Enchanted items glow effect

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 12:07 am

We have gathered a lot of info about Skyrim, but yet we have not seen even one enchanted item, armor or weapon, in any of the screenshots.
Most probably enchanted weapons will have a more animated effect like actual fire/snowflakes/lightning coming from the blade. I am NOT asking about that!
What is your opinion about the glowing/shining effect of enchanted items? You know that colored coating you get on an enchanted item that is best visible in the dark.

I for one like best Morrowinds type of enhancement coating glow. I think it would look cool if I had a ice enhanced sword with snowflekes or steam coming out of it and in addition to that a nice shiny light blue coating
Maybe the enhancement glow coating on armor shouldn't be that noticeable though.
A nice pulsing effect wouldn't hurt either.

The first mod I install in Oblivion is a leveling mod. The second is a mod that removes the enchanted item glow.

No glow. Elemental effects would be okay for weapons, but I prefer they only show up when I'm actually swinging the weapon as a sort of trail effect.

I think it's fine if magical weapons glow. The enchanted graphical glow effect your character had when he had equipped a magical armor was horrible in Oblivion. I still remember how in the dark my "stealthy" character had a pink glow on him. So I installed a mod to remove the effect.

Yeah, no glow. Let the material be humble and know that it's enchantments are more than adequate. Why's it have to be visibly reaffirmed, are you going to forget it's special?

I would like to see fire pulsating around a blade. Perhaps we could only see it when the blade is actually swung in combat.

I'd like to see elemental effects for Destruction-enchanted weapons, and some sort of magical effect for other schools of magic. Illusion could be a pale green vapor around the blade, and Alteration could be pulsating field lines around the blade. These effects should go away when the weapon is sheathed, since running around with a flaming sword strapped to your back looks [censored].

I agree. At least I don't like a stealthy character to carry a weapon that shines like a Christmas tree when he is not using it. So the magical effect should only start showing when the weapon is swinged.

I'd like enchantment glow to vary in intensity and style based on the strenght of the enchantment.

So A shock dagger would occasionally crackle and spark where as an intensive enchantment would flare with electric arcs

a Fire blade would simply be red hot or white at its surface or a light shimmer of flame, and a powerful enchantment would blaze and caste light.

this would allow me to gauge the strenghts and types of enchanted weapons at a distance :D

Well I think:
fire swords should be on fire
electric swords should give of electricity (like little bolts moving around the blade or something)
frost swords should be frosty, and giving off steam
A soultrap sword should be glowing white maybe (or have little white orbs or something circulating the sword like the electric sword)
and absorb health should be whatever color absorb health is and do the same as soultrap

I could keep thinking of them, maybe with different things with the different weapons, but I'll spare you.

And i think that if you have more than one effect on a weapon, they should all be visible on that weapon.
