ESO has no rivals ATM?

Post » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:24 pm

I mean it seems the only rivals they have is Wildstar and Everquest next (Which is free)

The reason I am not including WoW is because WoD won't come out till december 2014.... So a lot of wow players I know are not going to sit around for 9 months of no content just to pay $50 when the content finally comes out.

tl;dr: It seems that ESO is going to be released in a great time period.

That is if you consider Wildstar or EQNext to actually -be- competition. I don't. One is made by the MMO-killer, NCSoft, and the other is just....ick. That art is repulsive to me. I can't stand the way it looks.

Pretty much I honestly am staying away from EA,NCSOFT and NEXON for ever... I don't see why anyone would give any of those companies the time of day, even though I love star wars battlefront, I am going to pass when DICE releases it.

Right know Wildstar is a great game, but not in the league of ESO. Wildstar could become a big game in the future, but there isent even a release date till know.

I'm still subscribed to WoW because of a few friends I roleplay with and the consensus there is that ESO poses no danger to WoW whatsoever.

I would have agreed.... if the new expansion wasn't so many months away. I really don't know how WoW's going to keep its numbers afloat for all these months. WildStar seems to have a pretty decent fanbase as well at this point. Even assuming ESO and WildStar both do not quite succeed as well as intended I'm assured that a large portion of WoW players are at the very least going to try one or both out in which case WoW's going to suffer either way. Not because ESO and WildStar are anything phenomenal but because there is nothing to do in WoW anymore. Even GW2 provides more new content at this time and the main complaint about that game is that it has no end game.

I've also noticed that a large portion of the people I talk to on WoW seem to prefer WildStar for whatever reason. I'm thoroughly confused...

edit: WildStar over ESO

That and the fact that EQN isn't about to see the light of day anytime soon as Landmark is still only in alpha, and SOE are asking players to pay to test that! It's a shame because EQ was the man and EQ2 was the best at the time, then SOE got greedy and killed it. There's plenty of alternatives to ESO however, its success just depends on whether or not the devs alienate the Elder Scrolls fan bois. If they don't then the game will succeed irrespective of whether WoW players jump ship. Personally I hope they stay in Azeroth as the forums here then will be a far less whiney place.

Well I've seen these posts many times but I would rather wait until ESO has been out a month and if I'm still playing come by billing date then I'll have a better understanding.

If it svcks then no one will continue to play except a few. If that happens then I'll try wildstar and I'm certainly going to give Next a go.

I'm completely sure though that it will do incredible well.

Some I would consider are Wildstar, The Division and Star Citizen. The last two I mention from some things I have been hearing could be quite far from release. Wildstar graphics will probably turn a lot of people off, but it does have some interesting features like Scientist and Engineer classes, which I think sounds pretty cool. Then EQ Next, hmm, the Lardmark version seems interesting. But really for what ESO is, it's very different from all of those games, so will attract a different player base. I think it's gonna be very successful.

I mean, it doesn't really have competition at all. The only other game I'm looking at is Star Citizen, and that's a ways away, a different genre, and buy to play.

Those are not rivals, Wildstar is WoW 2.0 and Everquest next is made by people that do not have a clue and only want to offer some "cool" aspects to an MMO, and those aspects will be so fun for a while but after 30 days its AoC all over again.

ESO is the only game that has substance enuff after lvl 50, in my opinion when one reaches lvl 50, he is like 10% done, lol... ( been following twitch channels that stream PTS server content and i must say its <3 <3 <3 ).

SIDENOTE : Wildstar resembles too much about WoW, and thus when WoW launches their next addon and content patch, Wildstar as an MMO, will be devastated, and they know it.

The only games that will touch ESO in the MMO market this year will be EQN, WildStar and the latest WoW expansion. To be honest though, I see WildStar taking more players from WoW than ESO; as they share a very similar look and feel.

Destiny and Star Citizen look promising, but I doubt we'll be seeing those anytime soon.

Wildstar is trying to out WoW, and shows no promise of future content, not to mention if you are MMORPG fan and you honestly are going to play a game by NCSOFT you obviously don't learn your lesson by what the 7 or 9 MMO's they have killed/shut down the servers.

ESO has many empty places and things missing like Thieves guild, Dark brotherhood, Housing, and Arenas(there are AI with Arena names), so we know we are getting more content defiantly.

QFT. My list includes Blizzard - they have become evil recently, at least in my opinion (an opinion not shared by many).

As for a WoW-killer? They are different types of games. It's like saying that Arma is a COD killer - completely different types of games within the same genre for different markets. It's no surprise the WoW players don't see ESO as a threat because WoW is their style. It's fine that both ESO and WoW can be great games; WoW is definitely not my style so I'll play ESO.

See.....ESO does not have to BEAT WoW. All it has to do is get NEXT to it. Take it's place right alongside. I think it has that potential.

I have no idea why WoW players would pay $15 for 12-15 months of no content....

PvE players need constant content or they leave simple as that and SoO has been completed by pretty much everyone...

I'm going to be a pirate. A merciless, dirty, rotten, thieving, treacherous, traitorous, manipulative pirate. I'm considering robbing my friends on the first day. If it were possible, I would sell them into slavery for more money afterwards.

I thought DB was going to be in since launch. Well... in any case I'd like to see if DB / Thieves guild quests are going to be better than what WoW rogue class quests offered at the time. Since ESO's going to be nearly a decade older they should logically be capable of providing us with fairly unique experience.

I'm quite disappointed with Blizzard myself as of late.... they're offering a service to get your character to max level for 60 bucks now and they've been sticking that cash shop icon everywhere too.

By the way, Darmonic, I love your avatar. Where'd you get it?

I agree. They're targeting different sides of the MMO market; there's a bit of cross-over, but for the most part there are the people who want the highly stylised, painterly look of games like WoW, WildStar and EQN, and then there are those that want as close to visual realism as possible. I'm not saying ESO is super realistic, but it does lend itself to realism far more than most MMO titles, and doesn't have much competition for that market.

I disagree. I'm a PvE player, and I paid sub fees for City of Heroes even when no content was released, because what the game already had was fun to play. Regardless of how many times I'd seen it. THAT is the key to content. Make it fun to do, and you'll have the masses eating out of your hand.

Edit:

It has NO competition in the art and graphics department. Neverwinter? Pfah. Star Trek Online? Ick. The Secret World? Newp. WoW? You're joking, right? Defiance? .........not even after the graphics slider they introduced. Rift? Pretty environments, but godawful character and NPC models, which is the problem that TSW has. The only graphical problem that I find with ESO is the fact that some of the armor parts look flat and painted on....which is why I support cosmetic modding. Don't waste dev time with that, let the people that have already done that kind of work provide that content.

I got my Avatar from Tumblr, it is Katarina aka Katawina spina to wina from League of legends.

I am still hyped, I thought it would be a lot of trouble to get my friends from WoW to come to ESO, but since they understand there is nothing to do but kill garrosh for months they decided to come along :3

Also I think it is hilarious that blizzard is promoting WoW players to play Hearthstone to get a WoW mount Hearthsteed.

Honestly I have played HS and it is a obvious cash drop,RNG to get good cards with real money... not going to lie... I fell for it..

What, really? I didn't even know they give you a mount for playing HS. I haven't even tried the game. It would have been great if HS was introduced as a minigame in WoW itself... you know, how Final Fantasy games used to have that trading card game? At least in FF8, pretty much the only FF I played.

WoW classes are fun to play but the content at this point is nearly non-existent. I'm a fairly casual player and I've managed to get legendary cloaks for 3 characters at this point just by doing LFR once or twice a week. I've also managed to do a little bit of heroic raiding but I couldn't really handle it anymore - the game was just too boring.

So for months you kill Garrosh and his goons(normal mode) only to kill him again with better gear over and over again. How hasn't that gotten old yet? The only way I could imagine myself doing this is if one of my previous guilds did not disband because they were so much fun to talk with over skype I bet I could play any crappy mmo with them.

As for other content WoW provides, I don't know... I got sick of Timeless Isle after spending the first 2 hours there. It doesn't look any different from the jade forest in terms of design nor does it really provide anything fun. It felt more like a 'test isle' because it would be fun to have those 'rare' bosses loose in the open world in the future but the isle itself svcks.

I suppose the closest to ESO graphics would be GW2, though I'm not a fan of their static environments.

In all honesty, wildstar will be more commercially successful than ESO after it launches. Not because its a better game. But its just have relatively newer features which havent been done in an MMO before, a better combat system, but most importantly it will appeal to a far bigger audience over time than ESO mainly because of a lot more PVE content and more casual friendly features . PVEers form a much larger base of current MMOers than pvpers or RPers. Elder scrolls online is an RPer's dream but i dont see adventure zones to be enough to occupy pvers over the long run based on what we have heard about them. I know a lot of people who here might disagree with me , and i may get condemned for my views but the question i have is , if ESO wasnt an elder scrolls game and was based on some other franchise, would it still be deserving as much hype? I am not bashing ESO, i think it will sell well, just that wildstar will do better based on my experience with both betas and general consensus on their respective closed beta forms.
