Uh Oh.. Enchanting problem?

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 9:56 am

Hey guys, new to the forums here. I'll try to get straight to the point.

I have level 100 enchanting, and I've been having a lot of fun creating super powerful enchantments for mage clothing. Recently I bought a "Master Robes of Restoration" so I could disenchant it. Here are the stats of the robes - Restoration spells cost 25% less to cast. Magicka regenerates 150% faster.

What I wanted to do was disenchant these robes, and another pair of robes like the Master Robes of Destruction or something. Because of my level 100 enchanting, I can put two enchantments on one robe.

There is a problem however! It does not let me disenchant my "Master Robes of Restoration! The game tells me "The enchantment on this item is already known."

After getting this message, I said to myself "Okay.. this is odd." Apparently I already had this enchantment. I looked at the enchantments I already have, and sure enough, I have one called "Fortify Restoration & Magica Regen".

I decided to use this enchantment on a pair of robes. I also used a Grand Soul Gem to get the maximum out of the enchantment.

I am now looking at the robes. Here are the stats - Restoration spells cost 15% less to cast. Magicka regenerates 10% faster.

Those stats are awful! Long story short, I must have disenchanted something like "Novice Robes of Restoration" or "Adept Robes of Restoration" a few days ago, and this puts a limit on how strong my enchantments can get with the "Fortify Restoration & Magica Regen" enchantment. If I would have disenchanted Master Robes for each enchantment, my enchantments could have been much more effective.

Is there any way around this problem? Can you guys help at all, or is it truly a glitch?? I'm really disappointed. I wanted to enchant a pair of robes that had the stats something like "Conjuration spells cost 25% less to cast. Magicka regenerates 150% faster. Destruction spells cost 25% less to cast. Magicka regenerates 150% faster." Those robes would have been so much better than the Archmage's Robes. It's a good thing I did all of this experiment on a save file I can get rid of without losing anything.

You don't learn the strength. Either you don't have all the relevant perks or your grand gem had a weaker soul than grand.

Also, I'm almost positive the Fortify & Regen enchantment can not get you up to 25% mana cost reduction. Only the pure fortify can get you that.

Its not a glitch, its how enchanting works.

You can only disenchant 1 version of the effect, so even if you disenchanted the "good one", you'd have the same effect to put on.

I'm looking right at the stats of the Arcane Enchanter as I type this. I have level 100 enchanting and here are my stats.

Here are the perks I have, and the only ones that should matter: Enchanter 5/5 - New enchantments are 100% stronger, Insightful Enchanter - Skill enchantments on armor are 25% stronger, Corpus Enchanter - Health, magicka, and stamina enchantments on armor are 25% stronger, Extra Effect - Can put two enchantments on the same item, Soul Squeezer - Soul gems provide extra magicka for recharging, Fire Enchanter - Fire enchantments on weapons and armor are 25% stronger.

I am also use a Grand Soul Gem filled with Grand Soul. I can make rings and amulets that are like 3 times as strong as the best robes I can make. The problem has to be the fact that I can't disenchant Master Robes because I already disenchanted weaker robes.

The problem is probably that you're using the fortify & regen enchantment then. It doesn't go up as high as you're wanting it to. The pure fortify goes up to 25% max. The hybrid with regen shouldn't be able to get the same.

It doesn't matter what you disenchanted to get the enchantment.

That can't be what Bethesda had intended. They really expect players to not disenchant items until they get the best versions of them? How should a player know that?

I said this once, I'll say it one last time.

That doesn't matter. There is only 1 level of the effect you can learn. If you indeed disenchanted the Master Robes, you'd have the same result.

It has nothing to do with the power of the item you disenchant. Had you disenchanted the master robes you would still only be able to enchant 15% reduction 10% regeneration yourself.

Regeneration is crap in combat anyways. Just ignore it and go with the straight up 25% from plain fortification.

Agreed, its much better. Although, personally I'd keep the arch-mage robes. Its nice to have a 15% reduction in both Destruction and Restoration on 1 item. The 50 Magicka doesn't hurt either.

Regen is alright, and I recommend using it if you have no other choice, but in general, its pretty lackluster.

Here is another enchantment combo that is really weak.

Fortify Destruction + Fortify Destruction & Magicka Regen. Destruction spells cost 45% less to cast and Magicka regenerates 10% faster.

I can also do Fortify Destruction + Fortify Magicka Regen. Destruction spells cost 25% less to cast and Magicka regenerates 62% faster.

I can buy Master Destruction Robes that makes it 25% less to cast Destruction spells and 150% faster Magicka regeneration.

The robes in stores are better than robes I can make? I can't replicate the robes in stores..

The robes in stores have better regen. As stated, regen is crap.

You can get better fortify. Which is far better.

Okay, I can accept the fact that it doesn't matter what level of robes you disenchant, but why can't I replicate Master Robes?

I was also just testing with Restoration robes, as that was the easiest one to buy at the Arcane Enchanter I'm at. I don't plan on using Master Restoration robes, but the same stats in different words apply for Destruction Robes, Conjuration Robes, etc.

I also plan on using the Archmage's Robes still. The robes I want to mage would be for a follower.

With 100 enchanting and the perk you can make your own robes (or better yet plate mail) with 25% reduction in both destruction and restoration (more if you use alchemy too). 50 extra magika doesn't matter when your spells are free either.

As the others stated there aren't any "grades" of enchants that you get from disenchanting. The "grade" when enchanting is determined by your skill and soul gem. You can get a +25% potion too so don't forget that.
