Enchanting ingredients...

Post » Tue May 21, 2013 2:15 pm

I like enchanting my armor as many of you do too. However, I notice that there are only 4 ingredients that make an enchanting potion.

  • Hagraven Claw
  • Blue Butterfly Wing
  • Spriggan Sap
  • Snowberries

Snowberries are normally found in the northern and elevated parts of Skyrim. The wings are found commonly around Falkreath and Whiterun Hold. The claw and sap are so rare that I come across them very rarely.

With Hearthfire, I can grow the Snowberries. But there is no way to have a good supply of the rest. It becomes a pain when I have to go searching for them. At first, I thought HF allowed you to have the butterflies in your home.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that these ingredients need to be more common, specifially the claw and sap. Very few alchemists ever sell them.

Edit: Hmm, looking at the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fortify_Enchanting I found 3 more ingredients...

  • Ancestor Moth Wings (DG)
  • Chaurus Hunter Antennae (DG)
  • Ash Spawn (DB)

The antennae are somewhat common I guess, just go jumping into Falmer Hives, the moths are only at one place and sound bugged apparently, the Ash Spawn become very rare once you've done a lot in Raven Rock.

You don't even need to grow snowberries. Running from Whiterun to Winterhold can net you like a hundred, double up if you get Green Thumb. They're so ridiculously useful that I feel like they should be harder to find.

Ash Spawn is probably the easiest to get if you're going to go farming. It seems like a very common drop and Solstheim is literally crawling with the ugly bastages. I can't imagine it would take very long to get enough ash to make way more items than you'll realistically need.

The claws and the sap are just meant to be rare. Check out the uesp's page on the wings and grab your net for some buggin'. Between some old fashioned tilling the land for wings and wrecking ash, you'd have dozens of ingredients to work with.

Although maybe that's the reformed MMO player in me talking that has farmed for hours on end before.

Snowberries are indeed plentiful in the snowy areas from Solitude, Winterhold and in between. On occasion, I'll find them in the warmer areas as well.

Hagraven feathers and spriggan sap are hard to find because you have to hunt specific living targets for them, and they're not as common as bears and the like.

I think your best bet is Snowberries and Blue Butterfly wings.

I mean, how many Fort Ench potions are you looking to make? Do you really use it enough to need more than a dozen of them at any given time?

I enjoy having a plentiful amount at any given time. I hate the feeling of not having something.

Like now, I have a set of armor I am wanting to enchant, but I don't have the ingredients. I have hundreds of snowberries though.

:D Believe me, I know the feeling. Every few days I can easily harvest 20 Blue Butterfly Wings around Whiterun.

I'd dare guess one could collect 12 wings around the bridge and the Meadery alone.

Just go look around Whiterun, you should not have any problems finding blue butterfly wings.

Travel from Whiterun to Rorikstead, there are butterfly's everywhere. Also around the north entrance of Rifton.

Really just walk to your destination and you should find most ingredients you need for any potion.

Just meander incognito and it won't be too embarrassing.

Or you could roleplay that you got pissed drunk at the Meadery and stumbled out side only to be taken over by blue cliff racers and use your weapon to smite them down. :starwars:

Only thing is... when you smite them the little wings could get lost as the flutter about into the bushes. :turned:

I find it amusing that my Nord warrior can often be found chasing after butterflies in his Daedric armor. It's only 99% of the time that he's butchering bandits and Thalmor.
