ESO Launcher keeps deleting and redownloading

Post » Mon Mar 17, 2014 2:04 pm

I downloaded ESO on Friday, and upon trying to play it Saturday, the launcher decided to redownload the whole ~26GB again. I deleted the game and reinstalled incase the launcher was corrupted. After this had completed, I played ESO once, and then upon launching it today, it again decided to redownload the whole 26GB. The launcher seems very badly written, the progress bar is completely inaccurate since it claims its at 10% when there's only a few gigabytes left to go. Surely at this late stage, these kinds of bugs should be fixed? I have given up now, since by the time another 26GB downloads the beta will be over. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this for next time?

Thanks.

I'd also like to know a possible fix. All the files are there in the folder but the downloader decides to reinstall.

When the game has completed downloading and installed it's a good idea to copy and paste that folder to have one as a back up. Then what I did is go into the client folder and right click on eso.exe and click send shortcut to desktop, then use that to skip the launcher/updater. This will work as long as everything is installed and updated.

Before the Fridays Beta I had US from last beta and it was giving me some errors so

Deleted both folders, EU and US and left only Launcher folder there - it reloaded the hole thing and all was fine, would have been amazing beta if I would not have been down with fewer and flu.. :(

I hope the released EU version won't be such a nightmare..

It seemed like the eso folder was deleted by the laucher unintendedly ,a test interface of the launcher was set in german even if the game was set to english, news was never shown,

run/update button at times didn't do anything..

I hope they will inform us on updates to the EU launcher or I wouldn't be confident in picking the EU version.
All people seemed to have these issues with the Eu version launcher

Not all people had this issue, I updated to the EU server once and no problems after that, maybe I was lucky.

Interesting so you basically just had the game files from previous beta and updated?

I always do fresh installs from scratch each beta.
Also tried to switch to US version by chaging the Launcher to US and renaming the ESO file.
the button changed to update but go error message then,as well as the repair option.
It seemed like the 2 versions US and EU are not compatible as far as the files are concerned

So does anyone know if there is an official response to the issues during beta with the launcher trying to run the EU client?

I didn't get to play yesterday (Sunday) due to other commitments but I found it annoying to say the least to have to patch before beta began and to have it all deleted the second you double click the desktop icon to launch the launcher. In the end I did what most others did and re-downloaded the whole thing (including the launcher - from my account page) and install...took several hours. Deleting the desktop icon and creating a new one from the install directory (eso.exe) and completely bypassing the launcher. This has to be a priority for ZOS to fix before launch, surely?!? At this rate, we're going to have to download the whole thing again prior to Early Access and if so people will be angry that they're spending good time that they could be playing downloading and installing at a snail's pace...AGAIN!

Felt like I was beta testing the launcher for most of this beta but at least they know there are issues I suppose. Better now than later if you know what I mean.
