Enhanced torch mods?

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 12:27 am

I have just started playing on a new Oblivion/FCOM install and I'm using Let There Be Darkness. I like dark dungeons but this is a bit TOO dark, the vanilla torches hardly cast any light and I got pretty lost just navigating the tutorial dungeon which I've done about hundred times before.

I was just wondering if there are any mods that extend the light radius on torches? A search has turned up one that does but it also removes the flicker effect which I quite like. I am totally unschooled in modding so I don't know if there might be an easy way to adjust the setting in the ini file or something? Any info would be really helpful.

Thanks.

ROM DLT
SM's OBSE DLT

I think there is an ini entry for torch radius / intensity if not in the DLT version ini's.

Didn't Psymon report that this caused save game bloating? Or am i mistaken?

I said I use Kuertee's Clean Up so it doesn't matter to me.

It is all preference, and my preference is more realistic behavior.

IIRC, there is an optional esp called Brighter Torches in Natural Environments 2.1.3 and 2.1.4

It probably causes one lingering torch reference in your savegame for each time a torch is dropped - but that amount of bloat can be ignored, unless you drop torches 1000 times during a character's lifetime...

In that case, you might want to take a look at wrinklyninja's new http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35099 It is not quite a dark as Let There Be Darkness, on my monitor.

Isn't the OP simply looking for a mod that increases the light radius of torches and not for a 'drop lit torches' mod? I've quickly made an esp that increases the radius from 768 units to 1280 units. I also doubled the torch lifetime since I think it's annoying when torches go out all the time (and since they can be found everywhere, have a value of 0 and are 0 weight items it's not really a cheat either). http://www.mediafire.com/?7u08lxvm52ictxr

I'm not sure how well this works in combination with a DLT mod though, I think OOO (part of FCOM) has a mod built in and it might put a script on the torches. Not sure about that though.

Just looked at SM's OBSE DLT readme again and I was right (if you want to use that mod):

The Ini is an optional feature but allows you to make other changes like changing the hotkey,
forcing torches gold, weight and light radius to whatever you desire, or completly disabling
the hotkey torch.

Thanks for the replies guys. Very useful! Yeah OOO and therefore FCOM already has DLT.

I think I have sorted out my own light. Now I'm after something for NPCs. Let There Be Darkness seems to remove all light that doesn't have a 'real' source ie ambient light? So caves without candles are totally black. That's cool, but it's a bit ridiculous going into a cave full of bandits who are all standing around talking in total darkness :P I have found a mod called 'Dungeon Actors have Torches' but that only affects enemy NPCs, and only gives them a 75% chance of having one (seems to me that anyone in a totally dark cave would have a torch). Does anyone know of any mods that give all (non-monster) NPCs in dark places torches? I am at a pretty major disadvantage when I'm the only person lit up in a pitch black cave full of enemies.

@Pseron Wyrd thanks for the suggestion I will give that mod a go, might solve my problem.
