Engineer MVC?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:45 am

So I was watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Hj5f8-wNPA&feature=channel_video_title & I noticed the Engineer does a lot of things for the team.

1. Repairs bomb & operates bomb defusing robot
2. Reverses hacks
3. Removes planted charges.
4. Deploy Mines
5. Disarm mines
6. Buff weapons
7. Repair objectives

Medics
1. Heal
2. Revive

Soldiers
1. Plant charges
2. Resupply ammo
? Throw molotovs

Operatives
1. Hack
2. Disguise
3. Spot mines

I thought it would be fair to list all the information it gave on the classes.

I feel like everyone's going to have to rely on Engineers to get objectives done.

Any thoughts?

There are tons more uses for the other classes, even in the video.

I think you going to need every one on the team and that not only Engineers will get objectives done. And i want to be and Engineer/Medic. I voted all of them

i went with engineer (my fav) and medic, i think they are the major support role. and yes you can win without them but with the it makes the soldiers and ops jobs a lot easier :)

For example, medics also do speed boosts, soldiers can buff ammo along with resupplying and ops can firewall command posts.

Not to mention the Medic's adrenaline ability which makes a teammate invincible for a short period of time, however at the end of the time the teammate takes all the damage he took earlier in a second. But then again the medic can then rez him after.

That is true..

I didnt mention later abilities.

But my main point is that it seems like the Engineers have the most purposes.

Exactly. Engineer is mainly a support class, but unlike Medics their support comes in the form of building, repairing, and defusing things. It's not overpowered in the slightest.

What people may not realize is that Soldiers have a lot of things they can be blowing up, and on top of that they are also mobile ammo boxes. Medics have the whole healing and reviving thing, which should keep them plenty busy. And Operatives have a multitude of ways in which they work with and against the other classes. Plenty of things to hack, plenty of dead bodies to get radar and disguises from, plenty of things you could be EMP'ing, etc.

Like I said in that other thread, all of the classes have a lot of things that they can do to help their team. The Engineer's way of being helpful just so happens to involve more objective-based interactions. I don't think it's imbalanced at all.

Hmmm... I think at first glance, you would think Engineers have a lot, but I think the other classes have a lot, too, once you think more deeply about it.

I think the Engineer and Operative are going to have quite a back-and-forth battle, though, lol. :D

I honestly think, if ANY class is more "valuable" to a team than the others, it's the Medic.

Healing, buffing health, speed boosts, temporary invulnerability, reviving incapped allies, self revive, Lazarus Grenade...

A good team, with a couple of good Medics will almost never have to worry about running back from the spawn point - and having all your guns on the frontline for the whole match is a pretty big advantage.

Temporary invulnerability? I've never heard of this, is it possible that I missed them in the Bible?

The Adrenaline ability makes the target invulnerable for a few seconds, but afterwards they take all the damage they were hit with.

Speed boosts are true, they were in some video, I hope someone else can link them because I can't remember which.

OT: Engineers are the most "supporty" class to me, operatives go off and do their objectives in little operative squads to benefit the whole team shooting people they see along the way. The soldiers are busy at the front lines blowing things up and shooting people between him and his objective, medics will be busy healing up at the front lines and laying down suppressive fire while healing. Engineers to me are more of a non confrontation class that fortifies and defends, placing mines, repairing command posts, and deploying turrets. None of which require personally defeating many enemies besides the occasional operative trying to sabotage your command posts.
Even though your class doesn't "strictly define" your role, that's just how I see it.

Ah, I see. That is how I saw about it, too. And, don't forget about, um, what was it called?----hacking(?)/disarming(?), other people's----Soldier and Operative's device stuff, too? So, they can also go to the enemy's side (and shoot people on the way, lol) to get those hacking?/disarming? objectives or whatever.

BTW, I voted for ALL of the classes. ^_^ They all have their roles.

Me too.

IF any class WAS more valuable, though, I think it'd be the Medic.

your list is a gross oversimplification of the other classes...

I don't think there is one class that I would consider the MV, you need a well rounded group to succeed

in BRINK no class is an island.... or something like that

In every game I play the engineer is the role that makes the entire team tick, he tends to not be combat oriented and is often unnoticed. When there is a lack of work done however the team becomes an uproar and collapses.
So while people may not thank us, we all secretly know that without us they'd be nothing :mohawk:

Simply there is no best class. You will need all of them to build an effective team.

Engi's have always been important in SD games. They can do the most amount of different things, while others are doing the same things over and over again. Having a light engineer will be key in a lot of cases. Engi's tend to do a fewer amount of objectives (healing and dropping ammo is more consistent than Defusing a hacking device) but they're generally rewarded more for one action.

This.

Medics will be the most appreciated for keeping you in the fight, obviously, but Soldiers and Engineers will make sure you are most capable of winning said fight with special ammo and weapon upgrades, respectively, while the Operative is off making sure that the enemy won't be at his most capable state.
