Enchanting permanent effects

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:12 am

I can′t seem to figure out how to do it... I′m at the enchanter in Ald Ruhn, I have the Adamantium Helm and a soul gem worth 13000 points.
I chose "fortify attribute", give it a value, set it to self, but when I click on the "cast when used" button it doesn′t do anything?!

I play with BTBs Game Improvements and it wouldn′t work there, so I disabled BTB and still no luck.

Any hints?

Edit: Ok when I disabled ALL of BTBs it worked. I only disabled spells and thought that would be enough.
100 000 for a 1-55 constant strength effect.... back to looting dungeons I guess

You didn't read the readme file that came with the mod and scan for enchanting, did you? ;)

The cost of spell effects has been changed pretty much across the board. Underused effects are now much cheaper, while the ones more prone to abuse have been royally jacked up. In extreme cases (chameleon, fortify attribute, etc.), enchanting and/or spellmaking privileges have been revoked.

Note the part about fortifying an attribute.

Fortify attribute doesn′t even appear in the selection list when you use BTB, it′s just not there at all.
I couldn′t switch to permanent effect with other stuff when using BTB, like feather for example.
Should have used a different example though.

But you just wrote above:

So which is it?

The "Spells" plugin disables enchanting for certain spell effects.

The "Settings" plugin disables constant effect enchantments.

Ok, didn′t see that the settings plugin "overrides" the spells plugin in that respect.

Have you read the whole post above yours or just the first sentence? I explained it.

Anyway, doesn′t matter anymore

I'm a little confused about enchanting items generally - I don't seem able to cast a constant enchant on anything. I thought maybe the game only had cast-able enchants, but then I picked up a belt from somewhere and it had a constant spell effect on it. Do you have to have attained a certain level of enchanting skill before you can enchant a constant effect?

Hang on a minute I think I might, just might be getting my spell-making confuzzled with my enchanting..... doh

You need large enough soulgem (Golden Saint or Ascended Sleeper).

Still, this holds true. Your Enchanting skill (and Intelligence and Luck) must be ridiculously high if you want to be successful in any Constant Effect enchantment, really. The formula for CE enchantments in Morrowind is, according to UESPWiki:

Your Enchanting skill + (0.25 x Intelligence) + (0.125 x Luck) - (5 x enchantment points) = The percentage for a successful enchantment.

Mostly people buff their Intelligence and Luck with fortify potions to get some insane enchantments made.

Also, as mentioned, you need to have a Grand soul to even get the option to try them. So it's either Golden Saints, Ascended Sleepers or some "Special Creatures". :/ Note that you need Grand Soul Gems
Spoiler
(or Azura's Star)
to even harvest them.

As your first sentence had nothing to do with the discussion, and was just an introduction, I suspect I read the whole thing. In fact, I'm sure of it.

Anyway, doesn′t matter anymore

Glad to hear it. Have a nice day.

Considering the insanely high value of the soul required and the pitifully low chance of success with "normal" skills and attributes, it's generally better to just pay to have a Constant Effect enchantment made. The alternativs are to abuse Alchemy and Enchanting to boost your skills and Attributes to the ludicrous level....note that 200 is "high", but nowhere near "ludicrous", or else reload after each of the 37-or-so unsuccessful attempts until you get a success.

To be honest, I really liked the difficulty of Enchanting in Morrowind--and the fact that you could get something closer to what you wanted, if you would only agree to have someone other than your highly skilled self doing it. ;) That was a clever design. The preparations necessary to get things just right, the potions, the enchanted accessories, etc. Shame it was made so much more bland and easier in Oblivion...!

I enjoyed enchanting in Morrowind, other than the insane difficulty of CE enchantments. Oblivion made it simply pointless to enchant, except with Sigil Stones, since any untrained barbarian with a Sigil Stone could do better than a highly skilled professonal enchanter without one. Oblivion also took away "Cast on Use" enchantments, by far the most common type in Morrowind.
