ESM Files

Post » Mon Oct 25, 2010 9:59 am

I've looked ALL over the internet on how to open an esm file to take out the meshes/etcetc but I can't find anything. Does anyone know how or is it even possible?

What do you mean "take out" ?
Are you trying to delete objects, uninstall the mod, use resources, or simply extract some files that the esm uses?

If you want to alter the esm itself, you have to change it into an esp first. Many tools can do that, like Wrye Mash or TESDTK.

All the files in Morrowind.ESM are found inside TES CS CD, Bloodmoon files are found in Bloodmoon CD and Tribunal files are found within Tribunal CD. :)
If you need further help, kick a PM, I will be happy to help.

I'm not trying to get the files from the morrowind/bloodmoon/tribunal games, I'm trying to get them out of a mod.

What esm files are we talking about?

If any esm you're trying to extract meshes from you have to do what Pluto just said.
The easiest way to use Wrye Mash is to use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106095-wrye-mash-stand-alone/page__view__findpost__p__16256008 instead of the original Wrye Mash.

If the files are in a BSA archive, you will need to extract them, there is a program for that, if the mod has no BSA, then open the mod with CS, find the object in the list, double click it, and there you wil see the destination of the object. If there is shown x/myobject.nif, then the fil will be in Data files/Meshes/X folder. If you need, the textures could be in Data Files/textures/X folder. Hope it helps.

Have you install the mod properly?

If yes, all you have to do is load up esp in the CS and there you could extract whatever you want, but remember not save any changes for that mod.

If no, you need a tool called http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=376 to extract the meshes.
