Enemies appear to glow orange?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:55 am

Just watched some footage form PAX east.. noticed something I never noticed before.. the enemies were like tinted orange. Are they normally or is this some sort of ability?

It's probably just an ability. Some vids don't show it. So who knows. hahaha

I'd read this thread on splash damage.

http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23583

It looks to be default, and a Splash moderator has said that PC can turn it off as on option, no statement as to xbox or playstation options.

The "rim lighting" also fades as people get closer to you, since you can start to tell which faction they are based on their clothing. So you only see a bright halo when the people are far enough away that it might be difficult to tell friend from foe.

Hopefully you can turn it off, seems a bit annoying at first glance.. something that will have to grow on me if not though, no biggie.

Thanks guys.

I presume this is needed as what looks like an enemy could be someone on your own team in disguise.

I thought it was if an Operative used the Comm Hack ability (interrogates an incapacitated enemy), you get to see the locations of all the baddies for 10 seconds (last I heard). Just my two cents though.

I'd assume that a disguised operative wouldn't glow.

I'd assume that the operative glows the proper color for teammates and the wrong color for enemies. Would be kinda silly if all it took to spot a disguise was to get far enough away that you could see what color he glows.

Parabellum had the same "feature" and I didn't like it back then either.

But heck, what should we do? If Splash Damage think it must be there, they will put it in. I'm fine with servers that have this option disabled.

It looks like the aura sort of fades out as you get closer. I don't think it is that big of a deal

Oh good, that means it doesn't ruin the game in situations where it doesn't matter...

Sad but true.

Hmmm ... reading that thread makes me want to sign up on the SD forums ...

believe me i will be playing on the xbox, and i have never once heard anyone complain about visibility issues, i play alot of bbc2 and after an hour of play i could get my dog to distinguish between allies and enemies. the same for counter strike, even just glimpsing a player you can tell whos team he is on, just instinctivly even when they are like 30 pixels large on screen, you can just tell, and adding the glow effect will encourage snipers, no doubt, its easy to pick off a flourecent postbox from a mile away.

He makes an excellent point right there.

Why weaken snipers on the stats, when you massively buff them in gameplay?
