Enchanting visual effects

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:11 pm

I hope enchanting a weapon will leave a nice visual effect on a weapon

For example you enchant your sword to do a small amount fire damage, the weapon will then have a small flame effect on the weapon.

And then the bigger the magnitude of the enchant you could get it up to a massive flame (think Trueflame from Morrowind)

They implemented this a small amount in OB where the weapon would have a glow on the outline.

Weapons could feel a little more unique and exciting if this was implemented :D

What do you guys think?

Indeed. I would like to see details of the weapon glow with the related colour of the element that it is enchanted with.

I would like to dual weild two swords of fire, like http://geekmontage.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Gothic3SOF.jpg and the bigger the enchant is, the bigger the flames get, that would look nice.

There's actually a mod for tes4 that added effects like this to weapons (fire had flames coming off .etc) I'd assume gamesas will implement this into vanilla skyrim.

I hope the "effects" are subtle and not lame and stupid like MW and OB

like a weird shine to the weapon and yes a subtle fire that sometimes flickers across the weapon

and ffs no wow like effects (lazes and asteroids orbiting weapons)

I think that would be very cool. It would also better help let the player know when he's up against a magic weapon. There are some effects I'm unsure of how they would look, such as effects like burden. Regardless, it would be awesome and give magical weapons and items a powerful and unique look.

My wish is that a master smith/enchanter can craft a Trueflame/Hopesfire-esc weapon, but I guess that's a bit of a stretch.

What would be nice if instead of a glow, visible runes show up on enchanted weapons.

I could go for runes, or a flickering effect.
The glowing saran wrap was terrible.

Really anything as long as it isn't really wierd, or stupid.

I dont know, the way it was done in Oblivion was nice. Most here are like "that looked weird and stupid". I have no idea why it would look weird or stupid. You have to remember it was a response to Morrowind's enchanted weapons that looked like pieces of foam. Sure, we'd all like fire on weapons, but besides eye candy, it should be practical. Just because its a thing concerning visuals doesnt mean whats practical has no bearing on it. So a colored, oily shine on weapons may be able to cover all possible enchantments rather than animated effects, which can basically be done for easy things like elemental damage, but dont make much sense for non elemental or none damage effects.

I preffer magic weapons not showing any magical effects. Engraved runes on the other hand would be quite cool.
