ESO being P2P is self defeating

I honestly think there is something arrogant about ZeniMax's deiciosn to charge a whopping $15 dollars a month subscription fee for ESO.
Did anyone realized what happen to Star Wars the Old Republic? which began life as a purchase-plus-subscription game but soon changed to free to play! The game has no more than a few hundred thousands paying players and according to John Riccitiello the CEO, 40% of the quitting players just didn't want to pay $15 dollars a month!
The Old Republic's subscriction plan did not fail because the game was bad, or because nobody was intrested in playing an MMO in the Star Wars universe, it failed because people did not want to pay $15 dollars a month charge.

This is not to suggest that The Elder Scrolls Online ought to follow the Old Republic model. it is merely to illustrate that even a well loved franchise has its work cut out if it wants to persuade people to pay $15 a month.

None of this takes away the fact that $15 for a subscription, in 2013, is a lot of money. Many entertainment companies, such as movie providers and console manufacturers, are making use of subscription models, but very few of them are willing to break the $10 a-month mark. PlayStation Plus's upcoming month-to-month plan will cost $9.99, and the service offers an array of discounts and free games. Netflix costs $7.99 a month.

Not only are people upset about the $15 subscription, but think about the console market. All those on their PS4’s and Xbox One’s will have to pay two monthly subscriptions to play. This has to be the greatest game ever to be made in order to pull of a subscription model. Honestly, I’m surprised they didn’t mirror GW2’s pricing model.

$15 dollars a month is a huge risk if you ask me! I have no problem paying for it but others may! Even World of Warcraft developers are talking about making WoW a free to play game to compete with the numbers of F2P MMORPGs.

Payment model topics are off-limits for now until new information is released.

And the reason SWTOR blew up is because of lack of endgame content, not because of its payment model. If there's enough content in the game to keep people happy for a long time, they are usually willing to pay the monthly sub.

Until there is more official information, there is no point in payment system threads. There were comments about discounts and different payment methods; until they release more information, there isn't much to discuss.
