Epic Endings

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 3:49 pm

How many of you remember the shock and awe moment when Merhunes Dagon shows up in full size in Oblivion?

How many remember the epic battle with Akatosh where a single blow could wipe out a city?

Since then all the boss characters from Umaril, to Pelinal, from Sheogorath to Jyglagg have been underwhelming in comparision

I hope they make Alduin Epic enough for a world eater...

They would almost have to after all the hype from the promo clips. I don't think that they'll let us down. It'll be epically epic. lol

Personally, I don't need epic endings.

I'd prefer a good well written ending to a epic ending.

How about a really poignant personal ending? That would be a refreshing change.

I am expecting the story to start off with the character between two sides of the civil war, only to find out the you are the Dovakhiin and to then get wrapped up in a fight against the dragons, ending with a climactic fight against either one gigantic dragon or multiple large dragons.

I do! Followed closely by the disappointment as I realized I was going to sit on the sidelines as a spectator to...

How many remember the epic battle with Akatosh where a single blow could wipe out a city?

...the "sit and watch" ending to all your hard work in Oblivion.

I hope they make Alduin Epic enough for a world eater...

I hope we get to do something besides watch someone else save the world at the end of the game.

Personally (and this is just me), I thought I was watching a episode of "Yu-Gi-Oh" when Mehrunes Dagon and the avatar of Akatosh were battling it out. It was alright, but I always felt insignificant in Oblivion. I couldn't do anything against Mehrunes Dagon because he was a Daedric prince and I was some random ex-convict trying to play hero. I was always a messenger boy for Martin. I never got any credit for anything. I was just... there. Anyways, you get the point. I would like to see a much better ending this time around in Skyrim.

.....Well I hate to admit it but I was not really that overwhelmed by the ending of oblivion.I agree with the post above me yea it felt like yu-gi-oh. I'm hoping for a much more quality ending with a tad bit more depth. :flamethrower:

In Skyrim, you play the bastard child of Uriel Septim and a dragon (you can be any race because of the magical nature of dragons). Not just any dragon, but that really fearsome one (you know the one I mean). This fact is not revealed to you until the climix, when you learn that your dragon-mother has kidnapped your notsodragon-father, and it's up to you and your dragon shouts to find him (I'm looking for my father, middle-aged guy, maybe you've seen him?). During the ending, you have to defeat your mother in not-so-mortal combat. You succeed, but she amalgamates her essence with that of Uriel Septim and transforms into an even greater, sixless dragon of nearly limitless power. She kills you, but not really. Instead, your soul ends up in limbo and you must choose between your draconian gifts, or the divine power offered to you by the gods before you can clamber back into reality and slay your own mother/father. Naturally, this brings peace to the land, and you'll see Nords breaking bread with Dunmer and whatnot.

tl;dr: I was bored so I made up a fake plotline, borrowing tropes heavily from other games, movies, and books.

Definitely I was in awe, then my character hit him (mace) in the shin and ran like heck away :bolt:

The glimpse battle of Martin (The Avatar of Akatosh) and Merhunes reminded me of Digimon, for some reason. Heck, during that short period I was humming the Digimon theme tune. :celebrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJvpOrzcGbI

But yes, I suspect the MQ throughout and ending will definitely be something great.

i thought the morrowind ending was more epic then Oblivion's. Questing into the most dangerous place on the map, using powerful tools to frantically destroy the heart while Dagoth Ur is chasing you across a wooden bridge across a pit of lava....then after the battle you have ot run/levitate to safety from the collasping area.

Sure beats watching someone else defeat Dagon.

Of course the ending will be epic.

Remember the first time you stepped into the final dwemer ruins in Red Mountain and hearing Dagoth Ur speak to you for the first time? Remember entering that final room and finally meeting him face to face? Remember running for your life to the Heart of Lorkhan as Dagoth Ur chased you down the narrow path? Remember pounding at the Heart and then sprinting across the bridge to safety just as the Akulakhan fell to pieces into the lava, along with the devil Dagoth Ur?

And now Skyrim is taking place in the frozen land of the Nords where a giant dragon is coming to end the world.

Yeah. We won't be disappointed.

The primary antagonist this time around is Alduin the World Eater. Alduin is the Nord interpretation of Akatosh, the god of time, literally responsible for the linear nature of time and the order and structure of Nirn. And in the Nord version, the one who will literally destroy/devour the world.

I think it's safe to say that his avatar - assuming we see and fight it - HAS to be epic.

Don't be silly. Arena clearly had the most epic ending. Especially the floppy disk version with its bad FMV silhouettes. Skyrim's finale better play a NORSE POWER METAL rendition of this theme!

Didn't like Oblivion's ending or main quest, hope it's more like Morrowind - a little more out of the way and optional feeling(I want to be told to go out and gain more experience after being handed some gold like with Caius), but with a more interesting story and less boring antagonist(s). Oblivion's antagonists were basically mindlessly destructive and evil demons with no particularly interesting motives, justifications, deceptions, etc. etc.

Oblivion wasn't epic ended... Sure you had two big dudes slapping each other around a tad but rly I was let down by the ending. I could do nothing during it besides watch and afterwards a guy promises me armor in two weeks... I was more like "so...What now?"

(yes I know i could do quests and stuff but the ending was abrupt if anything) :sadvaultboy:

I enjoyed the endings to both Morrowind and Oblivion, but the ending to Morrowind really felt like a big accomplishment, because you had to work for it.

I'd rather not have multiple endings again. Last time we had that, they had to change time and reality to fix it hehe. I don't think the TES mythos can survive another dragonbreak hehe.

Wait, what? Hmm I didn't realize that obtaining Tiber septims armor, a daedric artifact, a great welkynd stone and a great sigil stone and fighting Mankar Camoran and his misfit children were doing nothing. Oh and closing all the Oblivion gates at each of the major cities to get reinforcements for the Battle of Bruma. Yep nothing at all <_<

Hopefully the ending is not like Oblivion where you just watch someone else battle the end boss. Surely the end boss should be something you fight.
