End Of Year Awards

I only just saw this existed - I think it's a great idea! People spend so much time and effort on fiction for this fandom, and I think it's a great idea to reward their efforts. Unfortunately, I have no experience with either reading or participating in RP, so I can only make my choices for fanfiction.

Best Fiction: Morrowind by Alexander. This story has slipped into the recesses of the forum, but I absolutely loved it. Alexander slowly drew me into his world, and since it was about a group that I cared little for in the game (the Telvanni), the fact that by the end I was desperate to know what would happen next is a good indicator of how intriguing it was. His plot was the kind of murder mystery I adore, and his immersion into the alien world of Morrowind was very effective.

Unfortunately I don't think I've read enough of the available fiction, which is a crime, because there are some incredibly talented writers around. There are other pieces I loved - Challenges by bhen and The Last Slave by Radont, who I believe is writing his own original novel now, being among the most enjoyable.

Best Character in Fiction: For me, this would have to be FC4s Siena from Manic Dementia. I feel that throughout the writing of this story, Siena's character has grown in leaps and bounds as FC4 has discovered her along with the rest of us. What I love so much about her is the fact that she is a strong, relatable, realistic female lead - something annoyingly scarce in the fantasy genre as a whole. The gritty realism in FC4's writing - fighting and doing magic is tiring, adventures are uncomfortable, madness is terrifying - translates beautifully into Siena's experiences, and as a result, the readers'. The fact that she is strong despite the realistic odds stacked against her is what makes people care about her, and FC4's story so readable.

I've never participated in this sort of thing but someone who will remain un named (STORYTELLER) kept telling me to so here goes. I won't vote for everything, just in areas where I have had exposure to.

How long will voting be going for? I hope we allow it so that as many people as possible vote.

Best Overall Roleplayer: Honorable mention for Illusionary Nothing who up until she vanished off of the fourms (shame shame shame :P ) a while ago has shown me why everyone was saying her name. I find myself after her posts wanting to say "and then what" wanting more. Even so she for me comes in a very very close second next to Gerald Duval who to me makes TES feel real. His characters are hilarious which wear their flaws like jewelery. Septimus talking with himself (or his dead friend, whichever it is) while staving off his drinking problem as he tries to keep peace in Hammerfell (or make war depending on what side you are on) contrasting well with Cincinatus is one of the most interesting and funny things i've read.

Most Improved RPer: CrazyJoker without a doubt. Not that he came from such a "low place" but how high he has managed to reach in such a short span of time. His characters are expressive, well designed, interesting and he has done well with imagery. I really like the situation between Christopher and Priscilla and their over all surrounding. You can really sense emotion.

Best Characters: Honorble mention to FC4 who has shown the ability to RP a variety of characters. You've shown adaptablitly matched by few and far between. My vote goes for Illusionary Nothing who has wonderful development. When she writes she takes you places. I really liked Mercury who was unique and an interesting partner to Serosi. Her reaction to him changed more and more as she followed the rabbit trail that is Serosi's madness.

Best RP/Most innovative RP/Best Story in an RP: All three for Siege of Sentinel. For me most of all it is impressive how when people leave do to real life and the RP stops, when they return it picks right up. To me that says people have invested something worthwhile into the RP and are interested in seeing it through. I started the RP over a year ago and never expected this chapter to last this long. The innovation I think with SoS is a very simple concept I wanted to bring to life. Why do people make political RPs, adventure RPs, stealth RPs, this and that...and what exactly is getting in the way of having everything together. In SoS we managed to break that cliche by having everything. So while at first the title might be an off put for some and might scream "War!" in the middle of all this situation we have the politcal back drop and ramifications of the actions taken here which will be represented in further stories of the IB Timeline. We have a group of mercenaries who expected to simply be handed out some jobs but may be the sole reason the empire stands a chance in maintaining peace and order. We have an assassin within the walls of Sentinel with a father leading the Legions he doesn't know he has. Meanwhile a mysterious duo seem to ignore their surroundings while going about in a cut throat manner in attaining their unknown goals. A king who is trying to find himself and his role in Hammerfell after the death of his father, and it all just goes on and on. The innovation is also what makes the story so great. People write full length posts detailing emotions, movements, conversations. I did a very simple thing, I pointed out the sides, provided the goals and the obstacles and with this very talented writers were drawn to the RP and they've made SoS great and I can't wait for High Rock: Sins of My Ancestry.

Thanks Arathorn. I'm glad that you enjoyed the story.

And thanks to you too, Red. But what's all this "he deserves it more" nonsense? You're a damn fine writer; hell, just look at all the people who voted for you! Give yourself some credit, eh?

I don't think I'm a bad writer, but I also don't think I'm a better writer than, say, you, Frank, and Brian S, just to name a few. Thanks, though. :)

Best Fiction: Tough one this, and I narrowed it down from a shortlist of five. "Blood On The Moon" by Treydog, "The Dark Brotherhood: A Listener's Tale" by allshallfade, "Morrowind" by Alexander, "The King And I" by Rumpleteasza and "Of Fate, Luck and Ambition" by BSparrow. There was basically nothing to choose between them as all would be more than deserving, yet I've gone with "Morrowind" by Alexander for both the brilliant plot, full of twists and turns, and also for the fact that it's the only one which is actually completed.

Best Character in Fiction: Athlain, from Treydog's "Blood On The Moon". Flawed, funny, uncertain, struggling to live up to the legend of his father yet possessing real grit and determination. Just a superb lead character and a joy to read about.

Sadly I know nothing about the roleplaying side :( , so I cannot venture an opinion, and there isn't a "Most Improved Writer" option... but if there had been :P it would have gone to Redsrock. "The Ice Warrior" in particular was shaping up to be a superb story, until the rather sudden and disappointing end. I'd really love to see that story redone as it has the potential to be a real great.

Yeah, several others have told me that. I'd tell you I'll redo the ending some day, but that would probably be a lie.

Wouldn't counting defeat the purpose? I thought Raven said this was all in good fun, and the votes didn't really mean anything.

Why wouldn't we remember our good buddy from Norway?

I come and I go. It's my roaming nature.

And it obvious I won, because....well....it just is.
