Engineer cutomization opinons

Post » Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:15 pm

I know that this game is ment to give you options with your character customization, but in my opinion the classes will usually share a common build. For example, ops will probably use a light build. Medics I believe would use a medium build. And soldiers would probably be heavy. But I would wonder what build an engineer might use in general.

Well I can't speak for the world, but I'd use a light for engineer so I could place my turret in high places. Medium would work as well.

I didn't think about the positioning of the turrets, I actually thought heavy so that one would be able to defend there turret. On that note the turret itself is made for defense so one has to think about that also.

What about a heavy operative getting an ememy uniform then going behind the lines with a minigun or AGL (he'd have to be lucky but I'd love to see it) Light soldiers flanking and blowing up stuff with charges, heavy medics right on the front lines giving out health buffs and heals, light engineers dropping mines on the flanking routes. There is a use for most class/body-type combos.

I can think of reasons to use any combination of class and bodytype, so I find it hard to give any reasonable answer. If you wanted to be a defensive engineer, heavy would probably be your best match. For an offensive engineer, light would be more up your alley, being able to rush forward and place turrets and mines to hassle the enemy. Medium, as always, would be the middle-ground between the two.

As a balanced bodytype, I think most players will end up sticking with medium no matter what class they use, and especially if they focus on multiple classes with one character.

Any class any character there are no exclusives.

Heavy ops have plenty of good uses.

This.

Every body type has its advantages and disadvantages for each class.
Light engineers are good to rush certain objectives or to use flank routes to get to it. Heavy engineers can place landmines on the frontlines, buff people's weapon there etc. Medium is a balance between to 2, allowing for a balanced gameplay.

Remember, not all abilities are released yet, so maybe some crazy ability will work out better for certain body types. Never underestimate the creativeness of some people.

I love the fact that certain classes wont exclusively use one body type. It has the potential to add a seemingly endless amount of depth to this game considering there are a lot of things we still haven't see in Brink. I just really hope splash damage is successful in balancing all the classes and body types to take advantage of the awesome concept and potential. It is reasonable to say that there will be some cookie cutter builds, heavy soldier, medium medic/engie, light operative, etc, but as previous posters mentioned above, there are tons of combinations and reasons to mix it up a bit. For instance, some people may be better at a heavy operative than a light one for whatever reason. The notion that a heavy operative may actually be a viable build in Brink makes the wait until spring 2011 seem soooooo looooooong.

I think you put it perfectly. I completely agree with you, if a player wants to play more of letting the enemy come to him he should be heavier and a player that wants to take the fight to the enemy will be lighter leaving medium as a balance. I hadn't thought of that.

I could see a heavy Op on the front line.

when the squad kills someone, he can then "put up a UAV" (shameless cod reference) by investigating the body ( I believe the renamed it from Interrogation haha)
He can play dead, so people will think they just killed the big assault or w/e, pop-up behind the enemy, kill a guy, steal his outfit..... kill moar

You can change kits in match, but not body type. So I could see a heavy assault using the Op kit that way a couple times in a match. It would make em paranoid too haha

Unfortunately, I don't think I can answer the best body type question until I get to see the pro's and con's of each. I don't believe that all the body types were open to play at Euro-gamer. (can't say for sure due to not being there) Allow me to use a MAG reference (sorry, I hear some of you moaning), originally the light armors had speed, mobility and increased load-out room while the heavy armor lacked that but made up for it in damage protection.. Several updates later there is no difference in speed or mobility it's now just about how much equipment you have room for.

While I have much higher expectations for Brink, I will still have to wait until I get to try out each body type before I jump on the "HULK SMASH" Heavy bandwagon or the "Knuckle Draggers Drool, Lights Rule" bullet train..

The good news Spring is now one day closer..

Weapons are based on bodytype, so there are Heavy, Medium, Light, and Sidearm weapons. Each bodytype is able to carry one weapon from their bodytype and one lesser weapon. So a Light player is stuck with a light weapon and a sidearm, a heavy can use a heavy weapon and a medium weapon.

SMART movement and speed are also based on bodytype, lights are able to move the fastest and get the highest, being able to reach ledges 15 feet (5m) up, medium players can climb anything at eye level, and heavy players are restricted to waist height, and move the slowest.

The final difference between the body types is health and skill points (these are used up by skills and slowly regenerate), lights have less of both, heavys have more.

Think I'd go light or medium. Place turret it tactical spots n defend it well, be speedy enough to drop mines in enemy territories.
