No Epic scenery

Post » Thu Jan 16, 2014 9:03 pm

Hi By all thepictures and videos showed so far , I can see that there is a huge lack of Epic scenery , all the lands seem similar rounded hilly parks , nothing special and just flat landscape with actually a pretty old graphic look ...

In terms of Graphic I woudl like ot see more epic sceneries, open scenes, vast plans, huge and dense forests, Great mountains , I can't even see one single mountain that is worth calling so in the pics and videos ... Will they rethink of their actual Environment work ?

For me is important the environment to appreciate the exploration ... just going around opening boxes scattered around isn't my idea of fun .

Age of Conan had awesome art direction and epic scenery ideas with great city environment level design ....

World of Tanks has great graphics with a photorealistic touch using overlay textures to grant more detail to all landscape ...

In ESO videos you can only see the same cartoonish look .

Do not get me wrong the art of the models look good and appreciated but the use of the models in the landscaping seems boring and uninteresting .

Maybe wait until the game launches to look at videos and pics of the in-game scenery... what is available now isnt enough to judge by.

All I can say on this point is that I noticed something remarkable on the Quakcon 2013 demonstration. The player went up some sort of watchtower and looking out at the vista, the audience audibly gasped. It didn't look anything special to me, so I'm guessing they recognised something from one of the previous games in the background.

And I think that's the answer really. When it comes to areas which have been visited in previous games, they are going to be true to that (presumably taking into account the few hundred years earlier thing). With genuinely new areas, there is bound to be more scope I suppose and I'm sure they understand the importance of varied landscapes.

We'll see, right?

A picture can only cover a small bit ... event 100 pictures can't capture everything. There is still development going on. So.... Just wait and see.

Which is weird, you'd think they'd try to woo potential customers by showing some of the best they've got.

But on the other side of the coin. You want to avoid people playing, seeing something epic and just going 'Seen it' because they saw it in the trailers and screenshots. They need to save the majority of the epic sights for the game imo.

Example: Evendim in LOTRO, climbing over a hill and seeing the huge statues standing astride the river, that made me pause and just stare. Then the sight of the city of Annuminias across the lake. Wow.

I want to play this game and have moments like that, but whilst I'm playing, not from watching a trailer.

Cartoonish look? Is this 2012 all over again?

You do because you're going to buy it anyway. You could always just steer clear of the trailers as I do for films I know I want to see anyway (or try to).

However, there are a lot of potential customers who have an ever increasing choice of MMO and other titles vying for their cash and time. A number of those titles are not being shy about what the game offers.

I know, I've been very careful to avoid the trailers and other vids. It is difficult though.
