End of Mage College questline is pretty anticlimactic...

***Minor spoilers ahoy!***

I just finished the Mage College's questline a bit ago, and I have to say that it was pretty disappointing. I mean, okay, you

fight for control over the Eye of Magnus with Ancano and become Arch-Mage,
but after that...there's pretty much nothing. Tolfdir is all, "Hey, nice job. Here's some new stuff, I'm going to be going now. Oh, think you could go fetch my alembic for me? Thanks."

Honestly, the most excitement I got from this was when a dragon (for the first time) attacked the college as I made my return trip for the last quest.

Apart from that, the questline was short and
Spoiler
I don't feel like my new position has really earned me any recognition from the other mages. Really, nothing is all that different.
Pretty sure I felt a greater sense of accomplishment when I finished the Mage's Guild in Oblivion.

I dunno, what do you guys think? Are the other side-questlines like this, too? I'm thinking of tackling either the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood next.

The College questline was undefendably crappy. There's no way around it. I had the same feeling of disbelief after finishing the questline myself - the story was uninteresting, unsurprising and short, and the fact that you never even got to know what that stupid orb was feels like a slap in the face. Not that I really even cared that much, but that's the least I expected out of the storyline. To sum up, the story gives you absolutely nothing, no feeling of achievement at all (since the questline is so short and easy, and because you don't get any information about anything in the end).

Yea, I don't really like how the Psijics basically ended all the eye business for us as well. I don't really feel like I did enough to be Arch-Mage.

Maybe one of the DLC will deal more with the eye and the Psijics.

Exactly. There are so many unanswered questions. Even going through Labyrinthian had me confused, what with the random dialogue from the Dragon Priest and the mage ghosts. It was poorly explained and felt very rushed.

Yeah... I felt the entire mages college quest line was dull and full of lost potential

It started out pretty neat where you go on a tour of the school, get a dorm, meet your peers and teachers, then go to class. Im a bit embarrassed to say, but after a start like that I was expecting some Harry Potter style intrigue and 'war of classes' (whos better Alteration or Restoration?)

Instead we get ANOTHER dungeon crawl.

The main story ending was redundantly anticlimactic.

I think the questline has (or had) potential. It's interesting. Magnus, Labyrinthian, the Psijics, etc. But it was just too short and without delving into or explaining these interesting things.

I agree 100%.

Actually anticlimactic is a very good way to describe the end of every faction I've played so far (all except the Dark brotherhood) and the main story itself.

At the end of every one of those quests I always feel like... Ok now what?... Oh that was it?...

...

I didn't even know what was going on 90% of the time.

What the hell is that big orb thingy? It was never actually explained what it is.

the College of Winterhold is a horrific questline, it's a real let down on the mage's guild from Oblivion...

Oh gosh, I got a little bit of that feeling too, in the beginning. I actually go train a little when I see others train in the big hall. I drop an item, and practice my Telekinesis alongside them. just a little bit, because it raises your Alteration quite fast. Or I summon and attack my summon, but then everybody just goes "my money is on the big one"
I was a bit disappointed because again you're "the only one that can save us", but you're left with so many unanswered questions. And the Psijics are all "k, now we are going to take our toys and leave, k, bye! We know you did all this stuff, but you're kinda stupid to comprehend, you were just a tool. Oh ,yeah, and maybeee we could have taken it from the beginning, but we just wanted some lulz"
Maybe a DLC....

Agreed. You go from "Today we are learning about basic ward spells" to somehow being deemed suitable to be sent into lost dungeons in search of powerful lost artifacts and somehow coming out as archmage (ahead of all the other people in the school). With no learning or advancement in between.

Probably the worst questline in any TES game. At least from what I can recall.
And it's so short. What is up with that? It was over before it started.

Hmmm, yes, In Oblivion you were a victim of circumstance, you were just innocently walking to collect your mage's staff and yeah... hello nice people in black robes... with red skulls being held up by two skeletal hands on them... erm... wait where's my... OH NO!

I created my first character purely for the college...The experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

With all the interesting factions and artifacts this could have been the best mage guild quest line yet. But instead it svcked so miserably it shook my faith in the entire game.

Why do they let you into the college so easily? Why do they trust a guy who just walked in randomly a few days ago with the fate of the entire college? They don't even help you in any of the quests..They are so inept they send a lowly apprentice out to do by himself what a team of senior mages should be doing. Multiple times!!!

Even without these holes everything is rushed and nothing is truly resolved. Why in the [censored] hell are you now Archmage??? It's not a college its a Kindergarten.

I guess my problem is my emphasis is on roleplaying. Everything feels so artificial and pointless.

Progression in this game guild-wise svcks bigtime.

You are doing one quest after the other and then suddenly you become guildmaster and everyone is like (" well I guess that is ok ") lol wat !?
