escapism

what forms of escapism do you subscribe to and why. hobbies, etc. i don't care what you call it. im interested in a wide variety of input, repetition is not desirable.

what got you into it? why did you stop? what leads you to the next one?

I lurk on the Internet, especially these forums. I don't do that as much now because people don't want me on here, so I just hide in another dark corner of the Internet. Then when I'm bored, I start listening to music while playing Minecraft. I've found a lot of cool bands by doing this; just yesterday I listened to Unitopia for the first time.

Video games, yard work, movies and books.

I do it because I'm either lonely or depressed and it helps distract my mind.

Video games and substances that temporarily alter the working of the mind (like alcohol.) Driving too, but never at the same time as the other two.

Hiking and landscape/macro photography are currently my main hobbies.

They go well together: hiking trails offer unique photographic opportunities while the search for specific subjects and challenges lead me to new and interesting places.

They are very flexible regarding how much time you want to invest and how much you want to socialize: you can get lost in the wilderness all by yourself, or just you and a dog and your camera, or you can group up to dozens of people, it's all about the mood and the level of escapism required. Luckily I share both hobbies with my wife so most of our adventures happen as a couple, same goes with pics critique and suggestions.

They also balance each other quite nicely from a financial perspective, photography gear and consumables tend to be quite expensive while hiking gear is pretty solid and lasts me a few good years (except when we travel abroad we always gear up).

In all honesty I have never quit a hobby. They just go up and down the importance ladder, but all of my childhood hobbies are still with me, from stamp collecting to attending rock gigs to playing video games or playing the piano. It's just the damn time that flies so fast when I'm having fun...

I live in a house with 20 other guys, there is no escape.

At my house though it was usually video games, model planes, or internet.

Video Games, Movies and Books mainly. I've loved books for as long as I can remember and I think all these three things have in common that they let you go somewhere else, To another fictional world, they all thell a story, Games can also kinda let you live another life if you want to. I've been into video games for as long as I've had a computer in the house. It's entertainment nice and simple.

I also like to go on hikes, not sure if I escape reality because I always end up pondering it, but it's a nice change of scenery and a good way to stay in shape.

I also enjoy occational other activities, such as Warhammer, Magic: the Gathering and building models of stuff (got a viking ship kit I'm currently working on). But these hobbies aren't on a regular basis as I don't always have people to play with, or the money to get the supplies I need. (running low on paint and glue at the moment, just as an example).

Games, reading, woodworking, leathercrafting, and S&M.

I also like studying sports philosophy, I would like to get into coaching. I'm just not sure what sport I want to get into, but I'm leaning towards football since it's my greatest interest nowadays, it's widely popular. Second to that would be baseball since it's the first sport I ever played.

I do enjoy the mind-altering substances as well, like alcohol, but only as a supplement to something else. For example: a good cigar, a glass of scotch, a calming sunset are all great supplements to a good book.

I go walking in the hills, the fresh air and views make me feel much better than sitting down on the internet.

Of course I do that as well....

I take my motorcycle out and drive to nowhere. Don't care where I end up tbh, though, the last time I did that I ended up in Maine.

I play video games, watch tv, go for walks, and smoke (e-cigs, now). On rare occasions I might invest in a good scotch. I do these mostly because I enjoy them and they help me relax.

Video games(there's a reason why, unlike many people, I prefer my version of Skyrim more light-hearted!), Walking the dogs while hearing Oblivion's sound track, reading, playing D&D, sleeping...

A blanket term that is recognizable and somethign I really can't do myself. Rigging and shibari are two artforms I love to work with, and with those alone very few, if any, would understand what they are.

Again to each their own.

Video games on easy difficulty so I can place myself in a blank state of mind. Tai Chi helps a lot too.

I do that sometimes, I just get the feeling that I would like tromp all over things sometimes and doing this certainly works. Other things I do is movies, or put headphones on lie back and cut the world / reality out.

Elder Scrolls games are the best for escaping.

Some TV shows do the trick pretty well. I was just watching the show Fringe and almost forgot that I existed. Booo real life
