RP'ers vs casual adventurers

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:37 am

I'm curious.

Originally I told myself I would only fast travel for city jumping to gather materials or clear out loot. But admittedly the last 10 levels I've been in "get stuff done" mode instead of enjoying the world.

I'm about 60 hours in and I'm level 38. What level are you and how much do you fast travel and get lazer visioned vs RP'ing and just explore and find fun things to do.

i almost always use fast travel, and i don't consider myself a casual gamer at all. I have about 81 hour in the game AND im level 49 , I do radiant quest from the tavern/jarl when im in a dungen clearing mood. i just dont like having to walk all over the place, it wouldn't be as bad if they had the speed attribute like in previous games

I have 64 hours, level 39, but I've played an other character until level 15-17...

I fast travel almost all the time, the only exception is when I explore an area without quest reason.

Hold on a second.

If I choose to use the fast travel feature, that makes me a "casual" adventurer? Because I fast travel, that means I don't RP?

Is this a (censorship is fun!) joke?

I fast travelwhen ever possible. Because I am old I get lost alot looking for these places and end up in areas I don't think were designed for playin in. Because they tell me I can't go that way. And I've lost a dog, and a few followers running down the sides of the mountains ?? So I expoler probebly more than I should, but I have found some neat stuff !! :swear:

I use fast travel, but consider myself to be roleplaying.

I work 12 hours a day and have a family, so my Skyrim time is limited. Fast travel allows me to continue my adventures without wasting my limited playtime.

lol at the false association of fast-travel = casual.

But at any rate, I'm 260 hours into this game and I'm still only level 46. One character, all 260 hours. Roleplay much?
(And I fast-travel a lot. 260 hours would be 2500 hours if I didn't.)

I guess I did not word that correctly. I did not mean to say that if you fast travel you are only a casual player. I more meant the comparison to people who go the "hard-core" RP route and NEVER fast travel or play 200 hours and could count on 1 hand the amount of times they have.

I planned on not doing much fast travel, but I ended up doing it because of the endless lag spikes every few seconds. With that gone, I'm planning on going away from it again. I just wish I could have horse riding in 1st person and I'd be one happy traveler.

I consider myself a heavy RPer.

- I never fast travel. I take carriages when it fits the context tho.

- I limit my inventory to not carry unrealistic amounts of stuff.

- I drnk, eat and sleep regularly.

- I don't do random stuff just for the sake of it. I.E: Enter a cave just to see what's inside.

Skyrim is set up for fast travel. NPCs expect you to bounce around the map incessantly...

The only RP I do is dead is dead. It's the biggest thing you can do to make an experience immersive.

According to Steam, I have 267 hours of play time as of now. My current character is level 45 and is a Dunmer Nightingale build. I typically visit a hold, get the miscellaneous quests, then, try to explore every site in the region around the hold on foot with the political border representing my current “limit.” I fast travel between explored areas or over very long map distances only.

I consider a horse to be a forced and worthless disadvantage due to the mechanics. That might change if mounted combat options were introduced.

I am at Level 10 (I deleted my character three times) on the PS3, and Level 24 on the PC. I only fast travel when I need to go to High -- erm... somewhere very high very quickly. Other than that, I walk from place to place. I actually would rather fast travel, but by sheer bad luck, whenever I fast travel on the PS3, the game always freezes on me.

I picked up Skyrim on the PC when we had that nasty little save game file bug. I don't mind fast traveling on the PC; it crashes a couple of times, but it just goes to the Desktop. No need for a hard boot. Hard boots are irritating. But yeah, that's probably how I beat the main quest and the Legion quests so quickly.

I'm a RP'er and use fast travel mainly when my bags are full. If I'm empty i'm full on explore mode!

At a little over 100 hours, thanks to the slower-leveling mod I'm using, my character just turned level 15. Of those 100 hours, though, I think over half of them are just walking places. My character has used carriages about six times, but normally walks where she needs to go (and by walk, I don't mean run). She may sprint for a short bit in combat, but, yeah, she walks across the country because I can't imagine running that distance carrying 300 pounds of assorted crap. Up a mountain. To get into a fight. Or after killing a dragon.

Level 23 and I have fast traveled once, but I loaded afterwards and ran the trip instead. Won't be using fast travel at all in Skyrim, it's just too pretty.

Thats a bit boring, why wouldn't you? I don't understand that logic at all, especially when there are no time constraints on quests.

I fast travel after I have wandered somewhere, becuase if I pass something I usualy explore and realy have no reason to go by foot.

Each to their own I guess.

This.

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to not run from town to town. :)

I never had a problem with fast travel. So I do it whenever I feel like it and it does not break RP for me.

Fast travelling just means that you moved from one place to another on your own but you didn't see it, it makes no sense to not add it to roleplayers.

But i'm mostly a casual adventurer, planning on making a RP character later to try, but i've never been into that stuff.

I'm still doing my first play through so I don't really RP yet, so I fast travel everywhere and doing a lot of side quests and things.
But I'd definitely will try RP in my 2nd play through though. First play through is never RP for me.

because I think it's boring and pointless doing things without a purpose. If I keep doing quests one of them will eventually send me to that cave I've just passed through. Also I don't try to complete the game with only one character. I play several times with different characters that have different goals and motivations. If I don't go to some places with this character I might with the next.

If after a certain amount of time I feel like I haven't explored enough of the map I might create an Indiana Jones-ish char whose main goal will be to explore ancient ruins and collect rare artifacts.

That's fun for me.

I don't randomly enter caves, forts, etc very often, either. I've had way too much trouble with games getting bugged in the past when I solve something before my char has been asked to or sold too many quest items without knowing. I'm probably a total wuss, but better safe than sorry.

This is the type of RP I meant to describe. If I weren't married or had to share my television screen, this is the way I would want to play. Total immersion; I can only imagine how relaxing, exciting and releasing it must be to experience an epic game like Skyrim like that. Although I can't imagine the walking...that is hard core even for me
