I'm glad the compass can be toggled, this is just ridiculous.
EDIT: I RP and play hardcoe [No compass, no in-game map, no fast travel, no waiting, etc.], in case you couldn't tell. I think this feature really takes away from the immersion.
While I understand how something like that can reduce immersion, at the same time you need some way to account for lake of full sensory awareness of a PC. Enemies on a compass accomplish this.
Until they can find a way to use peripheral vision in a game, I'll stick with enemies on the compass.

It also removes the need of the Detect Life spell.
Well, it seems (From the Gameplay Video, in the fight against the Giant) that those "Enemy Markers" just appears when you character probably already would see the enemy anyways.
Well, I liked it in Fallout 3 and that game is the most "immersive" (as much as I hate this word thanks to these forums ) game I've ever played. So no, I really like this feature.
Why are you complaining if you can turn it off?
Because the ability to magically know where an enemy is already exists in the form of Detect Life. It removes the need for the spell itself and removes the element of surprise. Overall it's redundant and takes away from immersion.
And we can't just turn it off without removing the entire compass. Even though I hardcoe, I may have to use the compass some time and having this feature ruins the game for me.

there is still a need because you can only see enemies that are right in your face with the markers

Well then you should probaby leave these forums, svcks that you won't be playing Skyrim due to this.
Quick Question, but can you turn this specific feature off without having to turn the whole compass off? I hate this feature but at the same time want the compass.

Goodbye.
Did I ever say I wouldn't buy the game because of this minor issue? No. Your appearance in this topic is appreciated however your comment is useless and off-topic.
I'm guessing its a close view range. I mean if you were in the REAL world you'd prolly notice alot more than you do through first person view in a video game.
