Enhanced Weather
by HTF
Version 1.4.1

Enhanced Weather is the next generation of photorealistic weather mods. Unlike most other such mods available, it merely adds to, instead of replacing, Oblivion's default weather system, resulting in a seamless blend of both vanilla and new weathers, as well as some unique features.

Enhanced Weather has been coded from the ground up to give a more immersive and life-like weather system, and much of its work is invisible, making sure that the weather 'just feels right'. With it, there is little in the game weather-wise that feels jarring or wrong, and the weather acts as it does in the real world: you can get long spells of hot weather with showers in between or changeable weather that can't make up its mind or just plain nice weather that is nice to relax in.

Enhanced Weather has many new and unique features designed with the user in mind. These include a light weight seasonal weather script, photorealistic textures, around 30 new perfected weathers, and user customisable night luminance levels, be it darker or brighter, without the need for separate plugins.

=======================================================================
2. Installation
=======================================================================

Using Oblivion Mod Manager:

1. Create the omod in OBMM using the provided omod conversion data.

Using Wrye Bash:

1. Move the archive to your Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion Mods\Bash Installers\ folder.
2. Open up Wyre Bash and click on the Installers tab. Select the Enhanced Weather package.
3. Select which sub-folders you wish to install. The '00 Core' subfolder is required, as is one of the '01' subfolders.
The subfolders '02' to '05' are optional. Remember to only select one subfolder of each number.
4. Right click the Enhanced Weather package in the packages list, and click 'Install' so that the archive is selected with a plus '+'.
5. Activate the plugins you installed in the Mods tab of Wyre Bash.

Manual Install:

1. Copy all the files from the '00 Core' subfolder and one of the '01' subfolders to your Oblivion/Data directory.
2. Copy any other plugins from their directories to the Oblivion/Data directory. Make sure that you only use one plugin from the '02' directories.
3. Activate the desired plugins.

To safely upgrade Enhanced Weather, or to switch from another weather mod, follow these instructions:

1. Open the console and type in "fw 38EEE" (without quotes). This will change the weather to 'Clear'.
2. Enter an interior, wait three days in game and save in a new slot.
3. Uninstall old version/the other weather mod.
4. Load, then save in a 2nd new slot.
5. Install Enhanced Weather 1.4.
6. Load, then save in a 3rd new slot.

=======================================================================
3. Uninstallation
=======================================================================

To safely uninstall Enhanced Weather, follow these instructions:

1. Open the console and type in "fw 38EEE" (without quotes). This will change the weather to 'Clear'.
2. Immediately save in a new slot and exit.
3. Uninstall Enhanced Weather's files. These are 'EnhancedWeather.esm', 'EnhancedWeather.esp', 'EnhancedWeather.bsa', 'EnhancedWeather.ini', and any patches you might have installed.
4. Load, then save in a 2nd new slot.

=======================================================================
4. Swapping Between Plugins
=======================================================================

In order to safely swap between the Tamriel, Shivering Isles and Tamriel + Shivering Isles options, the user must use the following procedure:

1. With your current plugin active, load a save game.
2. Open the console and enter the relevant command(s) without quotes:

If your current plugin affects Tamriel:
"StopQuest EWWeatherQuest"

If your current plugin affects the Shivering Isles:
"StopQuest EWSIWeatherQuest"

3. Save and exit. Swap your current plugin for the desired plugin.
4. Load, then open the console and enter the relevant command(s) without quotes:

If your new plugin affects Tamriel:
"StartQuest EWWeatherQuest"

If your new plugin affects the Shivering Isles:
"StartQuest EWSIWeatherQuest"

5. Enjoy.

Alternatively, you can use the upgrade procedure outlined in the Installation section above to 'upgrade' to the desired plugin.

=======================================================================
5. Optional Plugins
=======================================================================

Enhanced Weather comes with two optional plugins that users can choose from to suit their needs. They are:

EnhancedWeather - Darker Nights, 50.esp: Makes the nights in Tamriel 50% darker than in vanilla Oblivion. Does not affect SI.

EnhancedWeather - Darker Nights, 80.esp: Makes the nights in Tamriel 80% darker than in vanilla Oblivion. Does not affect SI.

There are also patches included for a few mods:

Enhanced Weather - Haunted House (WillieSea) Patch.esp: This patch allows you to use Enhanced Weather and still experience the stormy weather that WillieSea intended as you approach his haunted house.

Enhanced Weather - Ruined Tail's Tale Patch.esp: This patch allows you to use Enhanced Weather and still experience the weather that Simyaz intended at certain points in his quest.

Enhanced Weather - Across-The-Borders Mods Patch.esp: Patch for EW and any mod that adds stuff beyond Cyrodiil's borders and wants to control the weather there, eg. Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina.

=======================================================================
6. Optional Features
=======================================================================

Enhanced Weather's optional features all require OBSE v18, which can be downloaded at 'http://obse.silverlock.org/' (without quotes). They can all be customised in the EnhancedWeather.ini file. Instructions can be found in the ini file.

All the features can be applied to both Tamriel and the Shivering Isles. The features are explained below:

Enhanced Nights enables the user to set their own night luminance levels quickly and easily.

Enhanced Weather can also set your weather to be affected by your timescale, so it changes in time with your day. This can also lead to time-lapse weathers at very high timescales, which can look stunning.

Enhanced Transitions allows the user to customise the time taken for each weather to transition to the next to suit their game.

Enhanced Colours allows the user to alter the colour tint of individual weather types during the day.

Enhanced Weather also has a SI weather script which requires OBSE v18 to run.

- If you do not have OBSE v18 installed, the script will not run, and Enhanced Weather will apply its SI changes through the vanilla weather system.
- If you do have OBSE v18 installed, the weather script will also activate, providing you with an enhanced SI weather system.

=======================================================================
7. Compatibility
=======================================================================

Enhanced Weather is not compatible with any other weather mod.

Streamline users need to make sure the following change is made to their SL.ini:

'set SLv.WeatherUnsticker to 0'

All other mods are fully compatible.

- If you want rainbows, use Rainbows in Tamriel V3. EW will not ever include rainbows as this mod does a fantastic job and is compatible.
- Users need the 1.x archive and the latest patch, 1.x.x, installed. Installation instructions are included in the patch. Users with 1.x already installed only need to download the 1.x.x patch.
- EW is compatible with Gates To Aesgaard 2 out of the box. Or any other worldspace-adding mod that uses custom weathers in them. This includes any Oblivion Realm Project releases that may be released.

Other Very Important Stuff

- I am looking for screenshots, so if you see anything good, snap it, convert to jpeg and upload to TES Nexus.

OK, I'm off to the USA now, for about 2 weeks, so that means no modding, and maybe no forum posting. Just in case anyone wonders where I went.

I'll fix the fast weather bug as soon as I get back, could sufferers please test the following procedure to see if it works for them:

1. Disable Timescaled Weather in your ini.
2. In game, enter set EWWeatherQuest.fQuestDelayTime to 180 into the console.
3. See if that fixes it.

Please post if it works or not. Corepc has already verified it does for him, but I'd like some more feedback.

On the subject of patches, RTT is looking to be quite complex to patch, so it will take a while. I've already made a patch for WillieSea's Haunted House, but need to test that before I upload it.

Thanks for the update.

If I understand correctly, the new value about darkening/not darkening the sky along with the ambient values - if set to 0 the sky will be brighter and not be affected by the screeneffects changes as much?

After installing the latest version, I noticed that I couldn't see the starts at night. Someone pointed out that there was an INI setting to disable the sky darkening. Although I can now see the stars, there is now a ring of light around the edges of the sky. I guess that has to do with the sky still being lighted. Could a setting be added that only darkens the sky enough to get rid of the ring of light without fading out the stars as well? I like to use really dark nights (80+% or Original) so looking up a bit and seeing a light sky has a pretty jarring effect, but seeing the moon and no stars is worse. For now I'll leave the sky darkening disabled. I have a few screenshots of this sky that I can upload.

Thanks for all of the updates!

I am also having the brighter ring when using about 50% darker nights and the "not darkened" sky setting.

I'm convinced it's a trade off, you either get darker skies or you get the ring.

Personally, I like my brighter night skies and can deal with the slight horizon banding.

I'm using "Real Night Sky." Is it possible to add a darkness parameter for the sky separately, similarly to the one for the ground?

Both shots used some version of darker nights: http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg24/Tomlong54210/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot20.jpg http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg24/Tomlong54210/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot23.jpg

Tom and DarkDragon have you tried changing this..

Set EWENQuest.NormalizeNightAmbient to 0 ; Enables/Disables vanilla's blue tint at night.

Set to 1 and see if that helps any..Else WrinklyNinja is out of town so will not be back for a few weeks..

Yes, I use Normalize night ambient.

And actually, I just remembered I'm also using a stars texture replacer, I think it's Real Night Sky v2.

But my stars are still brighter than what is shown in the above poster's pics. (Even with 50% darker nights I can still see stars, they're not completely obscured, just dimmer)

And I only get the horizon banding during cloudy days, on a clear or stormy night the texture blends pretty seamlessly with the horizon with the "no night sky darkening" option enabled.

I'm pretty satisfied with the added option, the banding only appears on foggy/cloudy weather which I figure is acceptable trade off to have for nice starry clear nights.

@CorePC: When I enable the sky darkening option, I can't see the stars.

@DarkDragon: I always have the band of light unless the weather is stormy (and I don't know about fog.) I'm using Real Night Sky as well, so that is kind of odd...

With EW134 and 80% darkner nights, I could still see the stars. The only update I have made is going from EW134 to EW135. On another note, I probably should have uploaded an EW134 picture when I wasn't using Night-eye. Maybe I should take a look through my screen shots...

I've just had a weird 'issue' (latest version of EW, OBSE 0017a). I opened the console to take a screenshot, and I noticed that the console buffer was full of error messages from one of the EW scripts - the script in question is EWETSIScript, and it was reporting errors on the ForEach, [ and <- statements. Now, I'm assuming from the 'SI' in the script's name that it only applies to SI weather - but I was in the vicinity of Vilverin/Sideways Cave at the time. I returned to the IC and saved, then reloaded, and haven't seen any of these errors crop up in the console since. I hadn't seen any of these errors in the console previously, for that matter. So it's probably something funny going on my end - I just thought I'd mention it in case there is a syntax problem with that script (I'm not familiar with OBSE scripting).

Are you running the latest version of the Real Night Sky? The modder did brighten up the stars a bit in the last version he released.

You could also load up the texture for the night sky (it's one file located in the sky folder under textures) and try brightening it up in photoshop or something, some adjustments on the slider might be all that's needed to make it show up better with the settings you want.

You could also try a different sky replacer, as real night skies is kinda dim even without EW compared to how bright and blobby the vanilla stars are.

It's no surprise they get blotted out when the sky gets darkened.

I'm personally happy with the disabling of the sky darkening, but it's a toss up, as it does create some horizon banding. But its not as noticeable for me as I don't use quite as dark of nights as you do (50% vs 70%).

Since there isn't much point in making a new thread...

Does anyone else have a problem with screeneffects? When its active in my mod list, after everything loads...suddenly I lose ALL my textures, except the UI. But all the graphics suddenly turn graish white, and I can't see anything. I fix it by deactivating it...but I guess to use Enhanced Seasons I need screeneffects? I deactivated that too, since I'm pretty sure I can't use it with out that problem mod.

might be a compatibility issue too? I use darker dungeons, enhanced weather darker nights 50%, storms and sounds, rainbows, windows lighting system, alive waters and qarl 3 texture pack redimized. Only graphical mods I use...oh and had another one that enhances vegetation, forgot name of it though. It doesn't have an esp though, was just a texture folder.
