Enchanted Weapons

Honestly, it was more a nuisance than anything to have to have your enchanted weapon recharged via Varla Stone, money, etc. in Oblivion (for me).

I sort of want enchanted weapons to be like scrolls
so once you use them up, they're just regular weapons
but they generally last longer and be stronger while they're enchanted
I wonder how that would work out

oh hey Morrowind, that looks good all vote for that, because everything in Oblivion was wrong and I want Skyrim to be another Morrowind, better yet it should be a DLC, and they should call it Morroskyrim

btw I am criticizing most threads that have an option that says Morrowind on it, not particularly this one

Morrowind all the way. Having to pay coin just to use my enchanted weapons was a pain, especially since it was such an expensive service. I'd rather have enchantments that are weaker and passive over stronger and active simply because I'm always guaranteed that damage in combat.

by that argument, you are also criticizing threads with oblivion
therefore you criticize 99% of the threads on this board

Maybe a more interesting recharge system is in order? Imagine a blade that charges it's magicka in the sunlight. Or a vampiric blade that charges each time it slays someone, and grows weaker the longer it goes without.

yeh I kinda am, but you know that was sarcasm, my english teacher had us read a modest proposal, but seriously if you put Morrowind anything as an option in any thread(no matter what the topic) people will vote for it, if you look at the AI thread I did that for the specific purpose and people still voted for Morrowinds basically nonexistant AI

I digress, I would kinda like this implemented again it was a pain to recharge and the varala stones are way too rare, I usually just keep them

That could be interesting. For example Umbra would require strong souls to keep it going at its best. I would like to see enchanted weapons that are useful for specific things like a dagger meant for Vampire slaying but otherwise is a pathetic excuse for a weapon.

I think he is criticizing that anytime "Morrowind" is an option, it always wins, even if it really shouldn't have (opinion); sometimes people don't even read the polls and just choose Morrowind because its Morrowind. When was the last time you saw a "Morrowind" option not lead the polls?

Maybe combat system? The guaranteed hit system, I can live with. Graphics?

You guys are neglecting the possibility that maybe it's just widespread opinion that the mechanics found in Morrowind were that much better and or fluid than Oblivion. I vote widespread for Morrowind, not because I'm a Morrowind fanatic, but because I truly believe it had the better system. Likewise in this case. Show me a thread where you believe Oblivion SHOULD have won; whether you find one or not, that's still derived from opinion. Furthermore, you're make the assumption people are voting blindly with no evidence.

Plus, it's easier to explain which game system an individual preferred rather than explaining the separate mechanics.

Well you used souls to charge up weapons. So shouldn't it be possible to let weapons recharge by killing stuff?
It would be very slow though, but you could also use soul gems.

I voted Morrowind style, pretty much EVERYTHING wrong with Oblivion was due to it NOT being Morrowind style. Don't get me wrong, I love Oblivion, but I greatly missed what was lacking.

Agree 110%. Micromanaging weapon charges is other than fun.

Enchantments require soul power, they shouldn't recharge automatically. I'd like them to allow you to transfer souls directly into your weapon's enchantment without first putting them into soulgems. Soulgems are such a limiting and annoying factor. Also I'd like to see temporary enchantments be available, just applying damage enchantments to your weapons that are gone when they run out. And the ability to remove enchantments from items.

Hm... I am a bit unsure here...
What is the most lore-correct?

Personally having something recharge over time sounds very... Overpowered... And where does it get that new energy? The Oblivion way with recharging through putting more souls into the enchanted item/weapon as a sort of fuel is propably the most lore-correct, IMO...

The Oblivion way got my vote here.

A bit longer explanation:
The enchanted item is actually a soul, or the "fuel" or "power" of a soul, (caught in a soulgem) that has been infused into the weapon together with a magical effect. The soul powers the magical effect. However eventually this soul will run out of fuel and will need to be recharged. You do this by using ANOTHER soul that the soul in the weapon will then recharge itself with.
The soul recharging itself as time goes on doesnt feel... right...

This is one area where I prefer the Oblivion system to the Morrowind one. Enchantments typically are a big boost to your weapon's effectiveness at dealing out punishment. Therefore, you should have to work to keep the enchantments working in top notch shape. It shouldn't be an automatic. At the very least, you can have a reduction in the enchantment's effectiveness as a weapon's condition worsens, and a need for something like an enchanted "soul hammer" to repair that weapon.

I know there will be enchanted weapons, but I would prefer that skills played the biggest roll in successful combat. When your character is young and has not honed his skills yet, an enchanted weapon can be an awesome equalizer, but once you are proficient, I find that they can be over powering. I know I can just not use them though.

It would be cool if you could place a mark over a lava pit, then enchant your throwing daggers with cast on strike recall. So, someone gets hit with a knife, they get teleported to the lava. That will take care of those pesky minotaurs.

As a Morrowind fan I voted Oblivion style here, the Oblivion style made you think before using an enchanted weapon, did it sometimes annoy me to be all out of enchant points on all of my weapons? Sure, but it added to the gameplay all in all.

I forgot, didn't enchanted weapons have to be manually recharged in Morrowind, too?

In either case, manual recharging wasn't necessarily a bad idea, but it was so freaking expensive in Oblivion that you essentially had to do an entire dungeon if you wanted to recharge your weapons, and the charge was generally only good for a few fights. So, yeah, enchantment power should regenerate over time. No reason you couldn't keep recharging items to recharge faster, though.

Morrowind had the "cast when used" enchantment, so my vote goes for Morrowind.

Can someone please enlighten me? I played Morrowind, but never got far enough to have lots of magic weapons or recharge any magic items.

In oblivion, I absolutely loved the combo of Umbra + Azura Star, and when I first obtained these two items it felt like I found something very special. I prefer the Oblivion style of magic recharging from what I can tell, but perhaps this is simply because I was never able to recharge anything in Morrowind. Does it just automatically recharge over time in Morrowind? If so, the Oblivion approach would seem to result in a more balanced and fun gameplay.

I didn't even use any enchancted weapons first time I played Oblivion, because I felt so disappointed that they didn't recharge themselves :(
Now I got a mod to fix that though...

I think a good compromise though, would be to include both! Have a "recharge over time" for all enchanted items, then items that recharge enchanted items instantly and then vanish (like varla stones, but... something else for Skyrim).
