ESO: My Review (76100)

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 9:16 am

Ofc they are allowed, nobody is physically forcing anyone to not criticise. Ofc people are allowed to have an opinion, but I guess I'm looking for rational valid arguments for said opinion rather than just a rant of fan-boy-ism not open for discussion or critique.

Edit: What I'm saying is that the 'tu quoque fallacy' has no place in an argument.

The only thing I agree with out of the negatives you've pointed out is that it would be useful to have subtitles, with all the other noise around it is hard to concentrate on the dialogue.

While I agree with certain aspects of the ' preview ' I disagree with some of the major 'negatives'.

Also, dunno why everybody is getting so defensive. It's a few paragraphs from a random person on the internet. Take the opinion for what it's worth - a grain of salt.

Why is everyone saying that the game is too linear and doesn't have enough sandbox elements?

In my experience within the Beta (I made it to lvl 11), the game was plenty open compared to other MMO's (GW2/SWTOR comes to mind) but it obviously cannot be as open as a SP ES game or a survival game like Rust for that matter.

I was still able to land on the main starting noobie area and explore at my own will and discover caves/shipwrecks/points of interest etc. I never really felt like I HAD to do a quest unless I of course wanted to get off that island.

Which BTW, that was a brilliant way IMO to tie everything together...you cant just swim your way to the next area you had to get some things going before you had a ticket off of it. Very involving.

I personally hated the open-ended feel of Oblivion and Skyrim...I loved it in Morrowind but the other two was just too much. I was quick to feel bored and utterly alone in those two worlds.

ESO I feel is a nice compromise between still being open but not so much that it bores the piss out of those of us who don't like to wonder around aimlessly without direction.

I think a good bunch of people need to be smacked behind the head...

I thought this was a good preview/review (w/e). I agreed with litteraly all the points mentionned allthough on some of them I felt differently. It IS true that there are for the first time since Morrowind (at least, didnt play Daggerfall so I wouldnt know), invisible walls and landscape templates placed in a way to prevent you from freely exploring w/e the fk you want. This personnaly doesn't bother me that much as you can still explore quite a lot, but anyone saying the contrary (that there is no invisible wall, that you can go where you want when you want) is just trolling.

And this goes for pretty much the whole OP.

I think my mark wouldve been similar, there are some things that bother me more, some less, my main beef is with the questing and the starter islands, and 76/100 is NOT A BAD SCORE. I wouldnt even rate Morrowind over 90 and its one of my favourite games of all time. Just saying but if you can't accept flaws in a game, you will end up hating it, while people who do recognize flaws will learn to love it just the same.

So all you "anti-haters" had better wisen up because once the game ships chances are you'll be the first to complain and rage.

*wink*

It was just a response due to seems like most times when someone posts an opinion and they get called on it, they play victim and cry foul. If that wasn't intended then cool, but it just gets tiring some times when just because you're not negative about the game you get called fan boy or w/e else bs.

I appreciate your response. The funny thing is, a lot of people said they disagreed with most of my preview, but a lot of the things I mentioned were objective...lol

I disagree with most of your opinions on the beta.

"Skyrim for example was the worst UI I had seen in a game since Oblivion or Morrowind!"

Seriously? Skyrim UI was near perfect, and it was easy to navigate and use and didn't get in the way of the gorgeous visuals.

"Now, I actually like the action combat in Elder Scrolls Online. The only thing I wish to see is more weight to the combat. There is no feeling of impact, no damage numbers or anything like a visual effect, showing you what you did."

So you need damage numbers to show you "the weight" of combat; yet literally knocking someone off their feet and flat on their backs didn't do anything for you? How about smashing someone with a mace and watching them fly in the direction of the blow? not to mention the top quality sound effects. Compare this to any other MMO and it blows them away - it feels as good as it can be without a physics system.

As for the animations, they're better overall to any other TES game, except they do need to improve the walking and sprinting animations - oddly running animations felt right. Combat animations are much better than Skyrim - duel-wielding in ESO is just so good; and I also like the fine detail face animations, and the more living feeling to beast races and them not feeling so stiff.
