So they'd have to make new engraved versions of each weapon?

Games like Guitar Hero and customising car games allow you to add stickers, and text as a decal over textures. That's all you need, maybe with a bump map also.

But I think people will just have their own names or phaluses over their sword.

This would absolutely be cool. Infact enchanting a weapon should engrave it with a rune that stood for whichever element you enchanted it with. It shouldn't be that hard, just specify the rune area of a weapon and and use the same technolgy they use for scars ect. to place a bumpmap with some glow

Yeah I would like engraving. But no, it has not been mentioned or confirmed. Here's hoping!

Of course not, the engraving itself could be handled by something like a decal. The engraved texture could be generated from an edge-detected scene to allow a huge number of possible engravings.

Hope Bethesda reads this. It would be a shame if a feature like this is not there, not because it's difficulte to do but because it's overlooked...

Engraving into your weapon is a great idea. And I don't think it would take long for Bethesda to implement into the game. Here's to hoping it's in. :foodndrink:

Sounds pretty cool to me. I could engrave my weapon with the names of each NPC I've murdered.

i think there was already a post on this

on topic i do like the idea ^_^ could be interesting like some NPC wants to buy a weapon you make and asks for an engraving or maybe you can engrave the Incantation for a dragon shout to give the sword or other weapon an extra kick. 100% support bro

This is something I've been long hoping for. I'd love to cover my staffs with daedric runes that glow red, or place cool glowing thingies on my armor.

I think that the best way to implement this would be to make it so that you can engrave enchantments onto your items, so if you are enchanting the item, it would allow you to place the runes where you want or whatever.
