to be fair the level cap has been a topic of debate since Fallout 3, so it would have been decided anyway.

I would argue, the real mistake with Fallout 3's ending was Broken Steel as it broke the game, literally. The Ending was not great but it was way better then what we got with Broken Steel. I just Hope that the story will have an ending that makes sense and is fulfilling like Oblivion and even Morrowind too. Emil is still head writer though and that leaves me extremely skeptical that the ending will be satisfactory.
Extremely happy to hear this. Really even more hyped now.
I honestly don't see how anyone could say Fo3's default ending was better then Broken Steel. Fo3's default ending, much like every other RPG that ends, made everything you did 100% pointless and meaningless, since nothing actually changed in the game.
Actually seeing
-The purifier actually on and pumping water.
-The BoS building up a fairly large base and machines to deal with the water system.
-Water caravans delivering water to communities in the wastes.
-Several new quests about various people trying to take advantage of the water to their own ends.
-Several new actual accouters such as raiders using aqua pura cases as a lure for an ambush, and the BoS attacking Talon Company because they keep stealing water.
was a far more satisfying ending then the "everything was better... the end" narration over a still slideshow slide that we got in vanilla Fallout 3.
Actually having the world react is far better then no reaction with a slideshow at the end SAYING stuff happened, when it very visibly doesn't in-game.
Indeed. I would have given Bethesda some props if they'd just stuck to their [censored] ending. Listening to the fans is not always a good thing IMO; they sold out their story with a cop-out because of more sales. IMO in an RPG/Story then the story should come first.
This isn't really a surprise, Todd has mentioned that he doesn't want to have level caps anymore after Fallout 3 and the same with playing after the end.
Please explain why? If you don't want to continue leveling, just start a new Character when you finish the story. Not sure why it's disappointing that others that want to can continue....
The slide show can tell us what happened over a great length of time, as much as they let it too infact. Post ending game-play doesn't. The Brotherhood of Steel built some more machinery at Jefferson and occasionally a water caravan is outside Megaton right next to the same guy that's been begging for water since the start of the game.
That's all great until you realize that you poisoned the water and sided with Eden...
I have my doubts that the world is going to react to you finishing the main quest. I mean in Skyrim all it lead to was a new song and maybe some dialoge from the guards, that's hardly showing the effects of you beating Alduin.
Maybe it'll be different with more memory with the Xbox One and PS4 but I'm not holding my breath.
No end is very different from being able to play after the end. The latter of which I can accept under certain circumstances and the former of which makes all of the player's actions throughout the game completely meaningless; The ride is fun, but their is no destination.
So does this also confirm no ending slides (no ending)? This also makes me wonder if 1.) there is no reactivity to player actions at all. 2.) there is reactivity and as a result, there is a very limited number of choices and endings.
I'll wait for the clarification before I make any actual judgments, but no ending (even with play after ending) would be very, very disappointing.
Well, if there's no level cap and we can increase SPECIAL at every level where is the diversity in builds? Say there's a limit on SPECIAL increases, so each levelup we can only pick a perk but what happens when me take all the perks that we can for the amount of SPECIAL we have? We still level up but can't increase anything on our character while the world will get stronger? Mobs will probably have a level cap, but what's fun about leveling if we're locked out of perks to pick?
The difference, I think, is that in Skyrim you were not fighting to change anything. You were fighting to preserve the status quo. Alduin wanted to destroy/eat/demolish the world. You stopped him. That doesn't change the world so much, it merely ensures its survival. In Fallout 3 you were fighting to change the world, or at least the DC area. And you did. The purifier is operational, BoS troops and Rivet City guards make sure the water reaches the settlements. Now this was hastily done, rushed into a DLC format. If it is Beth's plan from the beginning to allow the protagonist to keep playing I think they can make it work better this time around.
I've never seen a long-term dealing post-game slideshow slide that wasn't able to be expressed by an NPC as "this will happen in X months/years time".
There is no more or less emotional impact from being told by a post-game slideshow that doing X will caused two faction to ally, then there is being told the same thing by an NPC in-game.
The only difference is that one ends the game for no reason, while the other doesn't.
I'm totally cool with a soft cap and no end.
The replay value is through the roof which should make everyone happy.
This is the best of both worlds for MOAT players and role players considering just how much impact the Special and Perk system has on the Sole Survivor.
I figure that once the main quest is done, I've explored a little, and wrapped up any roleplaying goals for the current Sole Survivor, I'm going to be chomping on the bit to try a different Sole Survivor.
I can play six extremely different level fifty Sole Survivors while a MOAT player can play one level 200 MOAT Sole Survivor.
I think this is as close as Bethesda can come to making everyone happy.
I assume there is no cap to increasing special, but again there is most likely be a soft cap, meaning at some point the exp requirement to level up increases dramatically, so unless you′re die hard set on trying to make a maxed out character, ya gonna reach a point ya just wanna stop and run a new build.
