Empire supporters, what do you think of Tullius?

Post » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:24 am

Personally, I have mixed feelings. Sometimes I think his behavior has more to do with being this typical duty obsessed military leader, and sometimes I think he's a plain D.

Maybe if Rikke were in charge the Legion would have greater appeal. Not that it doesn't have any, because the polls say otherwise.

General Tullius is voiced by an awesome-sounding voice actor. Nuff said.

I like him. He can be abraisive at times, but he plays a tired military man well. I feel accomplished when i earn his respect. He's a good man.

Plus i hear he has a famous actor for his voice, yeah?

I like Tullius, he is a great leader and realizes that Skyrim being independent from the empire hurts bothj sides

I would side with a veteran, seasoned Military leader, who realizes both the Empire and Skyrim are stronger together then apart. over a ticked off noble who killed his king in cold blood, and causing a rebellion that is weakening both the Empire and Skyrim for when the next great war breaks out.

Tullius is a fair, honorable General.
Ulfric is just an angry Noble, who when his "higher ups" made a decision he didn't agree with decided to launch a rebellion not caring how it not only affected Skyrim, but weakens both Skyrim and the Empire for when the next Great War with the Thalmor breaks out.

General Tullius is an awesome character. Like the tired soldier personality thing going on as well. :)

And that voice... He's the one character I'll stop to listen to because his voice gathers an aura of respect and intimidation. :)

He's a good general, albeit not a great diplomat. Fortunately, he doesn't need to be - he's there to command legions, not butter up Jarls.

I have a great deal of respect for General Tullius. He's an experienced general who's seen it all before, but gains a genuine interest in the wellbeing of Skyrim by the end of his campaign.

I'm obviously not an Empire supporter, so I won't argue the points stated as to what you guys think of him, but I will point out something that I feel those who do like him seem to overlook:

http://cs.uesp.net/index.php?game=sr&formid=0x000c347c

The Legion's always been here. Without us to keep order, the provinces would fall into barbarism and lawlessness. Especially Skyrim.

-General Tullius

Which to me sounds a lot like http://www.thefreedictionary.com/white+man%27s+burden, just replace "white" with Imperial. It's just a reflection of the Empire's attitude in general, which is they need to give others their culture and laws or ^. Which colors my opinion of him greatly. When I was an Empire supporter a long time ago, I found him to be bland and boring, but I liked the voice actor.

Well, it's kind of true. Murdering a High King is quite lawless and barbaric ;)

Michael Hogan also voiced Doc Mitchell in FO:NV, right?

It's funny how both the Doc and Tullius look like Michael Hogan. :P Am I the only one that has noticed this?

What's there to overlook? I see no awestriking revelation. I've never really thought about that quote. inb4Hevnoraak

As for the White Man's Burden, you can look at it that way i suppose. But colonialism =/= Imperialism. Tullius is not Colombus or King George.

lets not do this again ok guis

It was a duel, though. It may have gone against imperial laws, but it was ok in Skyrim's. The king accepted the duel. And duels aren't exactly barbaric. So it was sub-lawless, and not barbaric at all. And not murder, no matter how you look at it.

But this is about Tullius, so if you want to continue this, we should make a new thread.

The point is it is a kind of racism, which is what I think people are overlooking. It may not be colonialism, but they in these cases both lead to it.

I am personally not an Empire Supporter. I have a character that is siding with them just so *I* can see the different outcome. My view of him is he is a complete jerk and has no respect for a culture that isn't his own. Yes his voice actor is pretty darned good but that doesn't negate the fact the character is a moron.

Not really, they're xenophobic and nationalistic mostly. They have their racists, sure, and nationalism and xenophobia aren't really positive things, but they're no more racist then imperials are. I'd say imperials are moreso, but it's disguised under the fact that they're more diverse, which if real life is any indication, melting pots tend to be more racist than anywhere else for obvious reasons. Not to mention they got this way through force, not being nice. Nords are distrusting of outsiders in general. Even as a nord, windhelm guards question if you are a spy. That's their thing. And imps think its their duty to spread their culture to the other races and cultures of Tamriel. That's their thing. So to me, and as someone who is multiracial and has felt real racism from both sides of my people, I feel that the Imperials are more racist. But both nords and imperials have their negative points.

What makes you feel that way? I wouldn't go so far as to call Tullius a racist. He's got Nords in the Legion, and Rikke is his right hand (wo)man. Sounds like he's addressing the Stormcloaks, more specifically, rather than generalizing Nords.

I know what I'd put money on, after seeing plenty of past Civil War threads.

*cough* yes. Tullius. In his words "... long live the Emperor! Long live the Empire!"

plus, we see one of the Imperial Camps is run by an Altmer..

I can't seem to think of any Stormcloak Officers that are not Nords.

America had blacks in their military when racism was more rampant as well. I don't think he hates nords. That is prejudice, not racism. I think that he simply believes that the other people of tamriel are incapable of functioning without them. Which isn't his fault, as that is what Empires do. "Brainwash" through propaganda. It's racism born from how imperialism works, as it establishes a primary culture over those the ruling culture rules over. And the primary culture gets a sense of superiority.

That's because they're pro nord, not anti everyone else.

Maybe you're right. I don't think I wanted to start a debate, though the post you quoted might've sounded like I did. I svck at debating. :P

I think the Imperials just wanted to make everyome else as diverse as they are so that there would be less racism in the Empire, but enforcing their culture onto others is not the way to go about it.

I'd also say that the Empire was in rule for as long as it was because of the Imperial's natural gift of speech, but then again, Talos was from Skyrim, and he conquered all Tamriel by being a military genius.

Right and the stormcloak's are a bastion of tolerance and cultural sensitivity what with their whole "Skyrim is for the Nords" thing. Sarcasm aside at the end of the civil war if you side with the imperials Tullius makes some comments (to Rikke i believe) that he has come to respect Nordic culture.

I like his character.

My first character in Skyrim was a Dunmer. Needless to say I ended up hating Nords during that game.
