On a side note, i've started following the development for KC:D, but is there any place they have a full list of features? Is it going to have some similarities to M&B:WB?

Well you can check their website and youtube channel especially the streams they put up.
After hearing about what they want to do with the crime system in the game I gotta say they are far more ambitious in a good way than Bethesda is.
I really hope the game succeeds. I have a bad feeling that the quests in the game might be bland, but gameplay wise it's so far appears to demolish TES on every front. We are talking about a tiny indie company funded by kickstarter here with the game still in it's alpha stage.
I haven't played M&B WB much, but they are similar in the fact that both games are based strictly off of real life medieval times with absolutely no fantastical elements such as magic or dragons and etc. Apparently no publisher wants to fund that kind of game according to the director of the game lol. That's one of the main reason they started a Kickstarter for the game. To prove that there is still a demand for this type of game.
The engine isn't an excuse for all of the problems in the game. If Bethesda suddenly switched to CryEngine or Source 2 or Unreal 5 or whatever, the results wouldn't suddenly become more stable and good-looking. The workflow of development/modding would suffer, and the amount of interactivity with objects in the world would probably suffer as well.
Once again I have to explain to people that CryEngine 3 or Unreal Engine 4 not having the modding ability that Bethesda Game Studios developed video games have is not true at all.
I use CryEngine 2, CryEngine 3, Unreal Development Kit (UDK), and Unreal Engine 4 every year.
Crysis which runs on CryEngine 2 you are able to pick up almost every single item in front of your face, although you don't have a inventory.
For Unreal Development Kit (UDK) I managed to make a mod where you can actually talk to every single NPC's taht you see you can talk to.
For Unreal Engine 4 I managed to do this as well and much faster than I was able to with Unreal Development Kit (UDK), Unreal Engine 4 also has a inventory system and a dialogue system to be able to talk to every single NPC's that you see.
With both CryEngine 3 and Unreal Engine 4 supporting DirectX 12 both of these video game engines you should now also be able to pick up every single item in front of your face, since DirectX 12 allows for A LOT more drawcalls than DirectX 11 ever will.
New/Revamped engine for sure, the existing one is good but it's falling behind in my opinion. The reason why I say revamped is because the engine that bethesda use is the culmination of years of work and creating a new one from scratch with all the same capabilities could push TES 6 back even further than 2019.
-Edit- Actually considering their recent expansion, I wouldn't completely discount a new engine since software development companies often hire large numbers of new staff to help upgrade to a new system.
I have not read through all the posts yet, but I am with the general idea I have seen so far that I would like a new engine upgrade for the next TES game but not at all primary for the graphics, imo a full modded Skrim with enb etc is still the best looking game on the market. And I really like the TES engine overall, but yes there are always things that can be better.
What I would really want in a new upgraded engine is more work on things like AI, dynamics and world persistance etc. I would love a TES where cities are open in vanilla and where you can just go into houses or caves without loading times. I want NPC:s to feel even more alive and react more realistic to your character and who they are. And while the physics and everything is great I would love it if things like animals and creatures does not stand on akward angles on slopes etc.
I ike these ideas, too. Graphics is why cities and home are "celled off." The better the graphics, the less one can comfortably set onscreen.
Question about AI, though. Is it just the simple "make sense, please" fixes, like the ability for NPCs to jump down a 1 foot dropoff, or are you talking more about combat AI?
I'd be careful with that "tiny indie devs funded by KS". They do have an investor, just not a professional publishing company. You're right that they launched the Kickstarter campaign to prove there's interest in this kind of game - but it was meant to be just 10% of the actual budget, the rest provided by Zdenek Bakala, one of the most successful Czech entrepreneurs. Thanks to this involvement, he also owns the majority of shares in Warhorse Studios.
If you ask me, I think TES VI could potentially release anytime between 2018 and maybe about 2023, depending on which BGS ends up making it (assuming one of the two studios is making it of course). We still don't know which game studio "Starfield" is (perhaps was?) attached to, or if Starfield's even ever going to be completed and released, but Starfield was trademarked at around the same time BGS was finishing up post-release support for Skyrim. At this point in time, it seems like Todd Howard is just as likely to do TES VI as he would do a new IP, especially when you consider some of the most recent interviews of and statements from Todd Howard and Pete Hines.
As far as a new engine is concerned, that also can go either way. People have been demanding for years that BGS adopts a completely new engine not based on anything from Gamebryo, and sometimes BGS does comply with popular demand. Other times, they simply continue doing things their own way. Their next game or two will probably be built on improved versions of the Creation Engine, though.
Honestly, from the fun I had with Oblivion (although I'm aware my opinion on the game is in the minority) and my general love of the lore, I am going to be probably a lifelong fan of the series. I'm probably more patient than the average person, though. Plus, I've several life goals that would probably prevent me from being able to play it (at least enjoyably) if it were released anytime soon.
I agree with many of the comments about Skyrim being the most unfinished TES game, though. I felt myself thinking that almost at every turn I took. I really think that they need to do something phenomenal for their next game. Something that feels like a major evolution of almost every aspect of what they've done in the past, be it in gameplay features, RPG features, or both. For this reason, I strongly think it would be best for the game to release in 2019 or later.
Even if they waited until 2021 to release it, I'd be all for it, provided that the end product felt like it had taken everything from past TES games and expanded on them sufficiently. Something that I really want to see, is a much larger quantity and quality in terms of the factions of the world. I feel like instead of seeing the number of factions since Morrowind shrink, we should have been seeing it increase. I think more development time would allow for them to expand upon this.
I think a more believable AI in general that is less "black and white" that the current one. I guess this covers all aspects of the game where AI characters behave more dynamic toward the player and each other depending on a myrriad of factors. I guess this is more of an industry problem then anything specific for TES. I thought AI would be the main focus point for the new generation of consoles and the "next step" etc. I want to see AI characters that actually react and think it is strange if the player is following them around or jumping up and down in their face etc.
Definitely a new engine, and I can wait until 2019 (still tons of things to do in Skyrim and previous games).
Graphics is very important because visual immersion is very important in these kind of games.
I would totally wait for a new, more potent engine.
ES6 isn't releasing this year. Bethesda will likely release Fallout 4 patches and DLC thought this year. 2019 or 2020 are the years I expect it to release. As for if it need a new engine I don't know.
We will not get TES6 on an new engine, if they wanted to change engine they would do it for FO4 then they also went to PS4 and One with it far more pc like architecture and more memory.
looking at timetable TES6 will come in three years as Skyrim did after FO3. You would change engine on an console change unless serious problems they don't have.
My guess is that they will keep the pc-like architecture on PS5 bonus is that it would be backward compatible.
They always sad they'd use the Creation engine for one more game = FO4.
When - or if - a TES:VI is relased, it will likely use the engine from Starfield (their new IP)
This Starfield is new to me, is it just a rumor or an actual thing? A new engine sounds great!
1. They've said that all we'll hear with regards to TES for the foreseeable future, will be ESO related
2. It's been hinted at for a long time that they'd rather do a new IP than continue with TES/Fallout
3. The name Starfield has been registered as a trademark with Bethesda for quite some time, and is the only of their trademarks that has no immediate relation to neither TES nor Fallout
You do the maths.
I doubt BGS is working on anything other than TES ( plans, art, eary production) and Fallout 4 dlc (full production). I bet the next game from BGS is TES VI. Maybe the new studio in Canada could work on a new IP, but after Skyrim's success I don't think the suits @ Zenimax would pull a Half-Life on the TES fans.
Todd Howard has specifically said he wanted to do something new and fresh back in a 2014 interview at Gamescom 2014.
The new Bethesda Game Studios Montreal, was in fact made because Todd Howard wanted a bigger team to expand, so ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks let him do it.
To me every time I look at Todd Howards face, at his eyes mostly he seems tired of working on developing The Elder Scrolls video games and Fallout video games and wants to work on developing a brand new video game to let his creative freedom be free.
He has to develop different video games in his life time you know, Todd Howard can't keep on working on sequels, prequels or spin-offs of video game franchises all his life. He's going to get burnt out, most video game developers after 10 years or 20 years get burnt out from this. Or at least quite a few big names that I know of like Chris Roberts and some folks from BioWare who left because of this.
That tradmarked video game Starfield from what 2013? Is most likely Bethesda Game Studios Maryland and Bethesda Game Studios Montreal's next new video game that they are going to be developing or are some what developing right now, with Fallout 4 until Fallout 4 is completely finished being developed with DLC's, expansion packs, and patches.
It has to be a new engine. I wouldn't be surprised Bethesda devs and artists are sick to death of the Creation Engine by now, with its quirks and limitations.
The best thing they could do is to license a top of the line engine and adapt it to their workflow.
Other devs are not standing still (look at CDProjekt) in the engine department...
Using an older engine may still work now and pay the bills (Fallout) but it will not be possible indefinitely.
