Ending with Cass

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2010 10:16 am

I just finished New Vegas for the first time with the House ending, as i thought that would be the best for the wasteland overall, damn was i wrong. I was saddenned when it showed me that my favourite minor faction, the Kings, were slaughtered by House's robots; and then with Cass, it showed me what looked like her suicide, was it suicide? And I was wondering, what does she mean by "We were going full speed ahead... but facing backwards the whole time"?

I'll probably have to reload my save to when you pick an ending faction and side with the NCR, because their ending seems to be the best for the wasteland, and where most are happy.

Thanks.

Nah man, it depends on what you did in the quests... like if you had the kings kill NCR and get even more rowdy with them, Mr. House loves that and will venerate them for that.

Or if you the the families quests, they will help the strip be even better and more stable. House is probably thebest ending because of his knowledge and because he doesn't want to be a tyrant ruling over minute details of people's lives, EVERYONE else is a greedy bastard out for themselves, house actually wants to see the world rebuilt to former pre war glory, nothing else, just progress and perhaps finding a new earth to call home.

CL wants to dominate the land, kill all enemies, NCR wants the SAME EXACT THING they just operate under the guise of "liberty, and democracy" which got the world into the state that it's in, in the Fallout universe. At least CL is honest about their motives lol NCR is just full of lying, cheating, stealing, and looting A-holes who only care about themselves and they are a bunch of dumb farmer boys and vault dwellers (if i'm remembering the whole ending to fallout with the thing with Tandi and Aradesh creating the NCR yadda yadda) with no real knowledge, hell, they can't even get a solar power plant running and they are supposed to be a super power in the world? Meh...whateva lol.

Yes Man is really tricky, if you work it right, you should leave vegas like vegas in RL is, no real control over it, just independence for everyone to do their own thing, no NCR or CL looming over them constantly or anything like that... it's really picky though, you gotta be real sure to get the "peaceful" ending for every subquest and it'll be a strong, unified vegas... otherwise it's a crap ending with everything going to hell.

I got the feeling at the end of Houses ending that all he wants is for vegas to be back to its former glory, and he leaves the rest of the wasteland out in the cold. At least the NCR are trying to unite the whole wasteland. House just wants to make a profit from them.

But back to my original question, does Cass commit suicide in the end? And what does she mean by her spoken phrase at the end?

I really doubt it was suicide, more like her last quote before she left the dam to do whatever.

As for her quote, I interrupt it to mean that society is progressing(full speed ahead), but not paying attention to where that progression will take them(facing backwards).

I just looked up this ending...

Cass lived to see Hoover Dam in its Old World glory, humming with power the likes of which the Mojave had never seen. Vegas burned brighter than ever, Securitrons filled the streets, and Cass's heart skipped... just a little. Her last words were to the Dam - and to herself. "We were going full speed ahead... but facing backwards the whole time."

I don't think it's suicide. What it does sound like is that she dies at the hands of the Securitrons.

I'll grant it's freaky- the main argument against it would be that it's just too odd. It's not like the Securitrons murder everyone on the Strip, and she's your buddy. There's no reason for it, and it's possible they just worded it poorly- that, structured more appropriately, it might say, "Her last words before leaving New Vegas were..."

But damned if it doesn't read like she eats it right then and there.

Since she was standing by the dam when she said it, i interpreted it as her saying those last words to herself and the dam before she jumped. I have no idea why she would commit suicide though, she was a very well respected friend of the courier. Even with the Legion ending she doesn't react as strongly as the House ending. I have no idea why she would get herself killed.

Because she doesn't jump, I saw her standing in front of the dam after the Yes Man! and NCR ending. The only implication is she left the Mojave.

For all House's technological promise his future has no humanity, it as clinical and deathless as the Lucky 38. His vision for mankind is just a gilded cage, a mirror of his own lonely insanity writ large.

Cass didn't kill herself though. Really. She was just having a thoughtful moment at the picturesque dam. Definitely not the type to do herself in, for starters.

House's perceptions and memories have been warped to the point of unreliablilty. His idea of "pre war glory" is every bit as deluded as Caesar's.

Cass has a hearth condition and is older then she looks.
She simply has a heart attack and dies, when is not clear.

I sided with the NCR, on my ending slide Cass talked about how she came to do the dirty with me, but she only found an NCR soldier. She did it anyway and left the Mojave.

Cass has a pretty sarcastic personaility so don't expect her to cheer any of your choices. I think the best you can hope for is if you choose to defy House, NCR and the Legion all together. You manage to defeat three armies... which was three more than she expected you to.

Meh, I don't like cass anyways lol I always let Jean Baptiste kill her. Shame that veronica's endings aren't great... hell, none of the companions ever get a "good" ending... always dismal and bleak, I suppose it's supposed to remind you that no matter how good the courier's intentions are, someone is always getting a knife in their back no matter what... and I think that's what the companion slides are for, to show the side effects of good intentions gone wrong.

I still don't think House is delusional or anything. I don't get why people support the NCR though, they are basically CL in army uniforms and instead of crucifying their enemies, they just kill them and move on, they even had you torture a CL captive in McCarran... w/e though, getting offtopic.

I don't think cass would commit suicide, she drowns her sorrows in whiskey and probably will die from it anyways so it shouldn't be expected for her to survive very long lol. I think she's very cynical, even when you send her to the lucky 38... she "reluctantly" goes there, So I just think she's against a big ruling authority like house, or CL, or NCR, she doesn't think any of them are competent leading powers and would rather see the wastes in anarchistic desparation...

Me neither, but all I have got is Cass counted me took down three armies after taking down another three. As well as how Van Graff and Crimson have cut their business to Mojave, or just east in general.

I think she finally get drunk, for once :celebration:

Cass ending is a happy ending.

It means she actually got excited at how well Las Vegas is doing and how brilliant it looked. The phrase were used because Cass is pretty non-chalant about anything. For her heart to actually skip it means she was really impressed.

Her last words are just that her last words. When she has lived her life and died, her wisdom is that everyone just rush full speed ahead but always looking at the past and not paying attention to the possibilities of the future.

No its not. Mr. House is a reliable, dependable, and extremely intelligent, if cold, man. He would have propelled humanity forwards into the stars with his pre-war knowledge. House is an excellent Leader, with extremey far reaching goals. He is not an insane man bent on reclaiming pre-war glory. He has done it, and with his guidance, Humanity will be saved from the hellstorm the NCR brings when they meet another 'democratic society'.

I respectfully disagree. :)

200 years of robot-enabled solitude have left House madder than a bag of spanners. A tin-pot despot who only disinguishes himself from Caesar by running up a wholly pointless electricity bill.

The Strip is not pre-war glory, not even close. It's a madman's theme-park.

And THIS, the respectful disagreement in character's motives and true personality (with regards to House) is why this game is SO much better than FO3.

A madman's theme park? Bah.

I respectfully disagree, as well :D

Look at it. For some it may be a veritable Sodom. He is not in it for that, however. He is not mad. He is cool, extremely intelligent, and calm. This was the man that singlehandedly saved New Vegas from the war, with excellent foesight, and ran the most powerful robotics corporation the world had ever known.

House's isolation has only left him stronger. He is uncorrupted by the many different lures of the Wasteland, and does not have his mind twisted by glory. He has no interest for it, he simply wants to restore humanity. Vegas' electric bill is his way of saying 'we're open, come on in and pay me money!'

It is a excellent way for him to get his revenue up. With it, he can finance further improvements, and expand his reach far beyond Vegas.

As for the Despotism, democracies have been shown to be corrupted and ineffecient(In the game at least). Already, the NCR is straining over political ineffeciency and a weak government. House solves two problems in one.

1. He controls the Securitrons, but he is not absolutist, he knows that the people are the ones which will propel Vegas into more glory.

2. With everlasting life(or as long as he can keep his electricity on), House can keep a good rule over Vegas for centuries, avoiding that unpleasent anarchy that plagued nations with charismatic leaders who burned out quickly.

3. House has a plan, for all humanity. He will be the one that can finally make man find a new planet, where it can live, without the social boundries of the old world. He can see ahead, and although he is ambitious, he has proof to prop up his claims. He has though every intricate detail so perfectly, that I would trust him much more than the hypocritical soon-to-start-new-great war-NCR, or the Legion, for obvious reasons.

Lawyer, you and I are kindred spirits...

I feel the exact same way, when I was speaking to House, I just fell in love with his ideals and his plans. He has everything figured out and even being ousted from his inheritance, he was able to become near god-like with his own sheer ambition and drive as well as effort. He will stop for no one, and in the ending, if you did the good ending for him, he will respect the courier and get insight from him/her on ideas, to make sure he doesn't go too far with his policies and what not. Notice, when you play for caesar and the NCR they always do what they want, they give you a stupid laurel or a coin then just toss the courier aside, like a used dish rag, with house, you become his partner in business and are well taken care of. The other factions (including yes man) do not provide that.

"If you want to see the fate of democracies, look out the window" that's so true, look at today's thriving democracies... greece is bankrupt, so is the U.S. And all of the other Democracies are struggling all because they depend on political power and need to look "good" for the public so they introduce rediculous, resource burning policies and acts to please special interest groups to keep them fat and in power.

House doesn't care if you sleep wiht hokers and get high on Jet, he just cares that you bought it from the strip lol. He has little to no discriminations against other peoples, he recruited the three families, one of which used to be cannibals, the other, thugs, and the chairmen... well....idk about them lol. He doesn't care what you are or who you are or what family you came from, all he cares is that you are a loyal, responsible, resourceful employee.

Yes. Mr. House, if you notice his dialogue, will eventually treat you very warmly. Despite his immsense power, he will not throw you away. He understands your true potential, and keep you. He is a great guy, and I would absolutely be with him to the end. He does not discriminate, as long as he knows he can get to your true potential. To the others, you are a tool. To House, you are a Son, a Vice-President, and a loyal friend.

Or he just want your trust and loyalty.

Undoubtedly he is most capable man in the wasteland, but direct control to an synchronized army? Not so good. At least have someone with other says would make the regime more well-covered.

Oh come now. He uses them for order. If certain groups get in his way(e.g the kings if you don't persuade them to kill NCR) he will displace and kill them, because they are disrupting order.

You see, Mr. House is one of a kind. He has gotten over a century and a half to think about different variables and the like involving his army. He would not to anything that would directly damage his revenue or hurt th Strip's reputation to tourists.

Besides, look at your other choices. You have the NCR, which will probably hurt the strip much more than help it. Yes Man could easily go rampant and kill huge amounts of random people for 'effeciency'. Caesar's legion is well..Caesar's legion. They may open some baths, turn the pipelines into dirty aqueducts, but also leave a whole lot of dead bodies and destroyed technology.

There is not one doctor anywhere on the Strip. I find this detail quite telling.

in my opinion, House is the best of all groups, he has the "go getter, driven" attitude that caesar has, the idealism of freedom and indepence from huge ruling authorities, keeping vegas as just vegas like yesman, and the resources and ability to negotiate like the NCR without all the clutter the other groups have...

Like lawyer said, if he wanted to be a killing efficient psycopath, he would have already killed the kings and freesiders and enforced rediculous laws, but he isn't is he?
