Enchanting should been a free for all, whatever magic effect on whatever piece of equipment, on use/hit or constant effect.
What I hate about enchanted is that the amount of charges a Grand Soul Gem give about the same amount of charges as weaker Soul Gems; at least for me anyway, because I really don't notice any differences. Also, it really svcks for archers who use enchanted bows, because every missed shot costs you charges.
And powerfully enchanted weapons seem to run out of charges FASTER rather than slower (which is what POWERFULLY enchanted was supposed to mean!). Beth's balancing is a pain in the butt... I'm thinking of a way to use the restoration-potion exploit to give weapons more charges without increasing it's enchantments' damage to astronomical levels.
I like enchantments. My vamp uses them with her bound bow to boost her archery output, and her robes to boost her magica and illusion, but just the peerless ring and circlet and master robes rather than doing her own enchanting. I have a couple pet peeves to leveling up enchanting. One is the guards will comment on your magic skill, which is fine for a mage, but I don't like it for my archers. The other, the worst, is the bow will make a magic like sound during the equipping sequence even if there is no enchantment on it. It's distracting.
I use three pieces of apparel enchanted with Fortify destruction and i have permanent enchantments on weapons. When i want to lvl up my enchanting skill (legendary), i have to use another weapon enchanted only with soul trap, or change my armor.
I use dual swords, one enchanted with Fiery Soul trap and absorb stamina and the second one enchanted with chaos damage and absorb life.
Ahh yes, I can feel it. Enchanting and soul gems getting cut from the next game. It works the exact same way as the hammers did in Oblivion so that will likely get cut.
Agreed. The first kill I made with an enchanted sword it felt like a cop-out, I never did it again. I had a fantastic battle with a goblin warlord once who was decimating me with his enchanted axe, but in the end I got him and it did feel such a victory without using enchantments.
Taking screen-shots you can't get a decent shot with all that enchantment sparkle coming off the weapons...... it should be bad for sneaking as well.
Best to win with better skill of game-play.
Why cant I LOVE them?
I like them
I love it. Here are a couple pieces of my level 47 Nord's gear:

I like using enchantments, but sometimes I feel like they're necessary for a lot of my characters to survive at higher difficulties so I don't like that.
I like the act of disenchanting/enchanting, though. It's probably my favorite crafting skill.
It's ok.
I certainly don't have a problem with using enchanted weapons to kill things. Most of the time my crafting skills are quite low, so my gear never feels overpowered.
My biggest problem with Enchanting in Skyrim is just that it's rather boring. Enchantments on armor/clothes/jewelry are always constant effect, and there aren't that many effects to play around with, as opposed to past games. Enchantments on weapons are always cast on strike, and again, the effects are limited.
I'd love to have a bit of the Morrowind style enchanting come back. Enchant a ring that allows you to cast a fireball. Enchant a sword that allows you to cast invisibility. Enchant a set of boots that allows you to summon a ghost. Of course, Morrowind's Enchant skill could make casting spells completely unnecessary. But at least give us some of the effects back.
Why can't I enchant a sword with Weakness to Fire, for example? Or a ring of Stoneflesh? We have these effects in the game, but for some reason they're all split up and spread around, meaning a character would need to dabble in Alchemy and Enchanting and several magical schools - and then start applying poisons - in order to enjoy them all.
Really, though, it's the dullness of it. When my sorcerer is walking around with fully enchanted armor, he doesn't feel like he's a master enchanter. Since all the worn enchantments are simply "make you better", you forget they exist for the most part.
I seem to get bored with characters once I reach 100 in Enchanting*, since then I have the best gear and little else to aim for, and it does make things quite easy. I enjoy leveling it up however as it seems to be a nice money-maker, and going out and harvesting souls is fun, it's just a shame that once I reach it I tend to feel the urge to restart with a new character.
Love them on armor, avoid them on weapons.
I don't want to bother recharging them every ten swings; and also i find that, as i play on default, weapons are already powerful enough. The only exception is if i want the elemental glow on one for roleplay reasons, in which case i enchant it, but only with the lowest damage possible.
Heh, some posts in this thread make me think of my Morrowind main: a 'basic' warrior, but with Enchanting among primaries.
An ordinary person, made superhuman by trinkets of his creation. He was Iron Man.
Oh god, please no... noo..... NOOOOOOOOO!!!
I like enchanting, though i feel they should tone it down a bit, i felt they were a bit too strong, it just didn't scale well with the difficulty level, same goes for smithing. In the end i had to severely limit my character by giving him weaker weapons and armour for even the Legendary difficulty to be even minutely challenging. *this was on the console version of course, whereas the PC is much more balanced with mods*
Also some enchantments were absolutely useless, where as they missed out some much needed ones like Fortify Destruction *more damage from spells*.
