.esm files wont even show up in the load menu?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:49 am

Hey guys my names Mark, and this is my second post in 2 days!!

I just downloaded the G.E.C.K and fixed all of the problems with it starting up, but when I went to load, no .esm files even showed up. I mean WTH!! Does my computer hate me or something. I installed in once in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3 , but that didn't work! I then tried installing it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data , but its the same story...no luck. ANY help or advice would be so great. I love fallout 3, but its so fustrating when something so simple wont work... :brokencomputer:

(x86) has a bad history of making things like this happen, i have Oblivion isntalled into that driver, but my .esp files are in a hidden folder seperate from the rest of the data, try removing Fallout 3 from (x86) and making a Games folder in ( C:) and place F03 and the G.E.C.K. there, make sure the G.E.C.K. and all of its files are with the Fallout 3 Application.

do i really have to uninstall and reinstall the game or could i create a folder and just transfer the content from C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3 to my new folder?

hey i tried it literally like 20 seconds ago and it immediatley started having problems like...blahblahblah file can't be found or something..directory cannot be located. I simply put all the files back where they originally were and that got rid of all of the errors. But im still having thta same problem....no esm files show up.

Okay then you'll need to uninstall and re-install what happened was that it was seeking that Directory for the files. (i had to do this myself when i first got Fallout 3.) for future notes, don't install games into the (x86) program files location.

You'll need do the following

Create a folder Title: Games/Fallout 3 whatever.

Install it directly into this folder and install the G.E.C.K. Directly into the folder which has the Fallout 3 Application File. hope this helps.

If you have Vista or Windows7, AND you installed your game in the default directory, then you will never see the mod in the data folder.

The GECK is NOT part of the game so the OS sees it as a virus or trojan program trying to change FO3 game files. This is not allowed by the OS.

Solution? Pick "one" of these:

1. Install your game to your Root C: drive. Like C:\Games\Fallout3\ or another drive entirely if you have one.
2. Remove the security from your OS and then you can join the XP computer ranks and become a Zombie computer. *Not recommended.
3. In your \Fallout3\Data\ folder, look at the top right. There should be a button called 'Compatibility Files'. Click that to find your mod. You can then copy it from there to your Data folder.
4. Run the GECK in Administrator mode. Right-click on the icon and select, Run as Administrator.

===============

Now, if you want to install the Fallout3 game somewhere else per #1 above without loosing your current mods you have installed, you can do this:

1. Move your existing \Program Files\Fallout3\ to your C root drive in a new folder that you need to create called C:\Games\ It should look like this after the move: C:\Games\Fallout3\
2. Rename the folder you just moved in step 1 to C:\Games\Fallout003\
3. Uninstall the game. Check the option to keep your save game files. This will clear the registry and not remove any game folders because you moved them somewhere else.
3. Re-install the game to C:\Games\Fallout3\
4. After the reinstall is done, DELETE the just installed folder at C:\Games\Fallout3\
5. Rename the folder from step 2 above to C:\Games\Fallout3\

If done right, this will change the Registry to the new game folders location, plus keep everything you currently have in the protected folder location.

WARNING: If you are not computer saavy, then find someone who is to do the above for you. Or ask more questions.
