Enchanting Items

Post » Wed Jul 15, 2015 9:11 am

Hello all,

I'm new here. I've been searching the internet for awhile now but can't find an answer. I'm very new to enchanting and disenchanting items in this game. If I take a shield, which has a "block 30% more" enchantment on it and disenchant it, I now can enchant items with that. I got that. But when I go to enchant another shield, it only gives me "block 13% more"? Is that because I have a low level in that skill? It is 28. So, if that is the case, when I level up my enchantment skill will the strength of the enchantment rise with it? If I keep leveling my enchantment skill will I be able to get more than 13% blocking or did I waste the 30% block.

If this doesn't make any sense I am sorry. I'm trying to ask should I save good enchanted items for when my skill is higher to disenchant or does the enchantment strength level with your skill.

Thanks.

That's part of it, also depends with which filled soul gem you are using. There are also perks in the enchanting line that will get you more 'bang for the buck' as they say.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Enchanting will give you some helpful info.

So, if I use the "block 30% more" at a low level, it will never be stronger than the "block 13% more" than it is now even as I level? and I am using black soul gems filled with grand souls.

Enchanting is based on 4 things: Perks (the first level, "Enchanter", actually consists of 5 perks that you invest in to reach 100% stronger enchanments, this is the one that caught me out), plus Skill (the level of enchanting reached, the higher the better) plus potions that increase your enchanting buff, the vanilla maximum is 125 iirc (100 skill level + 25 from Enchanter's Elixir). If you mix your own potions you can raise it higher. The last thing is of course the Soul Gem itself.

That said even with all those buffs you'll struggle to match the highest vanilla enchantment levels at least without your own potions. It can just about be done, but barely. The real bonus for reaching 100 enchanting is being able to dual-enchant, want fast magicka regen as well as extra magicka on that robe? No problem.

You have to understand that only a few enchantments will be duplicated exactly -- e.g., Muffle and Waterbreathing -- regardless of the Enchantment skill of the character. What you actually learned by disenchanting the shield was "Fortify Block", and the strength of an enchantment will hinge on the several factors Day mentioned. If you have the Dragonborn DLC or are using the Legendary edition of Skyrim, there is one more positive factor available, provided you have completed the "Unearthed" quest. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ahzidal%27s_Armor Wearing four pieces of Ahzidal's armor while enchanting will increase the character's Enchanting skill by 10.
