[RELz, BETA] Enhanced Music Control

Post » Sun Mar 14, 2010 1:12 pm

Yeah I know, and I am. I've got it covered. ;)

Are you using the OBSE loader for the CS? I think the correct shortcut is "obse_loader.exe -editor". I normally launch the CS from Wrye Bash, so I don't know for sure.
You probably know this, but if not, you do now. Scripts with OBSE functions and commands will not save in the CS unless the loader is used.

You're gonna have trouble with the fact that you could have several wolfen scripts trying to change the music all at once. If one wolfen dies, the battle music will revert, but you'll still be fighting wolfen, so it won't work the way you expect. Also, why do you have two emcCreatePlaylist commands? If any one executes, the playlist is created, irregardless of if its in a conditional or not. As long as it returns 1, anyways.

This is weird. I don't know if its a bug or not

I was deleting all of the mp3 in my oblivion music folder except the Special folder.
Started a new game with Enhanced Music Control
Then it crash
But whenever there's music in the oblivion music folder, it doesn't crash

It probably would crash... I haven't error trapped it for that case, I don't think.

I spent a long time and finally pinpointed the stuttering in the game is caused from EnhancedMusicControl.dll in the Data\OBSE\Plugin directory. Once I remove the file, all stutter gone. I verified it a couple times by placing the file in the plugin folder and removing it. Whenever, the file is in the plugin folder, I get stuttering. When removed, the game is smooth as butter. The best way to see this is by pressing tab and go into the character inventory menu where you see your character swaying around in 3D, you can see how jerky the motion is with EnhancedMusicControl.dll enabled. It's a shame as I really like what this mod does to the music control. I hope this gets fixed.

Btw, I have an E8400@4.0ghz and EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 superclocked and am using OBSE v16.

I just gave the plugin a try... and stopped right at the main menu.

0.70 - Title music filename should now be lifted from the INI file.

Since the oldest downloadable version at TesNexus is 0.71, I couldn't go back as far 0.7, but in all downloadable variants it comes up with the standard title music.
Using the latest OBSE 0017b.

I'll be giving it a look at how it performs with the rest later.

Hi,

I'm also getting these stutter problems with Enhanced Music Control. When music is playing, the game "pauses" for very brief moment every 2 seconds or so. Also, FPS in general is reduced. I would really like a solution for this, especially with Better Music System and Immersive Combat Music around...

Interestingly, when I'm playing with music enabled, but without Enhanced Music Control loaded, there are no stutter or FPS problems.

There have been several suggestions of bad audio codecs causing this problem, so I have been experimenting a little bit with them. Disabled ffdshow for oblivion.exe and obse_loader.exe: no difference. I'm going to try and reset all codecs using the codec reset tool here: http://nightmare2013.brashendeavors.net/ to see if it will make a difference.

I can't post dxdiag info at this moment, but I can say that I'm running Oblivion on a laptop with an on-board soundchip. That may be the cause of the problem, but then again, enabling music without Enhanced Music Control gives no stutters.

Running with OBSE 18b4.

Anyone here that can report on fixes for this problem?

Thanks,
Doomguy

Uninstalling codecs fixed the stutter problem for me. I was using the Shark007 codec pack for Windows 7, though I remember having the same problem when I used this mod with CCCP and XP. My sound card is an Audigy SE, for what that's worth. Download http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=CCCP_Insurgent and do a test render on any mp3 file. If you don't have any third-party mp3 codecs all you should see is quartz.dll, which is Microsoft's codec.

Hi,

I ran CCCP Insurgent after I uninstalled K-lite codec pack, and ran Nightmare2013's codec reset tool. Here's what I get for an MP3 file with test render:

File: C:\Games\Oblivion\Data\Music\Battle\[Battle] Legion's Rally.mp3

Filter 0: Default DirectSound DeviceFilename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dllFilter CRC: 8C902BFFDate: 2009-06-03 | 21:09:37Filter 1: MPEG Layer-3 DecoderFilename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codecx.axFilter CRC: 73C33639Date: 2004-08-04 | 10:00:00Filter 2: MPEG-I Stream SplitterFilename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dllFilter CRC: 8C902BFFDate: 2009-06-03 | 21:09:37Filter 3: C:\Games\Oblivion\Data\Music\Battle\[Battle] Legion's Rally.mp3Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dllFilter CRC: 8C902BFFDate: 2009-06-03 | 21:09:37

As you can see, there's more than just quartz.dll being used, like C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codecx.ax. Are you saying that file may be causing a problem?

Thanks so far!

It looks like I was wrong. For one thing, l3codecx.ax is another Microsoft file. I reinstalled ffdshow but left mp3 files disabled in its audio config, and I still have the stutter problem even though ffdshow doesn't show up in the test render. Just the fact that another codec is installed is causing the stutter. I'm inclined to believe EMC is the problem, not codecs.

I'm seeing the same thing... with ffdshow installed, but Oblivion.exe excluded from its users, the stutter is still there. Uninstalling ffdshow completely improves the situation a lot (but that can be undesirable for lots of other applications).

Hello,

Just wondering, has anyone been able to fix the stuttering problem? I really would like to this mod (and BetterMusicSystem), but tried to remove klite/ffdshow and the problem remains.. stuttering ever 2 or so seconds. Im not very keen on overwriting my registry with directshowfiltersreset, since I use XP SP3 and it seems the program is older than that.

Thanks

It seems that EMC doesn't work with my soundchip and Windows 7. I have a Realtek onboard audio chip and as soon as the game loads, it crashes.

I am not using any codec pack.

I can confirm it well. Without CCCP installed (and nothing else) EMC works perfect and does not cause any stuttering. With CCCP installed I get alot of stuttering, regardless of which setting is on or off.

The strange thing is I never had that much problems with using EMC and my installed codecs, only after upgrading Vista to SP2 did the stuttering begin. Atleast, that's what I suspect. You see, at the time I upgraded to SP2 I wasn't playing or modding Oblivion so I didn't notice it right away. But when I came back to test a mod a bit I suddenly had great stuttering (and even more when in dialogue) and I couldn't think of anything else I might have changed.

Although I would have loved to continue to use EMC, with my current play/mod ratio I'd rather have good performance for those brief moments I run the game than the benefits of immersive music handling. :( Still, EMC is a great mod (or resource?) and I've used it for a long time without problems. :)

I know there must be a good reason for me to have thought the problem was codecs before, but right now I have EMC working with CCCP installed, without the characteristic stutter. I had to disable Creative ALchemy for Oblivion, though, so no hardware acceleration. I noticed error messages in dsound.log when I ran the game with EMC, so I guess EMC's hook interferes with either ALchemy or any kind of acceleration. I don't know if this was the problem all along or what, I'm just glad it's working.

Nevermind, the issue was some Logitech G15 LCD mod that I somehow forgot that I had installed. Mod works great :)
