Enemies on Compass

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 1:53 pm

Did I ever say I wouldn't buy the game because of this minor issue? No. Your appearance in this topic is appreciated however your comment is useless and off-topic.

That was a great reply.

However you said it ruined the game for you?

EDIT: I RP and play hardcoe [No compass, no in-game map, no fast travel, no waiting, etc.], in case you couldn't tell. I think this feature really takes away from the immersion.

Indeed. I didn't like Oblivion for the compasses. :( Though what do you mean by 'in-game-map'? Just the normal map of Cyrodil with all the cities and locations? What map did you use in Oblivion to get around then?

I can take it or leave it , no matter. I have played games with enemies on radar on some with none. Works both ways for me and doesn't upset my immersion.

I used to hate it in FO3 but not much of a problem, I won't use any HUD at all.

I should have been more specific; it ruins the immersion for me. It has no real point to it so why have it at all? Granted, I can turn it off, but the fact that it's there still irks me. Like fast travel and the wait function.

So we are discussing a "toggable" feature just because it irks you even trough you do not plan to ever see it? :spotted owl:

I think its kinda pointless too.

However, when Todd was in Todd mode his character only had the red dot when one wolf was right on top of him. There was a second wolf a few feet back to the side, clearly visible, yet no red marker for it. So I don't think these markers will be anything like fallouts, which is good IMO. It must just be there due to the smaller fov onscreen, to give us a sense of where an enemy is when there's a group surrounding us. Still, I can always turn around, which is why the marker is kind of pointless to me.

While I understand how something like that can reduce immersion, at the same time you need some way to account for lake of full sensory awareness of a PC. Enemies on a compass accomplish this.

Until they can find a way to use peripheral vision in a game, I'll stick with enemies on the compass.

ArmA II has a peripheral vision system, small red glares on the edge of the screen in the direction of enemies and green dots for friendlies, white for neutral. Pretty useful system for a milsim.

Ah sorry, that makes more sense. And i do agree with you, it does seem to make detect life less valuble and like you previously said it is annoying that we can't just turn this off without turning the compass off.

Is there a skill that determines what shows up on the compass? Or is it only creatures that have spotted you or just any hostile creature near you?

It ruins the need of a detect life spell.

A person is standing in the other room completely quiet. You shouldn't know he's there, but Dovahkiin does automatically somehow. In Morrowind/Oblivion, I'd cast detect life and see if there was one there, or sneak in and take notice, or charge in unknowingly.

if you look at the gameplay it seems to be only creatures that are in combat with you and very close

If you ever need a Detect Like spell to see a wolf right in front of you... You made a character with two blind eyes.

Maybe that is why I didn't said that you wanted me to agree with you. :spotted owl:
I said that you wanted to discuss a feature that at the same time that you dislike, you will never use it. (What is a great attitude and solves your problem with the feature)

That's actually what I've thought about for those stupid Mudcrabs at night. Detect Life Spell, perfect, bingo. :) I was gonna post it, but then read your post in which you already had.

I always wear the Grey Fox's Helmet (Forget the exact name) because of its Detect Life. I'm always scared of being ambushed/surprised in Dungeons.

This thread is so odd....Anyway, I personally am all for the compass because I find it annoying to constantly flip back and forth from the world to compass. Hopefully, like in Fallout 3, this will keep me on coarse to new places.^_^

though I hardcoe, I may have to use the compass some time and having this feature ruins the game for me.

Well, since enemies on the compass ruins the game for you, you shouldn't buy it. Yeah, that'll teach Bethesda...
