Enchanting armor and arsenal before Dawnguard Questline

Post » Mon Sep 29, 2014 3:30 pm

Just finished the companions questline and I'm about to start the Dawnguard questline. I just unlocked 100% enchantment so I'm going to revamp my gear. I'm going to join the Dawnguard side and was just curious on what you all would recommend on what enchantments to use for all my equipment/weapons. My guy is insane with a bow, but I'm transitioning to two handed pretty well right now and will soon start working with magic (plan on going college of winterhold after this.) So I'll probably be running and two handed and a crossbow. I'm not sure what to expect though so without spoiling anything what would be a good set up as far as my new enchanted gear and possibly what gear to use? On a side note I'm a light armor character and haven't really touched Heavy armor, but was thinking about switching to heavy armor to build it up some. Not sure if it would be a good idea or not. I'm also level 37 or 38 and playing on 360. Thanks in advance guys, can't wait to hear your alls opinions.

I wouldn't bother switching armor types. You might want some magic resist or enchantments to reduce the cost of restoration if you want to try out some of the spells against the undead.you could put a turn undead enchant on your weapons too. A good combo for fighting undead is fire damage plus turn undead on a bow.

I just started a dawnguard character who is a basic warrior, but heavily perks restoration and some enchanting.

Thanks for the help man I appreciate it. The main reason I asked was cause I'm not real knowledgeable with the magic aspect of the game, so I'll definitely give those a shot.

Without messing too much with destruction you could possibly only increase it via training. Undead are weak against fire, so increasing Destruction and putting points into Augmented Flames will make your fire enchantments stronger and weapon will have more charge. As J'Roqqa said, turn undead is another great effect, given that you won't extensively use two-handed; effect will do you no good if everyone is running away from you while you're trying to hit them from up close. So use it either for sniping away, or if too much enemies storm you and you need to take some away to pick them one by one.

Depending on the difficulty you play on, switching armor types at level 37 might be a bad idea as you'll fall back in how much damage you can take, but since you have access to heavy armor training right at the start of the questline you could turn that to your favour very quickly as well. Maybe put some armor pieces on the side, possibly collect a whole set, train it some and when you try it out and see that your armor rating is similar as with skilled light armor on then switch it. Dawnguard heavy armor is an option as it reduces the damage from vampires, but for general use it's dwemer quality so I suppose you could go a lot higher than that.

For two handed definitely use Dawnguard two handed hammer. It's available right at the start, and does extra damage to vampires. I don't know how much it adds, but since silver weapon gets enough to become 2nd best weapon, after daedric, for general undead-killing, I imagine dawnguard named weapons shouldn't fall far behind.

I think dawnguard heavy armor is the best looking in the game.
