8 endings!?!

Because you need 10 dialogue options to talk to a dog...? Or a robot? Or a sale man in front of your door?

Of course they can branch, but would they? And that is also, at best, speculation. Knowing that writing isn't exactly Bethesda's forte, I think we can safely assume that those "four dialogue options" would suffice majority of the conversations. As a fellow forumite suggested they could map another key to any additional dialogue option or maybe include a "more" branch.

Heh. That's awesome. And probably all too accurate.

There is a difference between actual endings and the variations in the ending. The Witcher 3 has 4 different endings but 100's of variations (as i recall) same with DA:I. So 8 endings with 100 variations is actually alot, and if it is done well then sign me up.

So what does the source really say? As far as I understand it was a misunderstatement?

That's basically what it was about, blown up, torn apart, and turned on it's side... pretty much almost every detail of the game has been thus far.

This a pretty big leap straight into pure conjecture. Most of our other musings are baby steps compared to this.

I'm curious to know whether your dialogue choices actually make your personality sticky in terms of later options.

As long as I can keep playing after the 'ending' is all that matters to me. MQ in these games never really matter much to me. Just another quest.

EDIT: I listened to the vid and still missed where they talked about 8 endings...

they never talked about 8 endings, they talked about 8 distinct personalities emerging from your dialog choices and the OP mad e a leap from that to and ending for each type.

Brilliant argument! There absolutely isn't about ten thousands things the player might want to ask the salesman instead of immaturely slamming the door in his face, or the robot after apparently being 200 years asleep after being hit by a nuclear blast. Hell, why would you even need 4 options? 2 is enough for most communication!

Yes, I bet Bethesda loves customers like you. I'm saving that comment for later use.

It really depends on how you count "endings".

It can be said that Fallout NV had 4 endings. Using a different way of counting them, Fallout 2 had over one hundred. Basically, are they talking about possible ways the main story can end or are they talking about how many different slideshows can be put together for "The End".

Hey take it down a notch, we're all friends here so lets keep it friendly.

It's not impossible that the presentation was intentionally stunted to avoid story spoilage. Be kinda tough to mold 8 distinct personalities from just 2-4 simple responses. We will no doubt be shown more in depth stuff regarding the story and NPC interaction at a later date closer to release. We should all reserve judgement until we have more than abject speculation to go on.

I don't see anything friendly about saying "why do you want more options when you can have less?" and I respond appropriately.

And of course it's possible that everything will be different in the end, but the evidence so far suggests otherwise. Bot the gameplay already shown and the fact that Todd Howard was stuck when asked about story. Obviously I would be more than happy to see even something like proper unlimited full line selection on PC, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Then again, adding options just for the sake of having a bigger number is stupid, so maybe BSG is doing us a favour.

I doubt it. It'd be seen as a draconian restriction on roleplaying freedom and people would rail against it with righteous fury. Plus it'd be a lot of extra work for something that most players probably wouldn't even notice. I just hope Bethesda's personality archetypes are subtler and have more depth than BioWare's "Shiny Good / Stinky Evil / Grand Greedalox" garbage.

Todd Howard also said we'd be able to affect the economy in Skyrim by destroying the infrastructure of towns or buying and selling goods at some town but not others.

Don't believe anything you hear at this stage.

Also, what write up are you talking about? Did I miss something?

Do you know where the other options turn too? No. We just see one option. And really... You wouldn't have 'ten thousands things' to say in New Vegas or FO1 or FO2 either...I just want to say that we just see three exemples of dialogues.

that was said 6 months before QA so game was still changing at the time that statement was made. They waiting longer this time and didn't announce it until it was already done. Nothing is going to change now. The game is likely a month or 2 from going gold.

So where was it confirmed that there were 8 endings over 2 characters?

8 endings can literally mean anything. Don't get hyped up over this.

Is that second line still referring to me? If so I don't see what me pointing out what Todd said during Skyrim has to do with me fully reading the thread, but ok.

So, if this isn't confirmed, and if there are in fact 8 personalities, not 8 endings, then isn't this thread disingenuous?

Yup, the best medicine is:

Wait until the game arrives.
