Endless load screen. Crashing on save. Crashing on load. Unp

Hey,

Recently, my game has started crashing to the point where it's completely unplayable. Loading a save game on startup causes endless load screens. I browsed through the forums before making this account to find that the only solution for this seems to be starting a new game before attempting to load a previous save. Inconvenient, but at least it works nine times out of ten.

However, that isn't the main issue. Whenever I attempt to -save- a game or load -another- one, the game crashes straight to desktop. This can happen with autosaves or normal saves. Basically, I cannot play the game. And it's clearly only a recent problem too. I have over 210 hours of New Vegas clocked up on Steam and I only had the occasional bug up until now. Never a flat out game breaker like this. I have all the DLCs and the game was working fine while running them all. I'm running no mods and never have.

I know this is NOT an issue with my hardware as my computer is well able to handle NV and I've made no major changes recently. This is a massive problem with a product that I paid for and am currently unable to use to even a fraction of its potential. Completely unacceptable. Sorry if I sound like an [censored] here, but I wouldn't expect this sort of treatment with ANY product I paid money for. At least I got to play the game extensively before this situation arose. I feel really bad for all the people who have bought the Ultimate Edition recently only to realise that it DOES NOT WORK.

Have you tried verifying the game cache? Does this problem occur with all your saves?

Yeah, I even reinstalled just now and it's still happening. With every single save. The older saves seem to last longer before crashing though.

go to your saves folder and see if you have anything with the extension .tmp

if so, that file is corrupted, and you need to delete everything associated with that file name (.fos, .fos.bak, .tmp), and load a save WITHOUT the .tmp extension

Aha. There are four of those. All my most recent saves. Thank you. Do you know what causes the corruption? I'd like to avoid it in the future because I've just lost eight hours of gameplay. Not to mention that I was trying for The Courier That Broke the Bank achievement and already had two casinos done, which I'll have to start again now =/

Avoid Autosave reuse and Quicksaves.

Still happening. I deleted the .tmp saves and played for about ten minutes. Went to save a new file and the game crashed to desktop. I checked the saves folder and it had created a .tmp. I play with a controller so I don't think I even know how to quicksave.

how many saves do you have?
Alot of save games can cause problems.
Try deleting some.

I did have quite a lot but experience with Morrowind taught me against that, so I only have around ten now. Maybe I'll just start a new game altogether and hope for the best. I shouldn't -need- to hope for the best though.
