ESM --> ESP --> ESM

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:45 am

Good afternoon!

I'm trying to fix some dialogue bugs in an ESM (mod, not gamesas), and while I can see the entries in EE, I'm not confident I can fix it there. SO, I need to turn the ESM back into an ESP so TESCS can open/edit it, make the changes, and then re-port it to an ESM. I know I can complete the process, but the big uncertainty I have is will the mod still be functional after all this (barring any bad edits on my part). If memory serves, ESMs lose object/reference information (I can't remember the details), which I would think would break it AS an ESP, but since it's ultimately to be turned BACK into an ESM, that shouldn't matter?

Any thoughts, suggestions, or references are appreciated.

Couldn't you just edit your TES CS ini to enable the setting to edit/save as an esm?

I did this with MCA, because I had to convert it (different languages) and it worked.

It works fine. Use TESDTK, it's what I use on a regular basis for Tamriel Rebuilt.

This.
TESDTK has always worked great for me.
I think Wrye Mash can also convert ESM <--> ESP but I've never used it for that.

Thank you for the encouraging replies. After converting the file and poking around for a bit, using both EE and TESCS, I finally determined that the error was load-order based, and fixed it there. But without being able to tease the problem apart the way I did, it might have just driven me crazy instead of being neatly resolved.
