Enemies you hate the most in Daggerfall!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:47 am

So, time to get a few non-tech-support threads running... What creatures do YOU hate most in Daggerfall?

I hate spriggans, because they seem to have some sort of "immunity to arrows" ability (only explanation I can think of for a pair of the buggers to survive 30+ arrows only to be finished off by five minutes of hammering with H2H)

Zombies. Seriously, the sound they make is just creepy and a little sickening. Sure, they move faster than you'd think, hit hard, take a bit much to kill... but it's mostly the damn moan that gets me.

As far as the annoying factor, anything with paralyze. It always takes me 3-4 seconds of getting whacked on to realize why I'm not moving anymore. And harpies. Ugly-ass things, and that "caw!" is grating. I once had a harpy fall into the void--which would be fine, things usually die when that happens, but the witch could fly around out there. So that meant that I was followed around and cawed at for most of the dungeon by this stupid birdwoman who I couldn't kill. Eventually tossed myself into the void just so I could shoot her feathered butt with more arrows than it actually required.

I'm with you on Zombies. Their shriek is so creepy, and they're a lot faster and stronger than you'd expect. I also find raising his right arm like he's hitchiking to be really ugly, as well as their general appearance. They're just blarg to me.

The HALT HALT HALT guards are painful too. Especially how they appear out of nowhere. You'll steal something, turn around, and nearly void your bowels when you see one.

Classed humans.
No warning sounds. Infinite supply of arrows. Level parity (so their spells really hurt).

DF vampire ancients are pretty annoying. You enter a room and one's waiting for you just behind the door. He immediately starts slapping you upside the head with shockshockshockshockshock till you're dead. Fair enough, you walked right into it, but here's the kicker: as you slump to the floor, he does it a few more times...presumably because he sees you're in v-fib and wants to revive you just to deal out more pain before you go for good.

Definitely the halting guards. I feel like giving up just to shut them up, they must think your character is deaf or something.

I don't really mind the guards. Silent human enemies are always tough, especially since the rogue types attack very quickly.

I hate slaughterfishes, dreughs and lamias.
Since I HATE having to go underwater in a dungeon, I always fear that one of those three creatures will pop out and bite me to the death.

But the one I hate the most is the Vampire Ancient.
Their screams freak me out everytime I hear them. Once I was dungeon crawling and everything was silent. So as usual I run through the corridors and I venture myself in a long tight tunnel with a door at the end. I run through it and when I'm close to the door, it opens and I hear a vampire ancient's scream. I was literraly paralized in fear.
That's the most I saw of it since it threw me deadly spells I couldn't survive.

I never understood the Daggerfall law reputation in full. For me it doesn't return to neutral (0) after spending months out of the province who hates me.

I can also never find "The Escort". Plus some guards will go HALT HALT HALT after me and others won't. My original assumption was a crime (pickpocketing, or hitting a door) summons one guard, and the others ignore you. But I've had times where it seems a friendly guard will start shouting HALT shortly after I pass him (I know he was friendly beforehand as I stood directly within his attacking range and even talked to him).

Oh well. Climbing up on roofs and using spells/arrows on them is fun.

Fire Daedra when I first see them. I'm always amazed with how they look so I don't run away and they always appear at lower levels than I think they will. Man they look awesome.

And they project light so it's easy to see when one of them is hiding or rushing towards you. :)

Especially when you get paralized where Giants share their room with the said spider/scorpion. It transforms the mighty hero in a total weakling. :P

That's why I always pick the high elf. I love that immunity to paralysis.

I don't mind the enemy humans too much, except for that mage one. I'm not sure which it is as I don't encounter them often enough to remember what they're called upon death.

They're the scantily clad mage women who unleash a crapload of sparkles at you when in close range, that can kill you in mere moments. It's such an annoyance doing hit-and-run just to avoid giving them the opportunity to kill you.

Spider Daedra, ... wait. Crap.

I'd have to say rats or bats, not because they're hard - but their screech can be heard throughout dungeons and its bloody annoying.

No, they have the normal skin pigment, and I locate them even in the castles within the towns. The name given when they die is not "Vampire", that I know.

+1. Seriously.
I do hate skeletons though. Not hard to kill, but those unholy shrieks... how in the seven hells does a pile of bones without a larynx emit such a ghastly noise?

What's the explanation to anything completely illogical in a video game?

It's MAGIC, of course! :P

It's a robot. Even magic has transcended to the point of much nicer artificial voices.
