Enchanted Item Recharge

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:49 am

With all the changes taking place in the game systems for Skyrim, I'm curious if they will change the way recharging enchanted items work. Personally, I couldn't stand looking for Welkynd Stones or visiting a vendor to recharge them. Would it not make sense to have an enchantment regen, that varies based on your skill in the associated school of magic? What are your thoughts?

Or you could do it the old-fashioned way and use trapped souls to recharge equipment. After all, Enchant is now back among the schools of magic.

I do like your idea of a constant recharging of enchanted equipment based on your character's skills (Enchant seems the obvious choice here). It would have to be quite slow though, even for a skilled enchanter, else I feel it would be over-powered.

Welkynd stones don't recharge items, they recharge your magicka. In Oblivion, you could recharge your items with vendors, soulgems, and varla stones. I personally like this method. I have a feeling that an enchantment regen would be kinda cheap, since you would not have to work at all for it. Although I liked the sword, I thought that Dawn/Duskfang was pretty cheap in Oblivion because it basically had infinite charge.

I disagree. That'd cheapen things too much, at higher levels you'd pretty much be on god mode.

Or it could be used for very weak enchantments.

mostly I just want the effect for the looks mainly. I don't care to much about damage wether its +1 or +25.

Be nice to have 2 types.

Regenerating charge for weak enchanted swords. (like FONV recharger, weak gun but could use after a bit of time)
Also you can only have one enchantment for this weapon. No fusing of two types.

And then more powerful enchantments that can only be refilled by the soul gem method.

Or even have recharge as a spell effect or spell variant. When enchanting there could be the option of adding fire damage, as an example, or adding fire damage with recharge. Because the recharge effect would cost more and use up more space on an enchanted item, it would lessen the effect for fire damage or whatever other enchantment you would add. This would be a great option for warrior or stealth classes unable to recharge their own equipment, while still benefiting mages for specializing in magic and taking the time to trap souls.

Which is why it would have to be quite slow, even for someone very skilled. In the end, traditional methods of recharging would likely still be more effective though. Eh, worth a thought at least.

I think they should just go and remove it. At best, it's a gold sink. Right now it's just annoying. I don't have to stop and recharge my boots, so why do I have to do it with my sword. If you insist on having something, I recommend it taking a chunk of your mana with each swing.

That's like comparing apples and oranges. Your boots have a passive enchantment on them, meaning that they don't have to be activated to enjoy their effects, while your sword needs to be swung.

Then let my sword be passively covered in fire. ;) I can't think of any other game that makes me recharge my swords. I suspect that that it was grandfathered into oblivion, but it dosen't have to stay.

Kind of off topic but I think there should be an enchanting option of "chance on strike," meaning that based on luck, weapon skill, enchant skill, etc., there is a chance on each hit for the enchantment to be activated, but it won't drain any charge. The enchantment put on it would still be restricted by a maximum charge, but a "chance on strike" enchantment would not ever have to be recharged.

Anyway back on topic I would like the morrowind system where enchanted items are constantly recharging. It would be cool if you could put a really strong soul trap effect on a weapon that made it siphon souls directly into the weapon. I feel like this would fit really well with Umbra.
