How can you NOT envision Esbern a Nord by just listening to his voice?

He will be a nord , with beard, the player will meet him during his mid-life crysis and he′ll be like the Obi-Wan Kenobi of TES.

I hope he will be like a good version of Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. Older and wiser, but still capable of combat. And I hope he survives!!! :)

I hope he isn't too involved with the plot, really. He'll probably be more like Caius Cosades than Jauffre, get us started on the right foot and tell us that we need to seek out the Greybeards. Maybe make some really dramatic appearance near the end of the quest line.

Personally I hope Esbern breaks from the tradition of "main big-named-voice-actor character killed off" ala Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson.

I really think they missed a big oppurtunity with Liam Neeson in Fallout 3, he has a wonderful voice.

I seem to remember that any mention has talked about some sort of Blade Remnant- as in a group of highly trained warriors.

That would be an interesting character- willing to die for an ideal he's only read and heard about and a bloodline risen to the stars far before his time
and to remain a bastion of hope, virtue and order as the land falls into chaos around them. And dreams of a city with a white spire, seen only from afar and in wistful dreams. He would pretty much have to be a nord to get on in Skyrim- or an imperiial who has lived there most of his life.

I imagine his base would not be unlike Cloud Temple (I haven't played OB in a while- that is waht it was right?) and the various functions that has would sere as training areas (library for magic and alchemy, range for archery, armoury for armour, sparring for melee), and he would talk you through them.
That is of course assuming you don't start in prison :P

Max Von Sydow is Swedish and his ingame character has a Norse sounding name so I take it he's Norse, loved him as King Osric in Conan The Barbarian, he's a real theatrical actor ha ha. I already know how he'll be introdroduced but I don't wanna spoil anything but it's not like were gonna grow up with him, he'll prob be like any other "mentor" in eldrtscrolls, stepping in at any age of our character so we can keep our background set to whatever we want. I'm really happy about how Skyrim is turning out, very much Frank Frazetta and Conan inspiration, I've prayed that Bethesda would make a rpg like this since the beginning, it just didn't feel natural to play as a more primitive barbarian in the other games, even though that's what I did, now it's gonna feel very natural to be that kind of character, it's gonna be awesome no matter what character you prefer playing as.

*dragon kills Esbern.*

Player: NOOO!!

*Player goes on rampage, sniping stormtroopers dragons with one hit of whatever weapon they use before hitting a special crystal that seals Alduin beind a blast door.*

I'd see him as a nord, who saves us from getting our head taken off at the last second and then explains to us why he bothered while a dragon attacks the camp. He sounds old, tired of fighting. His recolection of a dream he has is probably a warning of what it will look like when Aldiun comes.

I suspect he'll be even closer to you than Jauffre. Like with Jedi Masters and Padawans in Stars Wars you're referencing to. He's supposed to be your mentor after all, he's there to save and protect you, because you're a valuable individual since you're the last of a kind. Also, you have powers that have to be trained and developed and someone must guide you in that existence.

Where are you all getting this information regarding the game? None of this was in the GI updates.

I'm hoping he's a shirtless skooma addicted hobo like our old blade friend from MW.

Perhaps he is undercover as a quiet monk at an unsuspecting priory just outside of Winterhold..

A shirtless skooma addicted hobo disguised as a monk in an unsuspecting priory just outside Winterhold with a house on the edge of town?

Yep.

Really though, I'm betting he'll bust you out of prison, or rescue you from whatever at the beginning, and from there function more or less like Caius Cosades with a slightly more Obi-Wan personality. Potentially showing up during a few key moments throughout the story.

One thing that always bugged me about the Blades...they carried nothing but a blade. My archer file or my blunt weapons file or my mage..."Welcome to the Blades here is your sword" well thats pretty to look at unfortunately my blade skill is 16...

I always imagined the Blades in Morrowind as being really good at hand to hand combat, for some reason. They just screamed ninja!

Its actually Asbj?rn/Asbj?rn. Esbj?rn is a newer variant, like Espen, Esben, Aspen, etc. As a norwegian I do believe I know this ;)
Asbj?rn/Asbj?rn = ássbj?rn(Norse variant) = Ass = God(s) Bj?rn= Bear.

He is a nord.

Ass = God? Makes sense to me. Yeah I think he is a Nord. With an awesome beard. I think he will look a lot like King Osric from Conan.

I always think of the Esbern as a elf assassin or nord/imperial/redguard knight whom kills our excutionar with a fatal stab.
