[RELZ] Enhanced Weather

Post » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:38 am

Thanks for the update.

If I understand correctly, the new value about darkening/not darkening the sky along with the ambient values - if set to 0 the sky will be brighter and not be affected by the screeneffects changes as much?

Yes, you are correct.

After installing the latest version, I noticed that I couldn't see the starts at night. Someone pointed out that there was an INI setting to disable the sky darkening. Although I can now see the stars, there is now a ring of light around the edges of the sky. I guess that has to do with the sky still being lighted. Could a setting be added that only darkens the sky enough to get rid of the ring of light without fading out the stars as well? I like to use really dark nights (80+% or Original) so looking up a bit and seeing a light sky has a pretty jarring effect, but seeing the moon and no stars is worse. For now I'll leave the sky darkening disabled. I have a few screenshots of this sky that I can upload.

Thanks for all of the updates!
- Tomlong75210

I am also having the brighter ring when using about 50% darker nights and the "not darkened" sky setting.

I'm convinced it's a trade off, you either get darker skies or you get the ring.

Personally, I like my brighter night skies and can deal with the slight horizon banding.

Yes, I use Normalize night ambient.

And actually, I just remembered I'm also using a stars texture replacer, I think it's Real Night Sky v2.

But my stars are still brighter than what is shown in the above poster's pics. (Even with 50% darker nights I can still see stars, they're not completely obscured, just dimmer)

And I only get the horizon banding during cloudy days, on a clear or stormy night the texture blends pretty seamlessly with the horizon with the "no night sky darkening" option enabled.

I'm pretty satisfied with the added option, the banding only appears on foggy/cloudy weather which I figure is acceptable trade off to have for nice starry clear nights.

@CorePC: When I enable the sky darkening option, I can't see the stars.

@DarkDragon: I always have the band of light unless the weather is stormy (and I don't know about fog.) I'm using Real Night Sky as well, so that is kind of odd...

With EW134 and 80% darkner nights, I could still see the stars. The only update I have made is going from EW134 to EW135. On another note, I probably should have uploaded an EW134 picture when I wasn't using Night-eye. Maybe I should take a look through my screen shots...

Yes, the banding is a trade-off unfortunately. I can have a look at the colour values for the stormy weathers, as they seem to not get banding, and then try to do something similar with the other weathers. I'm not sure if any changes are possible though.

I've just had a weird 'issue' (latest version of EW, OBSE 0017a). I opened the console to take a screenshot, and I noticed that the console buffer was full of error messages from one of the EW scripts - the script in question is EWETSIScript, and it was reporting errors on the ForEach, [ and <- statements. Now, I'm assuming from the 'SI' in the script's name that it only applies to SI weather - but I was in the vicinity of Vilverin/Sideways Cave at the time. I returned to the IC and saved, then reloaded, and haven't seen any of these errors crop up in the console since. I hadn't seen any of these errors in the console previously, for that matter. So it's probably something funny going on my end - I just thought I'd mention it in case there is a syntax problem with that script (I'm not familiar with OBSE scripting).

Eloise

OK, I'll take a look at the script. Thanks. :)

Have you made a patch for Elyswer Yet?

No, I'll probably need a better GetCurrentClimate to do that, but I haven't looked into it. I'll need to download the mod. Is it freely available for download, and if so, where?

Since there isn't much point in making a new thread...

Does anyone else have a problem with screeneffects? When its active in my mod list, after everything loads...suddenly I lose ALL my textures, except the UI. But all the graphics suddenly turn graish white, and I can't see anything. I fix it by deactivating it...but I guess to use Enhanced Seasons I need screeneffects? I deactivated that too, since I'm pretty sure I can't use it with out that problem mod.

might be a compatibility issue too? I use darker dungeons, enhanced weather darker nights 50%, storms and sounds, rainbows, windows lighting system, alive waters and qarl 3 texture pack redimized. Only graphical mods I use...oh and had another one that enhances vegetation, forgot name of it though. It doesn't have an esp though, was just a texture folder.

Check that you don't have any values set at zero in your EnhancedWeather.ini, that could cause your grey screen. Also check if it happens with only the ScreenEffects.esm loaded, and not EnhancedWeather - Enhanced Seasons.esp.

Seems kind of funny right now. Rains in the desert almost every day. Even snowed a few times. :P

OK, I've uploaded the WillieSea's Haunted House patch to TES Nexus. I should have a patch for RTT made soon.

I've got a fix for the fast weather made, but I still need to test it.

I'll get on and take a look at Elseweyr too.

Question, not sure if possible, do not think it would be..

To get fog to not show up when underwater when weather is changing, and only appear above the surface..

Has I have been spending alot of time underwater lately testing fishes out..And notice that when weather is changing fog is placed underwater itself..

Not sure if anythig could be done about that or anyway to tell weather to only be above certain height and still work, while being underwater?

Excellent, I have been putting off any extended trips to Elsewyr until a patch for EW is made, so that I can experience the dust storms and stuff Elsewyr has to offer. :)

I've uploaded the 1.3.6 Patch, and a patch for Ruined Tail's Tale, to TES Nexus. Get 'em while they're hot!

For those experiencing crashes with RTT and EW, I can't see why that would be due to EW's interference. EW does have the potential to interfere, if the timings of the weather script coincide with your place in the RTT questline, but it's no reason to cause CTDs.

That said, it does apparently happen, so if it does, ditch whatever causes the crash.

Anyways, on to Elsewyr!

I do not do any texturing, so when I tried to "brighten the sky" the black part lightened as well. I would love to learn how to brighten the starts in Real Night Sky if someone could give me some pointers. Otherwise, I am thinking about Better Nightsky, but it does not replace the star textures. Will the sky darkening option blot out some of the vanilla stars (as I would prefer?) I'll try the Fire & Ice stars. (The moons kinda jump out at me too much.)

OK, I had a look at Elsweyr in TES4Edit, and the CS, and it applies its weathers though the vanilla region system. This means that I've got two options:

1. I can box off the entire Elsweyr area so that EW won't do anything if you're inside that invisible box. This will mean that I'll end up turning off EW in bits of Cyrodiil too, but hopefully not too much to be noticeable.

2. I can wait for OBSE v0018 and use GetCurrentRegions to detect when the player is in a region that the Elsweyr mod uses to control the weather, and switch off the EW weather script when they are.

I think what I will do is make a patch using 1. first, and then when the next version of OBSE is released, I can update the patch for that.

EDIT: Although, EW and Elsweyr don't require OBSE, so I don't like making patches that require other stuff too. I'll just have to do really accurate box region detection.

Double post, but a quick update here:

Kane's Haunted House Patch: Not possible. I can't patch for this mod, but it shouldn't really be an issue, as Kane's done his work in a good way that should prevent EW from messing things up.

Elsweyr Patch: Since I've decided to box off the whole region, so that the patch does not require OBSE, this is going to take a while for me to do, as I've got to go in-game and get the coordinates for lots of boxes to surround Elsweyr with without cutting off bits of Cyrodiil too.

Bright Horizons/Darker Sky: I've figured out how to fix the bright horizons once and for all. It turns out that I needed to scale the horizon brightness by a different factor compared to all the other colours. I've done this, and now there is no horizon banding at any darkness level.

The DarkerSky toggle was introduced as my previous attempt to get rid of horizon banding caused the sky to darken as well, and people didn't like this. So I gave two options: Either you could have no banding, and a darker sky, or you could have a nice bright sky and banding. Now though, I've managed to get rid of the banding without causing the sky to darken too, and I think that the night sky now looks great.

My question to all you EN users is this: Do any of you prefer having dim, dark stars over the normal brightness ones? Because if no-one does prefer them, then I can just get rid of the DarkerSky toggle for good.

Please feel free to post your thoughts on this. I shall also be asking this question in the All Natural thread, though I will treat the results independantly, they are two separate mods after all.

Make no difference to me, has my star textures are already bright enough.

But what about those that do not use star textures? Do you have a pic I think that would help..

Thanks for fixing the banding by the way..

I'll get comparison pics of as it is right now, and with my fix, with and without DarkerSky enabled, uploaded as soon as I can.

Here they are:

The nights are dark, so it may be hard to see, but they show the effect the best.

That is big difference, in the first pic you can see the horizon and in the second with fixed horizons you cannot..

where they taken at the same time or slight variance on them..I use a custom setting for my darker nights this somewhere like 25% of vanilla nights..So if too dark then I can just turn that option off ..

But see what other say, 1.36 with fixed horizons (no banding correct)..for me..

As for Elsewyr I'll be happy with treating that section of the worldspace like Oblivion worldspaces (that is, shutting off EW while inside) until a better option (or maybe enhanced weathers specifically made for elsewyr? :P) can be found.

The night sky fixes look great. I agree with the sentiments posted above, the no banding, but brighter stars looks great.

Actually, I think I might have Corepc's Vibrant Textures installed. So it'll be from that.

Where are those? I can't believe that is with DarkerSky disabled...my sky looks purplish (instead of being more blackish) with "Real Night Sky 2." I took out ScreenEffect as a possible source of interior/exterior transition crashes, and I really miss Enhance Seasons. The effect was really nice.

Edit: Are there "High resolution" textures for 1.3.X versions?

I got the weather textures from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18677. The file is 'Vibrant Weather Textures', but I'm not actually sure if it replaces the night sky too. I think it does though.

I've never used any night sky texture replacers other than Corepc's, so I don't know about Real Night Sky 2, it could just be purplish to begin with though.

The Hi-Rez Textures available from the EW TES Nexus page can be used with 1.3.x versions.
