[RELz] EnHDR

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 12:53 am

Another enhanced shader, this time a simple HDR shader:

This is actually the HDR function from trueBloom. It uses a simple cubic curve centered on the HDR value to give the appearance of dynamic lighting ranges of light. The actual range visible is different inside and outside, and can be tweaked by the user.
This shader adjusts the range you can see. It's a bit hard to see from screenshots, but you can see where the sky is bright when you're looking at the land. The adjustment is visible ingame.

To use all the features of this shader, you need the enhanced MGE dll found here:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7548
Select whichever version corresponds to your build of MGE.

If you choose not to use the enhanced dll, the shader will fall back to always using the outside HDR setting.
Also, the trueBloom shader includes HDR already, as do many of the shaders that come with MGE. Don't use multiple hdr shaders, it'll make things look really weird.
This can be used with ENB's bloom if you use that, but again, disable the ENB hdr or things will become too extreme.

Morrowind with MGE, ENB, and additional shaders does look better than oblivion but when Oblivion has ENB and other graphical boosts, its hard to tell. I still prefer morrowind over oblivion though.

OP: This looks good but of course all your shaders do.

I judge the games by story, features, then graphics (which is why I consider Daggerfall and X-Com Apocalypse a lot of fun). However, that doesn't stop me from trying to make them look better.

Add a little to immersion through graphics, and the story will pop out and svck you in that much more (but the story has to be there first!).

And apparently, our opinions on my shaders differ slightly. ;)

Quick question, should the sun be black when I look at it??? or is it a problem with my computer? Otherwise, really good :)

I had the same problem. Go http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/morrowind_technical_problems/b49680/19929565/p1/. Solution's at the end of the page.

A modded Morrowind's rendering engine in my opinion looks way better than (even modded) Oblivion, of course the resources (textures, models, etc.) in Morrowind would really need some touching up if one wanted to make the entire game look better than Oblivion, some of Morrowind's models are horrendous!

It's a problem on your end, check out http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=891212.

Is it still necessary to use the enhanced dll with the latest svn build of MGE with this shader?

No. Since rev117 or 118, the flags I added have been integrated into the core. You no longer need any special builds.

So is this a replacement for you truebloom?

No. Current versions of trueBloom don't have HDR. If you want to use HDR, I would recommend this and trueBloom g6rc1. You can use one or the other separately, and it'll still work fine.

Truebloom g6_3 is still the best shader ever created for MGE - the colors becomes fantastic with it, it's extremely nicely balanced.

It eats like 20 FPS or something like that though (with HDR turned on in MGE) which is the downside..

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but... not much I could do there. You can turn it down (at a quality of 1 it only eats 3 or 4 frames, I think), but if you want it to look good...

I recently released a simple SSAO shader, but like vurt said, this is a very old topic. If you mean a different shader, I can send you a copy or answer any questions.

I tried your new SSAO shader about 3 days ago. I left a comment in that thread.

@pK: In the op you mention that the shader can be easiely tweaked by the user. How can this be done?

For me it's a bit to overbright at the lighter spots on the outside and it seems to do absolutely nothing to the darker areas (dark nights are still pitch black). Is it possible to change that?

Thanks in advance.
