Entire Tamriel Landmass Built Into Skyrim

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:45 am

The main reason the land exists outside of the map borders is so the land inside the borders looks right. In other words, the western slope of a mountain in the game needs an eastern slope too, it's just outside of where you can go. Any of you who have played Simcity and terrafromed or tried to create land masses with the other TES editors will know what I am talking about.

As for paths and structures and such, it is probably a placeholder for any future DLC that comes out.

Also, we don't know the plans for TES6, but maybe they already built the map for it and it's in this game. This way when they build the content for the next game, the map looks like it belongs.

I doubt Elseweyr is there since (I may be wrong) it has not been in a previous TES game.

Oh... well that makes sense xD I hope TES: 6 is in Elseweyr

just a theory
but what if somewhere along the line of TES development they decided to make a rudimentary model of the entire map just for reference purposes
would make sense to start building of that model when starting a new game

I tried to make Elswyr with a couple of my friends back right when Oblivion came out. Gawd, it is a long exhausting process. We got like 2 cities and a half dozen caves and things built and then DLC came out. Gave me newfound respect for the Bethesda guys. Still jealous they get to go create entire worlds like that though.

That makes entirely too much sense ^_^

I'm excited and am going to start looking for possibilities for TES 6 when I get home.

That's what I figured, but I can't find that line.

You're right, I can't find it either. My bad.

If Skyrim doesn't have some new line for it that I'm not seeing, you could always try writing in that line yourself and see if that works. Just backup the file first, just in case.

They did the same with oblivion, dont get your hopes up about anything

Maybe just for modders.

Oblivion had this too ;
In fact, it had so much, that the modders were even able to create the entire provinces of Valenwood and Elsweyr on the unused land.

Yeaaa, the Tamriel Rebuild mod, they tried to make one for Morrowind, then Oblivion came out, so they switched to Oblivion, then Skyrim comes out...

It's certainly odd that White Gold Tower is there. I can understand excess landmass, but having that there just seems unnecessary. I highly doubt that it's for DLC. That said they created The Shivering Isles (effectively a small province) as an expansion, and given the information that they were focussing on larger packs than smaller ones it could be possible we'll revisit a ruined Morrowind or Cyrodiil under the new Empire. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I don't think so, because even when atop High Hrothgar there is still no chance of seeing the Imperial City. Maybe by Giants on the very edge of the map but I doubt it. Doesn't explain the Archway

There is usually a way to glitch yourself out of the map on the console platforms. There was a way to do this in FO3/FONV. Somebody will stumble across the place to do it. It usually involves paintbrushes and jumping exercises.

They don't model any structures in Skyrim either- apart from the White-Gold Tower, and as a person who works with the video game industry, I am 99% certain that is a developer joke referencing the fact that the White-Gold Tower was visible from nearly all of Oblivion.

Visible from all Oblivion... except from inside the Arena, right under the Tower's nose

Ah! I completely forgot about that. Though I don't think anyone has found it yet.
