Enhanced PC Key Bindings..

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:47 pm

Hi PC users,

Is anyone else frustrated that we can only key bind to 1-8 when we have an entire damn key board to use? There are so many keys that aren't used at all that I would really like to bind to spells and equipment but can't with the current build.

Has there been mods in the past that let you enhance your key bindings and use the full keyboard?

On top of that, is it possible (with mod) to bind more than 1 item to a key, for example:

I want one key to bind all my Fortify Destro equipment (ring, necklace, helmet, etc..) then I want another key to re-equip all my Magicka Regeneration equipment. That way I could switch to the ideal equipment while casting and make even further use of my enchanted equipment.

P.S. Definitely got this idea from my FFXI days... players would bind like 7 items to a single key to switch for specific battle situations or depending on what spell they were using. Anyone remember this?

Would like to hear from other modders of past TES games, has this kind of enchanced key binding been implemented before?

Just buy a gaming keyboard and stop worrying about mods to fix this problem for you. I don't even think about keybinds because my keyboard does it for me and it 5 years old. Time to upgrade that old controller of yours. It is the 21st century and your keyboard sounds like a basic 1970's keyboard.

I've never used a gaming keyboard (no my keyboard isn't from 1970's [censored]) so I don't see how the extra keys are gonna solve this problem. The game will still only allow me to bind 8 items/spells from my favorites menu, so I don't see a way of solving this with a fancy keyboard and the current key binding mechanics.

Anyone else?

If you look at a pic of a Commodore 64, you probably can see your keyboard. OH sure it was made more recently but the concept is the same.

The gaming keyboard allows you to use your quick menu to use abilities without having to rely on the keybinds. Sorry you aren't aware of this.

Both fallout and oblivion had this same limitation.

These commands are hard coded limitations designed for the consoles.

I think for what you want, if similar to Fallout, you would need to wait for Bethesda to release a "Script editor" and then wait for modders to make a mod that lets your map anything to any key.

The g15 can create 54 macros

You need the GUID for your abilties/commands. This is the best way. I am sure Logitech users are already releasing txt files you can just download.

The poor way to do it is to have it go through the commands you would have to press. Like "Q", the Down, down, Down, Enter. Mostly because the Quick bar is always changing.

If you want to learn how just look up some tutorials on the fallout pages on how to create your own macros. Then just get the GUID of the Skyrim commands and make your own.

Edit: They will be releasing an Script editor. Took about a month for Fallout.

Sounds like I'll just have to wait for this script editor to release. I'm pretty sure that's what I was thinking of, you write the scripts out of the game then use them in-game to perform many actions with 1 key.

Thanks everyone.

Just fyi, there was at least one mod like that for FO3, although it was a bit wonky for me. Such mods often have conflicts with other mods, so be aware of the possibility in advance.
