Error in script 690011f5...Offset: 0x000016A9

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 9:31 am

in the obse error message:
Error in script 690011f5
Operator := failed to evaluate to a valid result
File: kuerteeHorseCommands.esp Offset: 0x000016A9 Command: Let (0x1765)

can authors use (somehow) the offset value to pinpoint the error in the script given by 690011f5?

Error in script 690011f5 This would be your editor ID in the CS, it tells you which script
Operator := failed to evaluate to a valid result
File: kuerteeHorseCommands.esp Offset: 0x000016A9 This is the hex offset in the esp file - useless unless you want to hex edit your esp directly Command: Let (0x1765)

So.. no. Best you get is the script that caused the error (the Editor ID). That last part "Command: Let" may be a reference to the line of code, but most likely it's a reference to a particular engine command. An OBSE editor would know more about that than I would. Your best bet is to check that script line by line - and hopefully it's a short one.

:edit:
the 2nd line "Operator: = failed to evaulate to a valid result" may help you pinpoint the bad line, this looks like it indicates you've got a poorly written comparison.

It seems you guys missed it: scruggsy developed a fantastic toll that has reduced my debugging time by 33-50%:

Script Viewer - it shows all your scripts with the displacement by each line - finding the culprit line is a piece of cake . . . finding the bug is something else, of course. lol

The link is http://home.comcast.net/~scruggsyW/obse/ScriptViewer.zip

I've found the link in this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1047306-beta-oblivion-script-extender-obse-0018/page__view__findpost__p__15199347

I will ask scruggsy to keep the link in the OBSE threads

Not sure what you mean. I suppose the link is down because the thread was deleted.
I think Beth deletes threads if nobody views them for some time (6 months, maybe?)

Anyway, have you noticed http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1097191-relz-oblivion-script-extender-obse-0018/page__view__findpost__p__16032899? Good news: his editor will have this feature.

Ah - I thought that the thread was still there and the link was as the links were before the forum update - deleted huh ? - the threads get deleted if no replies are made for some time (and the weather is bad or something like that) - no use grumbling about it though it is annoying - especially with technical ones
:celebration: for shadeMe then :D

I'm pretty sure the forums database was completely restructured when it was ported over to the new software, so old links don't really have anything in them that can point you to the correct URL for that thread anymore. Even if the thread in the link is still available, there's no way to find it based on the old link.

I take this as a definite no no - I was hoping one could use the topic number - bethesda doesn't do much on google though
Thanks anyway :)
