragon was slain. Now the town is inhabited by orphaned children, an old woman and a drunk, plus the inn owners.

And of-course I felt bad after seeing Alvor protect his family...and partly fail (Well, he did save his daughter), I made sure to visit the town every once in a while (even though they've lost nearly all their business owners other than the inn and the mill, although the mill has no workers) and make sure the houses and villagers are ok.

So yeah, that's my most emotional Skyrim moment.

I love the idea of Co-op but the fact is their games are so massive I think trying to balance a co-op game would be too time consuming.

As for an emotional moment, was satisfaction when I sliced of a named necromancer/conjurers head when I saw him blazing fire into a cell with 4 burned bodies while laughing

IMO there was no emorional moment as the game's depth was no where near as deep as Oblivion's, or Morrowind. The Quests were to shallow. Perhaps the only emotional or wow moment is seeing the Aurolia(Northern lights)

I decided that the fastest way to get a house was to find myself a rich man to marry. I checked my potential spouse list and thought I'd give Marcurio in Riften a try.

*Note: there are spoilers below so stop reading if you don't want to know more*

.
.
.

So I married him. He seemed really sweet and eternally devoted to me. After the ceremony, he vanished from the chapel. I figured he might be where I originally found him: in the bar. He's a hireling and that's where he hangs out looking for work. He was again very sweet and we agreed to live at his place (since I don't have one). He said he'd meet me there. I go outside and realize the pointer for his house IS THE BAR! He lives at the inn, apparently. That's not QUITE what I was looking for.

I reloaded back to before I married Marcurio.

I checked my potential mate list again, compared it to the particular terraine I am looking for and set out across the entire continent to see Ainethach in Karthwasten. Took me forever to get there. But I figured a mine owner should be rich, right? The terraine wasn't really all I had hoped for. Mostly rocky and desolate. And Ainethach was kinda ugly. Not handsome like Marcurio. And the quest to catch Ainethach's eye was more than I was willing (or capable) of doing.

So I reload back to Riften. What do do....

I noticed there is a blacksmith in Riften named Bolimund. He's a little rough around the edges but not bad looking. Strong guy who probably makes a descent living. He must surely have a house at least! He sends me off to find 10 frost salts. The local apothocary didn't have any so I figured I might was well go finish a quest or two up north and perhaps find a larger place with a good apothocary to pick up those frost salts. Then it occured to me: Marcurio is a hireling. Why not take him along? So I hired him and we've set off on a journey north to return a helm to someone.

We've been traveling for a couple of days and every time we stop for a moment, he is extremely flattering saying he just can't believe I'm still single. I've learned he is a lethal mage and usually kills whatever it is before I even know I'm being attacked. I'm curious how he will do in a fight with a dragon (I've only fought one and successfully avoided two more).

The first evening of our journey, we saw what I can only describe as northern lights. It was A-mazing. I took some pictures in case it's a rare occurance. Marcurio was stunned into silence as we watch the evening turn to dark.

Our journey continues. I suspect I will stick with my current plan of marrying Bolimund. But I might just keep Marcurio around for company on those long journeys.
