Error when converting OB mesh

Post » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:17 am

I've been trying to downgrade a certain mesh from oblivion. The problem with downgrading seems to pop up when I attempt to export a sphere or curve of some type.

When I import I do not select any of the options.

I have been able to downgrade all non-sphere meshes successfully.

Anyone know what I doing that isn't working?

A silly question, but DID you use the "apply scale and rotation" option (if ctrl+a doesn't work for some reason, look for it in the menus)? I recall similiar problems with some meshes, and that's how I dealt with them.

I don't know why, but blender sometimes requires using that option for some reason (perhaps someone with more knowledge could explain it, I'm a noob)

As Karpik said, select all the parts of the mesh and then Object --> Clear/Apply --> Apply Scale/Rotation to ObData
That should do it.

Non-uniform scale is like when you squash a tennis ball, a bit like the dome on top of the tower. It's smaller along just one axis.

Technically speaking, to render an object like that you have to do more calculations on the vertex normals than with uniformly scaled objects. Morrowind just doesn't do that, so you have to bake in the transform at the modelling stage with "Apply scale and rotation".

I had tried doing the 'apply scale and rotation' option, but it did not work for me. I received the exact same error when I tried exporting the mesh. I'll try again and make sure everything was selected, but I'm nearly sure that it was.

Thanks, I'll let you know if I can get it to work.

Nope, it didn't work for me. Any other ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Hmm, the only thing I can think of is to try applying the rotation just to the dome part...

OK, I got it to work with some meshes. (All of you may have been telling me to do this already I just didn't...) I cleared the scale/rotation data first and then applied it. This worked for some meshes where I could visibly see the 'clear' function moving things around. But if it didn't actually move anything around then I still received the error.

edit: even if I deleted the offending mesh.
