Erm, everyone's calling me 'Baby!", now...?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 3:27 am

Just wondering, is this a bug? My character, last time I looked, was male- yet all the male characters in The Strip start their conversations with me with a hearty 'Well, baby...'! Gonna sock a few if they keep it up.

Or maybe they know something I don't. Who knows.

The AI is freaking stupid, that's what.

I've had them going "Watch out, sister" to my decidedly male character in Nellis over and over and over again. Things like that happen all over the place.

I'd also swear that at least once my character had the female voice, and I'm not sure how that happened. Either that, or he's a vocalist and can raise his voice several octaves.

Every now and then when my character gets hit he sounds like a female. I just thought maybe he was a wimp, but your post solves my mystery.

Sounds like your character got a six change while you weren't looking.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the guys in the Tops casino just called you 'baby' anyway, regardless of whether you're male or female.

Don't know about the other instances though...

Actually I believe I have the answer, do you have the Confirmed Bachelor/Cherchez La Femme perk? Or Lady Killer/Black Widow? The former is unique interactions and dialogue with the same six: Male to Male/ Female to Female; and the latter is opposite six: Male to Female/Female to Male. Both provide +10% damage to the six of your perk bonus.

I do have Confirmed Bachelor, and I thought maybe this was why the doctor at Camp Forlorn Hope kept calling my guy "buttercup" and complimenting him for being "pretty." I'm figuring, okay, I can roll with this, just give me some dialog options to flirt a Doctor's Bag (ahem) out of this guy, and I'm good. But no. When I started hearing decidedly womanly grunts out of my character, I realized that the game forgot what gender I was playing. I might even be able to roll with that if it weren't for the beard.

Yeah, the medic in Camp Forlorn Hope started hitting on me. It was weird.

I know exactly what your talking about! I had a frag grenade blow up on me and I heard this girlish yell come from my character and I thought I was going insane.

lol, I love how people misunderstood Confirmed Bachelor. Did the Vault-Boy massaging a Vault-Boy not give a hint? I think it's safe to say your character appears on the Gaydar of the homosixuals in the Mojave. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Anyway on topic. That female voice when picking up injuries as a male character gets pretty annoying after a while. There've been occasions in some of the Casinos where the NPCs have said things like, "Hey if it isn't the girl who... etc" Also annoying. I don't have Confirmed Bachelor so the problem isn;t linked to that.

Fixed in next patch, please. S'a small thing. Easy fix. :D

Based on what I've seen this is it. They're not calling you "babe" they're calling you "baby" which can be used as gender neutral slang. As for NPCs mistaking your character's gender, I've never really seen this happen. What I have seen is other NPCs saying stuff to my companions who are occasionally of the opposite gender; NPCs have a habit of talking to or remarking about your companions in this game. For example, once I was going through the King's headquarters in Freeside with Rex and as Rex passed one of the Kings he said "Hey, isn't that the King's dog?" to him.

I have noticed that sometimes NPCs act like my companion is me, but those cases have been few and far between. I rarely travel without companions though, so I may have simply never noticed them mistaking my gender. It never happened when I had Arcade Gannon with me though.

The perk Confirmed Bachelor (for Males) means unique dialogues between your Male character and other Male NPCs.
The perk Cherchez La Femme (for Females) means unique dialogue between your Female character and other Female NPCs.
The perk Lady Killer (for Males) means unique dialogues between your Male character and other Female NPCs.
The perk Black Widow (for Females) means unique dialogues between your Female character and other male NPCs.

By "unique" I mean the sort of dialogue you are having difficulty understanding the content of.

All of the above include +10% Bonus damage to the six specified in the perk.

That wasn't the issue with my character in the casinos (not talking about Tops and the "baby" thing) I didn't have companions with me (not even in the party waiting somwhere), and NPCs referred to my char as a girl.

Yeah I don't know what's going on there, it's never happened to me but it may have always happened while I had Veronica or Cass with me so I simply shrugged it off.

The answer is simple : If they call you stuff like that you slowly turn towards them, and give them a nice dose of lead poisoning.
Problem solved and your point has come across very clear, i do not think they will ever dare to do that again.

Offcourse them being "dead" is justa side effect :D

I do have Confirmed Bachelor,

That's probably the reason. Confirmed Bachelor is the homosixual perk.

and I thought maybe this was why the doctor at Camp Forlorn Hope kept calling my guy "buttercup" and complimenting him for being "pretty." You can flirt with other guys for stuff. Arcade Gannon will come with you without having to make a speech check, and the guy at Mojave Outpost will repair your stuff for free.

My char screams like a girl, but then if I was being shot at in real life I'd scream like a girl too.
