Yeah Sorry I mean it kinda looked like Muzzle Loading, but obviously not the same as loading a musket.

I'll be using Gauss weaponry if I can help it. I've always had a penchant for those.
I'm hoping they'll have the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gauss_pistol in game, as well as the Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics version of the Gauss rifle. I for one can't wait to see what they do to Gauss weaponry with the new crafting system.
Technically a Gauss Rifle is a Projectile weapon (and thus would come under big guns/small guns). Its simply accelerating a projectile using electromagnetism to high speeds .
They introduce the lazer musket during the Preston Garvey tutorial. So we know that you will get access to sufficient laser weapons at the very beginning of the game.
That's a bit of a stretch to conclude this early on. I'll certainly say it's a good sign though.
The "simple" part is what it does: project a physical object to high linear velocities. What makes it not fit in with Guns is the mechanics of how it does that. It uses electricity, like an energy weapon. And dealing with balky cell electrode contacts or dealing with a firearm magazine receiver not wanting to load... those are the differences between Guns and Energy Weapons operation skills, not what comes out of the barrel. Gauss rifles are a better fit in Energy Weapons.
In your opinion, do you find a practical difference between energy weapons and guns in New Vegas and FO3?
I...don't know. Guess it depends on my character's SPECIAL. If they have a pretty high Intelligence, energy weapons for sure. If not, guns.
Energy Weapons - They make less noise.
When I first played fo3,NV I used guns then later on all my playthroughs used energy weapons.
if the issue of ash and goo piles not cleaning up after a while has been solved ill give them a try.
Typically I played FO3 and NV as survival games wherein I had to scavenge ammunition and supplies. It worked much better that way with NV but neither one played with me. There were lasers and powered armor and a bunch of stuff that was anachronistic to the Post Apocalyptic setting.
Seeing the gameplay of powered armor, I've decided to embrace FO4 as a society that is recuperating from being Post Apoc. They got vertibirds and flying ships. Depending on what limits there are to using the powered armor, I am basically going to run one of my plays through as the Fallout equivalent to a space marine (Starcraft, WH 40k, take your pick). The powered armor goes everywhere and I am going to carry the very best weapons I can find. That means gatling lasers, miniguns, Fat Man launchers, whatever I can get my hands on. If they have Power Fists, that's going to be there too. Sadly, I don't think they ported the chainsaw from Doom over. I'd have that too.
Another Energy weapons enthusiast here. Traditional guns are rather boring in comparison imo.
Cant wait to make a plasma sniper
Fill your inventory with revolvers and start punishing those guys in power armor because they look like clowns.
Kill one of them, steal their weapon, and repeat.
Probably start off with guns, then pump up energy weapons as they become more available. This is assuming that energy weapons are rare like in past games,
^ This. Also, seeing a lot of piles of ash is just not as satisfying as bullet-riddled raiders. Plus, you cannot pose the ash piles into hilarious positions like you can with bodies. It can also make it hard to loot every foe if they're all ash piles (particularly on top of each other).
That said, in my most recent Fallout New Vegas playthrough I got a Recharger Rifle, I think it's called. Has seven shots, but they ~recharge~ it seems. I've seen the total drop, but not sure WHY exactly.... point is, it looks like the laser musket may be similar, in that you can just "wind it up" and get more charges. Running out of ammo on my favorite 0.308 ammo sniper rifle meant dropping back to the old hunting rifle. If I can have one weapon that I never have to worry about ammunition for, that might sway me toward energy (at least as a back up for when I run out of physical ammo for guns).
I always go energy weapons and melee my first play through; overall it usually seems that reg guns are more plentiful, useful, etc, especially at the beginning, but the most powerful weapons in both Fallout 3 and NV were energy weapons, and their aesthetic always went better with power armor.
While I love energy weapons, the persistent ash and goo piles has always annoyed me. If they have fixed that, then I will definitely be using energy weapons
Depends on if they fixed the ash/goo pile bug yet.
